Hush Note #3

Muses & Melodies

Rate this book
If I can keep Hush Note’s leading guitarist, Nixon Winters, on the straight and narrow for the next six months, I’ll finally get my own band to manage—assuming we don’t kill each other first.

The egotistical, irritating rock star is fresh out of rehab, but it’s obvious his demons followed him home—and now I’m sleeping down the hall. I’ve watched him self-destruct every summer, and with album deadlines and tour dates looming, I can’t let it happen again. My career is in his hands.

But tattoos can’t cover every scar, and I’m starting to see through his trademark, irresistible charm to the damage beneath.

Everyone wants the rock star.
I’m falling for the man.

If he doesn’t let me in,
he’ll never break the cycle—
And when these six months are up,
I might be the one left broken.

I've been waiting for Nixon's book to come to audio for quite some time, so when I saw the audiobook was released, I got to it right away. I enjoyed this one so much. Nixon and Zoe were amazing and I loved them together. I love emotional romances that give me the feels and this one did just that. Learning of Nixon's past was heartbreaking, but watching him learn to trust and let Zoe in (even if it did take a while) was beautiful. She was exactly the woman he needed. This one was well worth the wait- I enjoyed it so much!

...he kissed like he played guitar—like nothing else mattered on the planet, and in that moment, nothing else did. He wiped away the rest of the world and altered the universe so it centered around.

An emotional and highly poignant story to end a fantastic series with. Muses & Melodies really closes it out with an emotional bang. Nix's story was everything I had hoped for and so much more.
I wanted the only woman on the planet I couldn’t have.

The lead guitarist of Hush Notes has been spiraling for years. In and out of rehab, Nix's favorite brand of self medication is sex, drugs and alcohol. You know that there's something dark in his past that not even his closest friends know, but it's not until the layers begin to be peeled back that you realize the full impact of his hidden pain.

Zoe is eager to make a name for herself in the music industry. But where Nix is center stage, she likes to be the talent behind the screen. She loves music and she loves the industry. And now her big break relies on her ability to keep Nix out of trouble. Babysitting a rockstar isn't quite what she had in mind, but she'll do it. It's not just about the job for Zoe. She truly cares for Nix, which truly makes their journey to each other that much more potent.

Zoe has always been in the background of Nix's world but now their forced proximity is making him deal with an attraction he didn't even realize was there. The sparks between these two were so deliciously hot. But it was so much more than chemistry. I loved how Zoe gives as good as she gets, and a defensive Nix gives quite a bit. Zoe is always there for him no matter how angry he gets or how he lashes out. But you can see the pain he hides beneath that rockstar exterior and that just makes him that much more endearing no matter how broken he is.

This was a story that was full of passion and emotion. There was so much feeling packed in that just made me that more invested in this. A perfect romance to end the series with.

The Hush Note series comes to an end with its lead guitarist’s love story and this emotional, slow burn romance was the happy ending Nixon very much deserved! This rock-star multi-authored series consumed me this past few weeks and I am so glad I decided to give these books a go. I have read from the previous two authors before but this is actually my first book by Rebecca Yarros and I have to say I am very impressed and I definitely want more. I wish we had a bit more time with Hush Note’s crew because I will sure miss them!

Muses & Melodies is the third and final installment in the Hush Note’s series and it is the love story between Nixon Winters (the fresh out of rehab lead guitarist) and Zoe Shannon (the assistant to the band’s manager). As you can imagine, Nix was about to hit rock bottom but he is now decided to keep fighting (especially for the very few people he cares about). But he is still broken and he is haunted by his heartbreaking past. Enter Zoe. She is his ‘babysitter’ for the next few months and then she will finally get to be a manager on her own. She only needs to take care of Nixon and not act on the chemistry she has with the charming but troubled guitarist. Easy, right?

That’s always how it worked, wasn’t it? I fucked up. Someone else paid the price. But not Zoe. She was where I drew the line—where my “always” became “used to.”

