Monica James does not disappoint with this one ladies and gentlemen. Whew!! This was a dark dark ride but I was hooked from the jump. I need book 2 like yesterday!!
Lennon and Valentina’s connection is instantaneous, and so was my love for Lenny. He is her friend and her protector and will fight anyone….even Valentina herself to keep her safe. These two characters go through it, and you think there is going to be some light at the end of all the trauma when they are adopted. Unfortunately the woman who adopted them has different plans.
This is my first arc and my first review period so hopefully I gave enough to convince someone to read it! -natthewordsmith

I'm as much a prisoner on the outside as I was on the inside. And that's because I'm a prisoner within myself.
Dio mio! What in the world was this book!? My mind was completely and thoroughly blown...and don't get me started on how I felt goose bumps all over my arms, my blood running cold, the unshakeable chills down my spine, and my palms couldn't stop sweating all at once. These were all the symptoms when you read yet another heart-gripping story by the one and only Monica James.
Honestly, I couldn't believe it when she said this book would be her first dark romance in over a year. Like, how was that even possible? I felt like she just released a Top 10 bestselling dark romance series or something yesterday as this book, guys, was beyond p h e n o m e n a l. The plot design was much more in-depth and character development more on point compared to any of her previous work, which I already loved at that time, so if this wasn't a masterpiece, then I didn't know what was.
She is broken, and I'm afraid that perhaps she is too far gone. So much has happened to her. She has known nothing but hate. And that is why I kissed her because I wanted to replace the memories of her first fill with her first kiss instead. Kiss or kill. Kill or kiss. Both have the ability to destroy one forevermore. I just hope that maybe she'll clutch on to the small shred of light and not be consumed by the darkness eating away at her.
Before you decide to dive into this book, please make sure to check the trigger warnings as this is a DARK romance with serious, not-for-the-fainthearted topics some might find disturbing. What took me by surprise was how Lennon turned out to be the one with a heart despite all the misfortune surrounding him. See, this was the most impressive evidence of how Monica's writing had evolved throughout the years. I really, REALLY admired the complexity in Lennon's personality and how he viewed the f*cked-up world with something more than mere distain or anger. What's more, it touched me deeply when all he wanted to do was to salvage the last bit of humanity in Valentina before she was defeated by her personal demon. Seriously, no one could be more heroic than Lennon.
"Ciao, Aldo." Gianna pales when she too sees the change in Valentina. So this means that whatever Valentina did was of her own accord.
As for Valentina, my heart literally broke for her when she had to face the worst nightmare over and over again. I felt her pain for some reason and that was why I didn't feel remorse at all when she had to do what she had to do to save her soul. Both Lennon and Valentina were seeking answers to their past, and in true Monica James fashion, we were left with even more questions in the end.
Countless lies were told, so much blood was shed, and even more secrets to be revealed...the cliffhanger here was so tantalizing that I had an urge to time travel to May 2025 just for book 2 of this duet. Again, this book was indeed one-of-a-kind and I seriously couldn't RECOMMEND it enough! Go read it!!!

Strap in, because this one was dark, gruesome, and full of unexpected twists and triggers. It was a hard pill to swallow at times, but I couldn’t peel my eyes away. The characters and the storyline kept me unraveling.

Oh my heart—and stomach—ached for little Valentina and all she endured. Utterly horrific. Then Lennon entered her life at just the right moment, becoming her protector despite both of them being orphans trapped in a vile children’s home. Their instant bond seemed written in the stars, but even that couldn’t stand against the woman who adopted them—only to use them as pawns in a brutal war for power between drug lords.
From the moment Gianna stepped onto the page, I knew she couldn’t be trusted. She thrived on pitting Valentina against Lenny for her own twisted pleasure. That woman was pure poison, and she made my skin crawl. I have to admit, I eventually guessed one of the twists about her, but I’m still left with so many questions about her true motives.
Lenny. He was hands down my favorite character. Despite everything he endured, he never let his humanity fully unravel. Even after all the trauma, he still tried to save Valentina. I just hope she isn’t lost forever. That ending was pure adrenaline—heart-pounding chaos that left me wide-eyed. Now, I’m just counting down the days until Monica gives us the next book in this duet. I need it!

