Qatar's bid promises commercial returns of up to £800 million (around $1.68 billion) over an 8-year period from 2026 to 2032.  #playbookmiddleeast Qatar has made a surprise bid to host the finals of the new Nations Championship, a new biennial international rugby union competition that will start in 2026. It proposes a three-day "Superbowl of rugby" event, with six playoff matches between the Six Nations and southern hemisphere teams, to be developed with sports marketing agency Pitch International, which has previously sold TV rights for the Six Nations. ❓ How will it work? It will feature 12 teams, split into two conferences of 6 teams each: - 6 teams from the Six Nations Championship (England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, Wales) - 4 teams from the Rugby Championship (South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina) - 2 additional teams likely to be Japan and Fiji. Each team will play 3 home and 3 away matches within their conference during the July and November international windows. At the end of the November window, the top team from each conference will advance to a final match to determine the overall Nations Championship winner. ↓ Prior to the Nations Championship, the major international rugby union competitions were traditionally held in the home countries of the participating teams, such as the Six Nations Championship in Europe and the Rugby Championship in the southern hemisphere. Before this proposed bid from Qatar, there was no precedent for a neutral, third-party country hosting the finals of a major international rugby tournament. A new day for rugby?? Is it me being ultra negative, or is the LTA strategy for Padel a bit thin on the ground? it is 9 pages long. 2 pages are bookends, 1 title page, an overview page, a page of facts. That leaves 4 pages that give an information about the 5 year strategy itself. And what do they say? One objective is to increase courts from 500 courts now to 1000 in 2026. Is that really a stretch given what we in the industry know about the pipeline? Also, how are the LTA proposing they help in achieving this given nearly all investment is coming from private sources? And what else do they say? Invest, grow, engage, diversify, perform, lead. And the tactics? Make padel accessible, welcoming, enjoyable and inspiring. Quite interesting that this is how padel has developed thus far without their help (more of a hinderence) and the opposite of what my experience of the LTA is (inaccessible, unwelcoming, unenjoyable and uninspiring). Is this really as good as the LTA gets? Happy to meet and discuss Tom Murray to see if you can convince me otherwise.

As people eagerly await the results of the FIFA Agent License exam. There are some interesting pathways we have to consider. If it's a yes, do we: - Join an agency? (boutique or blue chip?) - Set up our own agency? - Stick to just brokering deals? - Dive into representation? If it's a no, does this mean: - We give up and stop now? - We can't continue 'working' in the football agency ecosystem? - People will think we are not 'worthy'? - We can't get paid for the services we provide? I was told by a senior agent when I first started out: "You must either have the clubs or have the players. Without one or the other you are never in control of the situation." No matter what path we choose to take, make sure YOU are at the centre of the decision making process. Know your value and watch out for the sharks circling. 🦈

What’s the Biggest Challenge Padel Faces in Becoming a Mainstream Sport ❓ As we all know, Padel is the world’s fastest growing sport and there are no signs of the growth slowing down 📈 To ensure this growth continues, it’s important to tackle any challenges that may arise and not turn a blind eye to them 👀 So What May Stand in Padel’s Way… ❄️ UK Climate (outdoor courts only) - As winter fast approaches, the days are getting shorter, wetter and colder here in Britain. These conditions aren’t favourable among Padel players and it can really affect the player’s experience. How can these outdoor clubs minimise the impact that the weather may have? 📄 Regulations - There is no doubt that procedures and regulations are holding back how quickly courts can be installed here in the UK. For me, if existing clubs can allow case studies to be made of them, it will help other projects get the green light, purely as it will familiarise the local councils who make the decisions. 📺 Mainstream Exposure - Over the last 12 months, it has been great to see the rise of widespread Padel awareness, but it’s still not at the level it should be. I would love to see a Premier Padel tournament here in the UK and it seems the obvious next step for mainstream exposure. AN OUTSTANDING OPTION for a budding CLUB OWNER: A club in a UK pyramid is offering to separate the football side from the facilities side by selling the rights to ownership of the football team at a cost of running team ops.