I just knew Nixon’s story would hit me right to my heart because it was obvious we had a broken hero in our hands from his first appearance in the series. I was highly expecting his story and I have to say Rebecca did a very good job. I loved Nixon and Zoe from the very first page: the banter, the hidden vulnerabilities, the sexual tension and their unstoppable connection. I loved the opposites attract / forbidden theme in the storyline because it just made me even more addicted to see the development of this relationship.

Loving him was a force so strong there was nothing I could do to protect myself.

Muses & Melodies is, for sure, the most emotional of the three books in the series and it’s completely understandable when you discover Nixon’s past. My poor heart broke for him and I loved how Zoe starts giving him a new hope in life. For different reasons, both of them are weakened around each other but (even though they are opposites), they just click together. As soon as they start being so much around each other, the chemistry is impossible to miss and it was beautiful to see their relationship grow. It was not easy but oh-so-worth-it! I loved seeing them get their HEA (though I wish the epilogue would be a bit more developed) together with the rest of the crew.

My need for her was constant and only surpassed by my love for her.

Therefore, I am rating Muses & Melodies with 4 STARS because Nixon and Zoe’s story made my emotions run high and made me fall in love even more with Hush Note. This couple was so wonderful together and they fought until the very end to be with each other. Overall, I really enjoyed this multi-authored series and the rock-star theme in it. I am so glad these three characters found their happy endings because they sure deserved them. Very good conclusion to the Hush Note series!

Oh, my heart!

My bruised, aching, joyful heart. Oof.

This series has been perfection. And because of the skillful way Sarina Bowen and Devney Perry crafted their stories - my heart was already primed to attach itself fiercely to Nixon Winters. I already hurt for him. I already loved his soft, loyal underbelly. I already knew his story was going to hurt.

Each of these stories has hit my feelings in different ways, but Nixon's tugged at my heart the hardest. The reason for Nixon's issues isn't revealed until very late in the story, but the way Rebecca Yarros painted his agony -- it didn't even matter what had happened to him. I wanted to hug him. And shake him. And hug him some more. He engaged all my protective instincts. I am powerless against a wounded hero, and Nixon's lost soul completely captured me -- heart and soul.

His relationship with Zoe was equally as captivating. The way the burn between them sparked and sizzled as their banter fluctuated between contentious and flirty. The incorrigible, devil-may-care side of Nixon was a surprise -- and also completely irresistible. I loved how he and Zoe evolved from adversaries, to friends, to so much more. I loved how strong Zoe was, how bravely she opened her heart to him, and how steadfast she was in her love.

The conflict, when it came was explosive. It hurt to watch them burn it all to the ground. Yet somehow, even in the middle of all that pain, there was beauty as both Nixon and Zoe dug deep and made peace with parts of themselves that might have held them back. There was so much delicious angst, so much succulent sweetness, so so much to love - and I did. I loved every minute. My heart is wrecked for these two.

There were lots of good band moments in Muses and Melodies too. Their friendships evolved and deepened, and that ending? Of all the sweetest, happiest, most satisfying endings - I have no words! This series was every bit as good as I had hoped it would be, and in some ways - maybe even better. From the sweet soulfulness of the writing, to the compulsively addictive storytelling - Nixon and Zoe came alive on these pages, and they left my heart bruised but happy. An effortless FIVE STARS -- y'all, do not skip this book! ~ Shelly, 5 Stars

This series simply doesn't miss, not a bad book in sight.

“I wanted him for more than a few months. Somewhere between his penthouse in Seattle and the ranch in Colorado, between the private jets, the dressing rooms, and my mom’s kitchen, I’d fallen in love with him."

Fresh from rehab Hush Note's lead guitarist Nixon is continuing to fight his internal battles and upkeep his sobriety whilst his manager's assistant, Zoe has been put in charge of keeping an eye on him. Nixon has never seen women as more than a way to burn off extra energy and as someone who works for him, he knows better than to be interested in Zoe. But between late-night tea-drinking, hanging out with her lovely family and making an ex jealous with a searing hot kiss at a fall festival he might just fall anyway.

With this series Rebecca Yarros was a new author to me, I have read and loved many Sarina Bowen and Devney Perry books so I was unsure what to expect from her book. And I adored it. Might have actually been my favourite of the series which is saying a lot considering how much I loved the last two. I will definitely be checking out some of her other books. As well as re-reading this series multiple times because it makes me so happy.

Oh my god, I loved Nixon with all my heart. I have never wanted to reach into a book and hug someone more. And Zoe!!!! Her determination and her heart I was obsessed. And these two together were the absolute sweetest. You go through their journey and you can tell it isn't going to be easy and there are definitely hard times but they work through them and try to ensure they are doing what is best for each other.

Their love was as pure in their quiet moments as well as their loud declarations. The way she noticed his guitar strap gave him a welt so bought him a new one so it wouldn't or the way he bid $10 000 on her mothers cake a festival to make sure she won.

I was never a big fan of rock star romances but I've read a few this year that are changing my mind on that and this series has definitely swayed my opinion and is up there as one of my favourite rock star romances.

I loved this book with my entire heart and am sad to see this series end but will definitely be re-reading it many a time in the future.

From all the three books, I loke Muses & Melodies the best. Miss Yarros once again, proof herself as a very talented writer. The story of Zoey and Nixon hits the right notes.

Miss Yarros done a wonderful job bringing Nixon as a broken character. He shield it well with his outgoing nature. When Zoey is put on the task to baby sit Nixon sparks exploding. I do love Zoey's family. They have a tight interaction. So contrast from Nixon. Muses & Melodies have the right amount of drama/ twist in the story and not overwhelming the main plot.

The banter is also cute and sassy. Both Nixon and Zoey is sassy and quick with their banter.

Overall this is a wonderful read.

Just random thoughts

We finally get Nixon's story, Nixon is the self destructive addict of the band. Every summer he drinks more, does drugs and has lots of crude and meaningless sexual encounters. His band and members of his management team try to contain him but he seems to have turned over a new leaf. Of his own violation he entered and completed rehab....now the band's manager has sent his assistant to help Nixon keep on the right track. But Nixon is battling demons no one knows about and maintaining his sobriety means finally facing his past

Zoe left her old life and cheating ex behind to pursue her dreams, after years of being Ben's assistant she finally has the opportunity to manage her own band. Only problem is keeping Nixon clean is the condition attached to her goal. Nixon delights in getting under her skin and after years of cleaning up his messes Zoe thought she had a handle on who Nixon really was but as time passes and feelings build it's clear that there's a lot of pain under his bad boy image. But getting Nixon to face his past isn't easy and may just cost her her newfound love.

*********
This book had a lot of stuff I didn't like

Manwhore H
H sleeping with others after meeting h
h seeing evidence of his manwhoring

BUT......I really enjoyed this book.

We get hints that Nixon is dealing with something big and his behavior is him trying to make it through the most difficult time of the year for him yet it was hard to take.
The fact that Zoe has had to clean up his mess for 4 years is just as hard.
Like the previous book in this series I can't pinpoint exactly what made me love this book and maybe on a reread the above mentioned stuff might bother me more.....but at this present moment I really enjoyed this one

I loved their separation at the end, Nixon really needed that time to get his head together and to be sure that Zoe wasn't just another "fix" for him. The ending was absolutely lovely

No cheating
H was a HUGE manwhore
h has worked as the bands manager 's assistant for years so she's seen the girls, the drugs, the alcohol
After she's been assigned to him he brings 2 girls to his home while the h is there. Now nothing eventually happened but I honestly can't say that if one of the girls hadn't had alcohol that he wouldn't have been with them
After they get together no-one else for him
Girls are around until almost the end but he wasn't interested

Muses and Melodies follows Nixon, a troubled lead band singer, as he fights his demons and addiction to put his life on track-- that's when his live-in "babysitter" Zoe comes in -- her job is to keep him in line but what starts as a battle of wills turns into something neither of them expected.