So buckle up and strap yourself in real tight for Bad For You because it is going to be a bumpy ride.

Holy Smokes Batman!
What in lawds name was this book?! Because my mind is completely and utterly blown by the insaneness that was Valentina Ricci and Lennon ‘Lenny’ Shepherd story in Bad For You.
Having read author Monica’s other Dark Romance duet and thoroughly enjoyed and loved it. There was no doubt in my mind that Bad For You would be the same, particularly after reading the blurb.
But first just a word of WARNING, when it comes to reading Bad For You, just be ready to strap in and hold on for dear life because this story is not for the faint hearted.
I kid you not the Trigger Warnings are there for a reason, seeing as Monica James took the pedal to the metal, having you blasting off from the get go taking dark, depraved, deviantly wicked and insanely twisted to a whole other level when it came the story she delivered.
Everything in this story delivered on a thoroughly high, in-depth, detailed level that had you devouring each and every page with each page turn.
But then again that was to be expected because the more the narrative developed, the further and deeper the pull reeled you in. Consuming you to the point of falling down the abyss of Valentina and Lennon’s story.
And that was on top of following their journey’s individually through the telling of their dual POVs.
It allowed author Monica to have these characters unravel, showcasing each and every peel of their layers with an in-depth, detailed exploration. More so through their inner monologue that allowed Valentina and Lennon to speak their minds openly to us when it came to their thoughts, feelings, views and opinions.
The unmasking of the two further played into the development of their characters. By exposing all the rawness to the nitty gritty layers that came from the events and situations they faced, endured and had suffered through. Ultimately allowing author Monica to help us go further below the surface of the extensive emotions Valentina and Lennon kept hidden from sight.
There was so much to take in, follow and keep on top of knowing that the journey Valentina and Lennon found themselves trekking upon was an uphill battle with a rocky terrain to accompany it. All the whilst navigating through the many twists and turns that came along, with the occasional explosive surprise bombshells, knocking you right off your feet.
From all the drama that was not only between the two given the state of their relationship and where they stood with their decisions, but coming from secondary characters such as Gianna given her role and how she used it. To the continuous mystery that just kept on building, from all that was alluded to with all the secrets, lies and deceit being at play. Helping to keep the suspense rising along as the story progressed. Which had you double downing even more so and locked on in the anticipation all to come.
Although Valentina and Lennon had a somewhat complicated relationship, considering how it began to where they were going, and the way it ended. The connection they had and shared was instant, as was their bond. Hence why they never once stopped me from rooting for them.

They were truly destined to be together and they knew it too, no matter the denial they may have had at times. Regardless of the twisted and toxic-ness that was them and their relationship. It was fated for them to meet and be together.
Even when Valentina had her moments of me wanting to hit her and then shake her to make her see common sense. Same for Lennon too, but not as much.
There was denying they needed to be endgame, be what each other needed most.
Something that Lennon proved and surprised me with showing that there was more to him than meets the eye, the fact that he was always trying to hold onto his humanity, whilst trying to save Valentina in the process too.
Oh and can’t forget about that ending.
Monica James really did a number with that cliffhanger!
Holy Mother Chucker! It definitely had me speechless, all the while screaming silently in frustration and cursing out for wanting more and it to never end!
Book two could not come fast enough, considering the anticipation she has me in with wanting to read it NOW!!!

Infinity stars! It's been a while since I read a darker romance book that I absolutely love! Monica did a fantastic job with this one, this may have some triggering moments for some, but I personally enjoyed it.
I first started reading I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about reading this book cause oh my but as I continued going Valentina really grew on me, that girl went through some SHH, but you know she never let that stop her from becoming stronger and she had some fight! Now Lennon he really had me hoping and praying that he would continue to protect Valentina, but I also felt the moments where I was also rooting for him to save himself. This book had me in a choke hold just wanting to know what could possibly come next for these two.
Now that cliffhanger ending was just rude because this book was so dangerously good that I wasn't ready for it to end.

I absolutely love Lennon so much!! Valentina is a bad ass but also a little scary lol. Their push and pull is everything!!! I need more! The way Lennon is always looking out for Valentina melts my heart. Infinity stars!!

