🥳 Earlier this week, the final conference of the CORALIS EU project took place in Brussels, bringing together partners, experts and stakeholders to reflect on 4.5 years of innovation, collaboration and progress in industrial symbiosis! 🚀This event wasn’t just about celebrating achievements—it was about looking ahead! From successful demo-site implementations to key insights on business models, regulatory frameworks, and data sharing, the discussions reinforced the need for systemic change in Europe’s energy and industrial transitions. 👥 The panel discussion, featuring representatives from the European Commission, RISERS Project, CEN and CENELEC, IMA-Europe (Industrial Minerals Association - Europe), A.SPIRE and Cefic sparked meaningful exchanges on best practices and future opportunities. 💡 Some key takeaways: ✅ Regulatory complexity remains a challenge, with lengthy authorization processes and unclear CO₂ utilization guidelines slowing IS adoption. ✅ Data sharing is a fundamental issue - companies must build trust to collaborate effectively. ✅ Facilitators play a crucial role in bridging the gap between theory and action, ensuring IS initiatives move forward. ✅ Structured training programs for students and public servants are essential to mainstreaming IS. As CORALIS reaches its conclusion, one thing is clear: industrial symbiosis is not just a concept—it’s a practical, impactful model that can drive Europe’s sustainable transition. 🌱♻️

🔬 Final Reflections on the CORALIS EU project 🤝 On March 18-19, 2025, the CORALIS EU project consortium gathered in Brussels for its final General Assembly and Closing Event—marking the conclusion of 4.5 years of collaboration dedicated to advancing industrial symbiosis 👏 These two days provided a valuable opportunity for partners to exchange learnings, share educational materials, and present key policy recommendations to help shape the future of industrial symbiosis in Europe ✍ 🏭 Key Insights from Demonstration and Follower Sites: 1️⃣ The advanced demo sites in #Frövi (#Sweden), #Brescia (#Italy), and #Escombreras (#Spain) showed that even in well-established projects, industrial symbiosis adoption remains a gradual process, requiring time to reach its full potential✅ 2️⃣ The follower projects in #Linz (#Austria), #Basauri (#Spain), and #Ismit (#Turkey) highlighted the importance of technological advancements, socio-economic analysis, and overcoming regulatory challenges to accelerate progress. A stronger exchange of knowledge is key to identifying bottlenecks and deploying solutions faster✅ 💡 Takeaways from the Final #Roundtable Discussion: ✅ Faster deployment of industrial symbiosis solutions can enhance circularity, strengthen cross-sector collaboration, and reduce carbon footprints. ✅ Collaboration amplifies impact—the broader the cooperation, the greater the results. ✅ No single IS solution is universally replicable—tailoring to local conditions ensures better outcomes. ✅ Regulatory challenges require technical solutions to unlock progress. ✅ Industrial symbiosis is a driver of change—but it is people who make it happen. ✅ Site managers play a key role and must think beyond traditional approaches.