The passionate and raw connection build-up between them was so 🥹 it gave me heartless by Elsie Silver feels..I'm a sucker for FMC's who see beyond the walls built by troubled MMC's😭

What to expect :
▪︎ Rockstar romance
▪︎ Forced proximity
▪︎ Grumpy / sunshine
▪︎ Slow burn romance
▪︎ Healing and redemption
▪︎ Dual pov

I didn't realise this was part of a series (3rd book) I'll definitely be reading the others as one of them is by Devney Perry aka an auto-read author for me.

This is the third book I read for Rebecca Yarros -- after reading the "in luv duet" -- PLEASE READ IF YOU HAVEN'T  -- I'd pick up anything romance by her. The way she writes complex layered MMCs just does things to my heart🥹❤️‍🩹

“I love music. I love the way it can change my emotions, and the way it can give voice to things I can’t seem to say. I love when a song becomes the soundtrack to a moment in my life, and then hearing it takes me right back.”

~~ “I want you so badly that I’m hard the second I smell a damned coconut!”
“Well, I bet you’re fun in the produce aisle.”
“I’ve been banned by your local grocery store.”

<><> Story Overview <><>
After taking some unmarked pills from a groupie, Nix ended up in the hospital with a question as whether or not he would even survive. According to Nix, that was his Come-to-Jesus moment and he’s spent the last 45 days in rehab (his fifth rehab trip).

~ “I had become a liability, not just to the band but to my best friends’ personal lives as well…and they didn’t even know the why of it.”

With some upcoming tour dates looming on the horizon, the band manager wants to make sure Nixon stays sober. Therefore he assigns his assistant (Zoe) to live with Nix to ensure he doesn’t fall off the wagon.

~ “If you want to cancel the dates now, I’ll support that decision. We’re here to make sure you stay clean. But if you want me to keep those dates on the books, then Shannon is staying by your side to make sure you don’t go off the rails. That’s the deal. Take it or leave it.”

Zoe and Nix like to push each other’s buttons, so sharing the same space is proving to be an interesting new dynamic for them.

~ “Ironic. They were all so concerned for my sobriety, yet they’d just saddled me with the one woman who could drive me to drink. At least they’d given me something to do between shows. It was going to be a shit ton of fun to see just what it would take to get under her skin.”

<><> Characters <><>
<>Hero: Nixon Winters, Age: 27, Occupation: bassist for the Grammy award winning rock band, Hush Note
~ Nix views himself as a f’d up beyond fixing. He did not have a good childhood and is carrying around some heavy demons. He drinks to forget, to cope, to find oblivion.
~~ “Quinn was the beat of a show, she drove it forward. Jonas brought the heart. Nixon…he was the energy, the palpable hum of excitement. It seemed to emanate from him like a magnetic field, drawing everyone a little closer.”

<>Heroine: Zoe Shannon, Age: 26, Occupation: band manager’s assistant and a lawyer
~ Zoe comes from a small town in Colorado and has a great family. Her keys to success are staying organized and in control. She has a good ear for new musical talent and has aspirations of becoming a band manager someday.
~~ “I’d rather be known as the buttoned-up, organization freak who can’t color outside the lines but nails her job, than the girl who nailed the rock star to climb the ladder.”

<><> A Few Thoughts <><>

^^ ~ the whole “I’m attracted to you, but I’m pissed about it” worked for these two. This led to some good banter. because you never knew what would come out of their mouths.

~~ “So, you have to dress like Jackie Kennedy at eight in the morning while working from home?”
God, I hated him. Hated that smug look on his stupidly attractive face. “First, that’s not an insult, and second, what would you prefer I wear to work? Something to match you?” I gestured from his toes to his torso.
“I’m cool with you going shirtless.”

~~“Now, I’m going to go call your producer and stall him yet again, because ignoring someone’s phone call is the kindergarten equivalent of hiding behind your own hand and swearing no one can see you. News flash, Nixon. We all see you.”

~~“You and happy don’t exactly go together. That’s like throwing SAT prep into the homecoming dance.”

^^ ~ I thought Zoe and Nix were a good balance. Zoe brought calm to Nix‘s chaos.