Monica has written another brilliant story. Her words are like pure magic and create such vivid detail, you feel and see everything. I had goosebumps and sweaty palms while reading this book. The plot and character development was absolute perfection! Lennon and Valentina. 😍

Ladies, Monica James' dark side is back and she had given us an incredible story!!!
Valentina and Lennox had gone through so many things, but their love for one another is something out of this world!!! A beautiful poison!!!
But, they had found theirselves in different sides and their love is doomed!!!
Who will survive at the end when both of them are out for blood???

My heart was aching really badly in the beginning with everything that these two children had to suffer in a place that had to be a sanctuary and not a freakin' torture!!!
And then, they became the 'lucky' ones who had gotten a different life but they had to pay a great cost... Each other!!!
Now they are weapons to a war that wasn't even theirs!!!
And even though they are loving each other with all their mighty, they have to let go of this love and turn it to hatred!!!

I don't know what more to say about this book!!!

WHAT DID I JUST READ!?!?!
MONICA!!! You have outdone yourself!!
Where do I start with this?? First off, this book is not for the faint of heart. So, with that in mind, this is a dark romance so heed the triggers if you need them.
I have read my fair share of dark (and depraved) romances (they are my fave subgenre in romance) but this one far exceeded my expectations for so many reasons.
Monica truly knows how to tell a story that will grab readers right from the start and keep them fully engaged til the end. Her characters are flawed and yet you find yourself empathizing with them at times.
I love that the dark elements in this story aren't just there for the shock factor - it's a part of the storytelling as much as the characters themselves are. But then we add in the romance and the spice and WOW - just another level to this amazing story.
The plot, the character development (Lennon won me over in this one) and the overall vibes of this entire book are perfection. I have always loved Monica's twisted and dark stories but this one is stands above them all.
Bad for You is riddled with horrors, secrets, lies and bloodshed along with some hot scenes that will have you have begging for more after that cliffy. Thankfully we don't have to wait long and even if we did, I would wait for as long as need be to get the conclusion to this amazing duet.

Well Miss Monica James is back !!! Holy smokes this book was everything I love about a dark romance not only a dark romance but one written by Monica James! I don’t even know where to start other than this book was so dark it’s gritty and raw the characters are put through some shit but they can hack it because they are tough I think they were bred and born for this ! Lenny and Valentina are destined to be together there star crossed lovers even though they were raised together they have never seen each other as brother and sister that one scene when they were young and in the orphanage and Lenny stood guard watching Valentina sleep making sure she was safe so she could sleep oh my heart I knew then that he was going to be the ultimate book boyfriend this man’s heart is so pure he feels and he feels deeply especially where Valentina is concerned he still hangs on to his humanity after everything he has been through what he was raised to do he is just so beautiful and omg that ending I screamed and might have thrown my kindle but I threw it on my bed so it wasn’t as satisfying but eh you win some you lose some lol but darn you MJ !!!Ughhh so I’ll be patiently waiting for the next book!

I am floored. This story is definitely not for the feint of heart. It was disturbing yet those parts were needed to bring the story together. It helps build the foundation of the characters and their development. It was savage, raw, and everything I didn’t know I needed. I need book 2 NOW. WELCOME BACK TO THE DARK SIDE, Miss James. It is always a pleasure to walk through the darkness of your mind.

FAR OUT WOMAN!! This book gripped me from the very first chapter! My heart goes out to Valentina, the trauma she has been through absolutely explains what she has turned into!
Also book 2 is needed right now, that ending, my mind is blown, in a good way of course!
And Lenny, beautiful Lenny, I adore him so much.
There are some heavy themes in this story so as always please proceed with caution, but this is a wild ride you don’t want to miss out on.

This book is dark… be prepared! While I saw that ending coming, somehow figured it out, I didn’t know this was a cliffhanger!!!! Great characters and development of Lennon. Amazing to see and waiting on Valentina’s reveal. Definitely recommend

It was a very dark story, didn't expect that I have to say. I my heard bleed, because I know, that this is possible in real life too and not many people enough do something against it. They both were kind of horrible, what they did but also was it horrible what they had to endure. I don't know how to feel about this book, but it was definitely something else. The story was very carnal and bloody. A pretty big thing is, that it ended with a cliffhanger. All in all a pretty brutal story with an open end.

