Watch: 'Bachelor' Alum Sean Lowe Violently Attacked by His Dog

Sean Lowe is on the mend after a harrowing experience with his dog.

The Bachelor alum was hospitalized twice over the course of 12 hours after Moose—a Boxer he adopted almost three months ago—violently attacked him on two separate occasions.

"Our family has been through something pretty traumatic over the weekend," he began in a March 17 Instagram video, as his wife Catherine Giudici sat tearfully beside him. "We're torn up about it."

Sean said the first attack happened on March 13, when he and some friends were barbecuing in the backyard and the smoke alarm inside his house went off. As the 41-year-old went to waft the smoke away with a dish rag, Moose started nipping at his hands and feet "really aggressively."

And when Sean sternly told Moose off, that was when he said a "switch flipped" and the dog "turned into an absolute killer."

"He shows his teeth at me and just attacks me," Sean recounted. "I feel him ripping into the flesh of my arm and, at this point, I’m doing everything I possibly can just to fend this dog off."

Fortunately, his friends were able to corral Moose to the backyard. But by then, according to Sean, he was already "cut so deep" by his dog.

"I just see blood squirting," he recalled. "Thank god that that my friends were there because they were able to rush me to the ER."

Sean ultimately received stitches on "five or six different places" across his arm from the incident—but that was not the end of the ordeal. When he returned home to arrange for his and Catherine's kids Samuel, 7, Isaiah, 6, and Mia, 5, to stay as his parents' place as he dealt with the fallout, Moose attacked for a second time.

"We're getting the kids in the car," Sean remembered, "and I see Moose running out the front door."

The Bachelor Nation star said Moose "made a beeline right at me, and just lunged and started attacking me again."

"He's ripped my arm open," Sean continued. "I'm fighting for my life here. I feel like if this dog gets up, he is going to kill me."

He added, "It took everything I had to control this dog—and I'm 220 pounds. If it were anyone else, he would have killed my children or my wife, but I was able to hold him for 10 minutes until the cops came."

Sean said the second attack "resulted in another trip to the emergency room and more stitches." However, he noted, "I don't blame Moose a bit."

Instagram

"It's clear he experienced a lot of trauma before we got him and had something neurologically wrong with him," Sean shared, explaining how Moose was "just an affectionate, lovable Boxer" before the attacks. "There was something about that smoke alarm that flipped this switch in him."

And while the family is heartbroken over what transpired, Sean is "just super grateful it was me and it was not my kids or my wife." He's currently working with animal control and a no-kill shelter to figure out the best option for Moose since the dog can no longer be kept at their home.

"I have scarred arms for the rest of my life, but I can live with that," Sean continued, noting that Catherine—who he married in 2014 after meeting her on the 17th season of The Bachelor—will sometimes catch him "cringing every once in a while" from trauma. "From a psychological perspective, I think I'll be OK."