^^ ~ Nix made her do goat yoga 🐐
~ “If a goat poops on me, you’re buying me a new suit.”
“It would be worth it just to see your face.”
“You really do love getting under my skin, don’t you?”
“It’s the highlight of my day,”

^^ ~ I really started to like Nix as a person when they went to Colorado. You could really see what a genuinely nice guy he was once you got him out of the spotlight and away from his temptations.

^^ ~ I needed a little bit more of how Nix confronted or came to terms with his past. It would’ve been good to add his growth in that area into the story.

<><> Quotes <><>
“She might have a body like a Sunday drive—all lush curves that demanded two hands—but she had a mouth like a Monday morning alarm clock. ”

“His ass could make sweatpants cool again.”

“Relax. Moms like me. I’m very popular in the forty to sixty demographic.” He winked.”

“No leather?” I asked, noticing the way his jeans hung on his ass. If I were a pair of jeans, I would want to be Nixon’s, that was for sure.”

“I’ve dreamed about stripping these dresses off you for years.”
My lips parted. He noticed.
“You’re not going to say the same?” He lowered his lips until they grazed mine.
“I’ve never seen you in a dress.”

“It doesn’t actually have to be bed.” He leaned in and brushed his lips over mine. “I can adapt pretty easily. This table will do just fine. That wall over there? Even better. We’ve got a few couches, the kitchen counter too. Or I can take you straight down to the floor.”
“Yes, please.”

This is not my favourite troupe, Boss and employee, but be read the previous books in series and also previous books by this author so I thought I'd try it.
Dual POV.
Previous couples appear in this story.
Nixon is a huge man-whore in previous books, obviously has something bad in his past and is an addict.

At the start of this book Nixon has returned from rehab and Zoe is supposed to keep an eye on him, keep him clean and out of trouble.
The Hero has feelings for the heroine but feels he could never have her.
The heroine has witnessed his bad behaviour in the past, including with many women, so although she thinks he attractive thinks she would never get involved with him.

Quite early on

'Nixon sat lounged on his couch, his arms stretched across the back and his thighs spread wide as two young ladies in underwear ground on each other in front of him'

They leave before anymore happens.

Nixon's POv
'Sex was a need I fulfilled. It was an itch to scratch, a thirst to quench, or a way to pass the time while feeling really damned good. It was another source of the oblivion I was always chasing. But the person I was having it with never mattered.'.

He also makes a threat that she can find him a woman for a hookup after the show but doesn't really do it.

No details of recent relationships of heroine but she is currently single. There is small ex drama for her when she and Nixon return to her hometown.
She mentioned in a flippant comment sharing a bed with her ex, lost her virginity to him.

There is a bit of push/pull from both.

Other than the scene above no intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.

During a three month separation neither with others and it's the Hero who is anxious she won't wait for him.

I liked that the rehab issue was dealt with in a more responsible way, he couldn't give up one addiction for another, he had to get treated properly.

HEA.

Epilogue 5 years later.

Muses & Melodies is Nixon’s story the third member of the Hush Note band.
We have seen Nix struggling with addiction in the previous books in the series and I was so curious to know and to understand him better in this book.

I loved this story. It was nice, funny, hot and moving. The epilogue was just the sweetest ending that will put a smile on your face and it will mend your broken heart.

Nixon is Hush Note’s guitarist extraordinaire, after he comes back from the rehab he finds out that his friends and collegues won’t leave him alone and unsupervised.
Zoe is the assistant to the band’s manager and she has to be Nixon’s “nanny” for the foresee future.
They have always been attracted to each other but they never acted on it because their jobs were more important to them.
Will their forced cohabitation drive them mad trying to keep their hands for themselves or will they give in to temptation?

“Holy shit, he kissed like he played guitar-like nothing else mattered on the planet, and in that moment, nothing else did.”

It was a long time since I’ve read a Rebecca Yarros’ novel, I’ve found her writing even more engaging and touching than I remember.

I highly recommend to read this book, it could be as a standalone but if you don’t want to miss anything from the supporting characters’ lives you should start from the beginning with Lies & Lullabies then Rifts And Refrains then ending with Muses & Melodies.