So what happens when you add childhood trauma, assassins, rival drug lords, serial killers, and nuns together?? You get this book.
It has so much going on, but somehow it worked out. I was hooked right away. I’m a sucker for childhood trauma and trauma bonding as kids. This book starts off dark and it pretty much stays in the dark throughout the whole book.
Valentina and Lenny have been through some seriously awful things as children. They had an instant bond. Then enters the villainous Gianna. She saves them but at what cost? What does she really want? I’m not going to spoil it at all.
It ends on a complete cliffhanger and while I hate them, I also love them. I can’t wait for the second book.

My goodness was this truly a dark romance. And I mean dark, dark, DAARRRKKKK! But my gosh was this book just amazing! Was there topics and scenes that were hard to read/get through? Yes but it is needed to get the full story behind Valentina and Lenny.
Valentina’s starts life doom in her blood. With the parents she has everyone already assumes the worst of her. You are just going to break right along with this young lady, and by that I mean the younger her we get to see in the beginning. My heart hurt for her. All she ever wanted was a loving family, just one person to show her how to love and what it felt like to be loved. So I saw it as god’s doing when she just so happens to see Lenny outside in the garden after another night of horrors for her. And let me tell you, right away I fell in love with Lenny. Just from how he was with Valentina from the get go.
Lenny is another poor broken soul, who you can’t help but just feel heart broken for. Though I loved that he was the strong protector from such a young age. He knew there was something about Valentina that he just needed to be around her and make sure she was safe. Then you hear about him looking for his younger brother!
I gotta say the twist and turns, especially the big twist of all at the end, had to be some of the best I have read in a while. It literally left me speechless and my mind blown!! I hate that we are left on a cliffhanger since that means we now have to wait to get more of the story!

Okay I’m going to start off by saying I’ve been waiting for Monica’s next dark romance and Bad For You did not disappoint. This one might be my favorite dark romance of hers to date. If you want a book that checks all the dark romance boxes, draws you Into the story from the start of the prologue, a great plot and spice then pick this bad boy up. There was quite a few jaw dropping moments for me including that cliffy at the end. I will say I love cliffhangers because it just makes me more excited for the next book. As always please check the trigger warnings because Bad For You is dark.
Bad For You follows Valentina whose story broke my heart throughout this book. Valentina is raised in an orphanage and meets Lennon. Lennon is the ultimate alpha male who protects Valentina with everything he has. Both characters have experienced so much trauma from childhood and that trauma shapes their adulthood. There’s secrets and lies throughout having the reader question everything. Monica James knows how to write a bad guy also. When you’re supposed to hate a character she makes sure she delivers. I love Lennon and Valentina and I can not wait to see where Monica takes their characters in the second book.

Holy mother of God.
It's hard for me to really summarize how much I love this new dark romance from James. Although it's hard for me to just place it in the dark romance trope because the suspense and moody mystery here kept me deep in this world even when I wasn't able to read. My mind kept going back to these two and their unique dynamic and upbringing well into my work shifts and pto meetings.
Lenny and Valentina built their bond at a very young age on the backs of everyone who has wronged them. One meeting and the universe tied them together, til death due them part. Unfortunately, the death of one may come at the hands of the other.
We have kittens, fighting, religion, rival drug lords, a gem shop and the bond that ties it all together in one phenomenal novel, so it's hard telling what the rest of this series will turn up with.
I'll be recommending this one for the remainder of my days, but please, make sure that if you need to, you check your trigger warnings before the first page because those triggers will most likely happen within the first few minutes of your read.

I was not prepared. What was this mindf*ck!? This book had me on edge with my heart pounding from beginning to end. I stared into the darkness and let me say it was a wild ride. This story follows Valentina Ricci and Lennon Shepherd, two orphans who find solace in each other and an undeniable connection.
Valentina! My heart broke for her, and there were moments that I was utterly choked up. She went through so much, and there were times when my stomach turned at what she endured. Valentina was so alone and isolated until Lennon.
Lennon was EVERYTHING! The way he became Valentina's protector pulled at my heartstrings. I loved how despite feeling betrayed, he made sacrifices to save Valentina from herself. Lennon was truly heroic, and his selflessness stole my heart.
Bad For You was a gripping dark romance with many twists and turns. The chokehold was oh, so good, but proceed with caution. You've been warned.

Firstly I would to say please check triggers I do say this with anything I read so this is no different
on to the book i started this at nighttime as could not sleep and finished in the morning I could not did not want to put it down.
Monica James you are one amazing author from the writing to the story how it flows how invested i was toe curling edge of your seat page turner.
From page one this book was absolutely amazing woth a big wow factor
Valentina you understand why she is and was what she turned into
Her mother abandoned her her father on death row
This book has trauma,trauma and more trauma but the fmc tries to escape the trauma of her life.

Her dark morbid romance novels are always a must read with this book being no different. I devoured it! I couldn’t stop reading it. Sick and twisted and oh the plot twist! Bad for You by Monica James is straight-up fire! It’s dark, ya know one of those please grab a fan to turn down the heat good ones. Also, grab a pen because it’s got some twists and turns, and I was like, “Wait, is this a lie? No, wait, this is…they’re all liars”. I love Lennon; he’s bad but good, he has a heart but it’s hurt, and it has made him who he is today. Valentina has been beat up and abused so bad I want to wrap her up, but she has been molded into a version of this firecracker you can’t help but root for, too. I lean towards him, but I feel she is in a twister of knowledge and hasn’t landed yet. This is a dark read. For real, read the triggers…like read them. Strap in and get ready, because it’s spicy AF and I freaking loved it all!

Valentina, she's endured more abuse then any human should ever have, and I can't fault her for her actions.
Lenny, I'm so insanely in love with him, strong, broken, and loyal to one, until he's not.
I can't wait to get my hands on book 2, I NEED to know how this is going to go down.

This was my first book I have read from Monica and it won’t be my last! 😍 not because it was left on a cliffhanger… thanks girl 😉 but purely because I loved her writing and amount of detail she puts into painting the scene and the characters!
My heart hurts for Lennon and everything he does for Valentina, the chemistry that these two share throughout the book is 🤤 and I really wish a certain someone would just see that and trust the other 🤭😩

This is a dark novel. There maybe themes that trigger some people. Me, I love it. Two Orphans, Valentina and Lenny, fighting for survival in the orphanage, overcoming the Bullies. Now they have to fight to survive outside I am looking forward to book two. Monica is back writing Dark romance!

This book was like riding a fast twisting roller coaster with no harnesses. There were many micro stories that were involved in this book yet they all connected and intertwined beautifully. It was gruesome, dark and has some incidents which will be upsetting to many.
We meet Valentina and Lennon.
Valentina was doomed from the beginning, as she was born from a taboo relationship with a nun and a prisoner, then abandoned by her mother to the orphanage where she endured teasing and taunting from other children, was seen as less than nothing by the assaults there and also subjected to SA by the priest and other men.
There she meets Lennon, he sticks up for her one day and a friendship and tight bond was created. He was her protector, then and forever. Lennon didn't have the best start either, being both his parents were dead and he was separated from his brother.
Together they were adopted by Gianna and she raised them both to be warriors, fighters, killers. There was something about Gianna from jump that I didn't like especially how she was teaching them to hide their humanity and love for others and started pitting Valentina and Lennon against each other.
As the story progresses we meet several pivotal characters, and are involved in their own stories that as we continue reading, find out they are in fact intertwined with both Lennon and Valentina, and they find themselves questioning everything in their lives.
I loved both these flawed characters so much. Valentina was damaged before she even had a chance to thrive and that has determined her path that she chose yet she cannot let go of one piece of her humanity, Lennon. Lennon is fighting so hard to keep his humanity and not turn into the heartless person Gianna has trained them to be. His heart is pure and he refuses to let it be hardened further.
For a darker themed novel, Monica did exceptionally well to capture both the dark side yet allow a little bot of happiness and sunshine to seep in to her writing. The character development and arcs was explored so well. You fell in love with the two main characters easily so much so that when trouble came and conflict arose you didn't want to choose sides as it was too hard as all you wanted was them to be happy.
The actual story was up-down-happy-sad-shocking and the last couple of chapters had me feeling all the feels then the revelation at then end was MIND BLOWING!!! I wait eagerly for Book 2 and trust me it cant come quick enough.
