Caitlyn Seamster was hired as the head coach of the Scranton softball program on Aug. 30, 2021. She enters her fourth season at the helm of the Royals in 2025.
The Royals tallied 21 wins in 2024 and senior Sarah Stepnowski put together a record-setting campaign as she broke the single-season program record for triples with nine as well as the career and Landmark Conference all-time record with 20.
2023 saw Scranton post 15 victories en route to another Landmark Conference postseason appearance.
In 2022, the Royals posted a 24-12 mark in Seamster's first season and earned the No. 3 seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament. Seamster coached five players that earned All-Landmark Conference honors including a pair of first team selections in sophomore Sarah Stepnowski and graduate student Jennifer Sweeney.
Seamster came to Scranton from Rutgers-Newark, where for the last two seasons, she navigated the Raiders through both the challenging New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and the COVID-19 pandemic.
In her first full season as a head coach in 2021, Seamster led Rutgers-Newark to the NJAC Playoffs, and helped first baseman/right-handed pitcher Jackie Lara earn All-NJAC Second Team honors at the end of the campaign.
Seamster joined Rutgers-Newark from fellow Landmark Conference member Susquehanna, where she served as an assistant coach for the River Hawks from 2018 through 2020.
While on staff, Seamster helped Susquehanna reach the Landmark Conference playoffs in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, the River Hawks earned the number two seed in the conference playoffs and reached the Landmark championship game. In her two seasons in Selinsgrove, Seamster assisted in all aspects of the program, helping the team post a 47-33 (.587) mark.
Seamster's first coaching stop came at St. Lawrence (N.Y.) from 2016 through 2018 as an assistant, where she went on to earn a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership.
While on the Saints' coaching staff, she helped the team put together an historic 2017 campaign in which they finished 22-11 to tie the program record for most wins in a season. The Saints also broke a program record for most runs during the year, as well (206).
Seamster joined the coaching ranks from a successful playing career at the College of New Jersey, where she played softball for three seasons (2009-2011) on her way to earning a Bachelor's Degree from the school in 2012 in Women & Gender Studies with a minor in Sociology. In the 2012 season, Seamster served as a student coach while finishing up her degree.
On the field, Seamster was a part of a successful TCNJ program that went 85-42 (.669) in three seasons, including a banner 2010 season in which the Lions went 33-10 and qualified for an NCAA Regional. Seamster started every game during the 2010 campaign, and played in 34 contests in her senior season (starting 32 times).
