The One Show host Vernon Kay was taken back after actor Richard E. Grant made a 'racy' remark on the BBC chat show.

Richard E. Grant reveals reason he doesn't watch his own films

The One Show's frontman Vernon Kay was taken aback as Richard E. Grant apologised following his 'racy' commentary during the programme.

On the evening edition of The One Show, Friday (4th March), veteran broadcaster Vernon, age 50, along with his colleague Clara Amfo, age 40, welcomed a slew of stars including Richard, who discussed his latest venture in the forthcoming A24 horror comedy flick, Death of a Unicorn.

Yet, no sooner had the interview kicked off, than it veered into unexpected territory after Clara probed the renowned actor about his thoughts on watching his own performances.

Clara queried: "You said you don't like watching yourself back on screen, what is that all about? Watching yourself back?"

In response, Richard divulged his personal aversion to self-review, confessing: "Because you can't fix it. It's like watching yourself kissing someone or being in bed with something. You don't want to see that. You like doing it but you don't want to see that", reports Wales Online.

Recognising the provocative nature of his words, Richard quickly expressed contrition: "Sorry this is a family show." Laughter erupted on set as Clare noted: "It's 20 past seven now on a Friday." Shaking his head, Vernon commented wryly: "It's taken a turn since you've been here Richard, I'll be honest with you."

Richard's new cinematic outing premiered in UK theatres today, with him embodying the role of Odell Leopold, a morally dubious CEO of a big pharma firm.

The film follows Elliot Kintner, a widower and employee of Odell, as he embarks on a journey with his daughter to the estate of a wealthy pharmaceutical CEO. Their trip takes an unexpected turn when they accidentally strike and kill a unicorn, deciding to bring it along to their destination.

Upon arrival, they make a groundbreaking discovery: the unicorn possesses remarkable healing properties, prompting the estate owner to harness its power to create innovative medicines.

In a separate conversation, Richard expressed his admiration for his Saltburn co-star Barry Keoghan, predicting he will excel as Ringo Starr in the forthcoming Beatles biopics. Sony Pictures has announced a series of four films centered around the band members, with Keoghan set to portray the iconic drummer Sir Ringo Starr.

Richard, who collaborated with the 32 year old Irish actor in the 2023 Emerald Fennell thriller, praised Keoghan's unique talent, saying: "He's an extraordinary actor."

He continued: "He's unlike anybody else I've ever, ever worked with before, so completely untrained, instinctive and brilliant. I think he'll be a fantastic Ringo Starr."

The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer
