  Sanchez did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 8-7 win against the Dodgers, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over 5.2 innings. Teoscar Hernandez did all the damage against Sanchez, homering twice and driving in all four runs the southpaw surrendered. He was otherwise fantastic, tossing 60 of 88 pitches for strikes with 15 whiffs. The 28-year-old owns a 4.09 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB through 11 frames and lines up for a road matchup with the Cardinals next weekend.

  Sanchez came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's win over the Cubs, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out four in 4.2 innings. Sanchez was cruising until Nico Hoerner hit a three-run blast in the fourth inning. Sanchez was pulled with two outs in the fifth after surrendering an RBI single, leaving him one out shy of earning his 12th win. The 27-year-old finishes his regular season with a 3.32 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 153:44 K:BB in 181.2 innings (31 starts), setting career highs in wins, ERA and strikeouts. Although he did not have his best stuff Wednesday, Sanchez could still be in the mix for starts in the playoffs -- the southpaw posted a 1.80 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB in four September starts (25 innings) prior to Wednesday.

Although he issued a career-high five walks, the 27-year-old lefty managed to collect a win thanks to the ability to induce grounders (70 percent groundball rate) in this contest. Out of the three hits Sanchez allowed, the only two extra-base hits -- one homer and one double -- came off the bat of leadoff hitter Jose Iglesias. Sanchez has been punching out batters at a greater clip over his last six starts, producing a 10.1 K/9 over his last 36.2 innings, compared to a 6.9 K/9 across his first 140.1 frames this season. He is slated to make his next outing against the Cubs at home next week.

Sanchez had recorded a decision in 12 straight starts, going 6-6 with a 3.91 ERA over 76 innings in that span. He gave up three of the four runs on his line Thursday on a pair of home runs by Matt Olson, but Philadelphia was able to come from behind for the win. Sanchez hadn't given up multiple homers in any of his first 25 starts this season, though he's now yielded seven long balls over 10 starts since the beginning of July. Sanchez didn't pitch as poorly as his final line would indicate -- the majority of the damage against him came on DJ LeMahieu's grand slam in the second inning. The left-hander would then keep the Yankees off the board for three straight innings. Sanchez allowed a pair of two-out singles in the sixth before he was replaced by Jose Ruiz, who would allow both inherited runners to score. It's the third straight loss for Sanchez, who's struggled to a 6.59 ERA in his last five outings. His ERA is up to 3.36 on the season with a 1.28 WHIP and 98:31 K:BB across 21 starts (120.2 innings). Sanchez is projected for a tough road matchup with the Dodgers early next week.

The 27-year-old has already set a career high with 103.1 big-league innings this season, but he's in no danger of being shut down -- he tossed 149 innings across all levels in 2023. Sanchez will get a breather though, as he isn't scheduled to take the mound again before the All-Star break.

But Sanchez, who has done a great job this year at avoiding the big inning, couldn't escape that trap Thursday, allowing six batters to reach base during a five-run fourth. He then saw his day end prematurely after the first two batters reached base in the fifth. All told, Sanchez, who was coming off a complete-game shutout and had allowed just one earned run over 23 innings during his previous three starts, allowed a season-high seven runs, lifting his season ERA more than half a run from 2.41 to 2.96. He'll look to rebound next week when the Phillies host a showdown series against the Dodgers.
