The toothbrush moustache is a moustache style, shaved at the edges, except for three to five centimetres above the centre of the lip. The sides of the moustache are vertical rather than tapered. This style of moustache was most famously used by Adolf Hitler, but other people who have used it include Charlie Chaplin and Oliver Hardy. It was very popular during the early part of the 20th Century but rapidly fell out of favour after 1945 because of its strong association with the Nazi dictator. In China, a version of this moustache is viewed as a stereotype of Japanese people, especially of Japanese soldiers in World War II.