Ahhh I am absolutely kicking myself that I didn't sign up for Rifts & Refrains as well. I am so in love with Hush Note I don't know if I can wait a week to get my hands on it. Because Sarina Bowen and Rebecca Yarros just slayed my aversion to rock star romance and I just want more.

After I read Lies & Lullabies I jumped straight into this one. I was a little nervous because we didn't know a lot about Nixon other than that he was haunted and self-medicating. But seriously that could have been anything and the manwhoreness on this one was so strong I didn't know how anyone was going to get below the surface of his still water.

Zoe was just wow. I loved her. She was so driven and working so hard to make a name for herself. There wasn't a single thing about her that even gave me pause. She was just awesome. And her and Nixon complemented each other so well I couldn't get enough of them.

I am so glad I jumped into these books blind and now I'm going to one click Rifts and Refrains because I need Quinn's story.

A cute, contemporary romance featuring a famous musician who has just completed rehab (for the 5th time) and Zoe, assistant to the band manager turned babysitter. Zoe is in charge of making sure that Nixon doesn't break his sobriety, completes the band tour, and writes some new music for the album.

This book takes us back to the Legacy series partially, which is another series I'm excited to get my hands on. We spend quite a bit of time in Zoe's hometown so I expect fans of the Legacy series will love that.

While I did enjoy this book, I wasn't blown away. Maybe it would have helped to have read the other two books in the series but I'm not eager to jump into those either. This is a very basic romance for me personally, and I didn't feel there was any real relationship development.

I think fans of Rebecca Yarros' will enjoy this but it's definitely not a romance novel that will stick with me.

5 I’ve Got Tea CROWNS

I’ve been waiting for Nixon’s story since the beginning of the standalone Hush Notes series, and Rebecca Yarros didn’t disappoint. Nixon’s and Zoe’s story is one of redemption and heartache, with love triumphing over all.

Nixon is the bad boy rocker you love, heart of gold with ghost plaguing him. You wanted to hold him close and keep him safe, and that is why readers will like Zoe. She toes the line of caring for him and holding him responsible. She had the best of both sides. She forced him to answer the tough questions. She was vulnerable and laid her heart on the line. I loved her strength and her belief in not only herself but also their love for each other.

Nixon has demons to battle, and while it was pretty clear what those issues were early in the book, it didn’t listen the impact when it all blew up. It was hard to see these two people who gave each solace destroy each other.

I did enjoy how this couple handled their reconciliation. It was real and authentic, and it spoke to the who they were as people. That epilogue, though. Rebecca Yarros brought it all full circle, as there is nothing I love more than seeing rockstars settle down and finally enjoy life, real life with the people they love and who matter most to them.

This was such a wonderful series. The right amount of angst and heart, Hush Notes will be one of my fave rock star series.

I totally loved Nixon and Zoe and their love story. I think this was the best in the series, for sure my favorite. I loved Nixon since book 1 and couldn’t wait for his story. Zoe was also a great heroine. I loved their chemistry and their dynamic. However, there was a little too much back and forth for my liking and I feel like the story lost some steam towards the end. Great story and great series nonetheless!

OMG THIS SERIES IS AMAZING!! We have Rebecca Yarros coming in with the finale that stars Nixon and BLOWS ME WAY. This series snuck on me. It blew down the doors of a "typical" rockstar romance and floored me with the amount of FEELS and grit that surrounded me while reading. I truly LOVE this series. I completely connected with all of the characters, and felt their love, heartbreak, devotion, and friendship...these authors did an incredible job of writing each story with it's own flare, and tragedy, personal to each character, in a way that melded them altogether but let them stand alone as well. Read this series. Jonas, Quinn and NIXON will own you. They will completely win you over and make you want do deeply for them. I LOVE THIS BOOK. Read it. xo

"Top 3 Reads of my life!"

I CAN NOT... CAN NOT PUT INTO WORDS THE LOVE I HAVE FOR MUSES AND MELODIES. I am the type of gal to review as soon as I finish reading because my emotions and feelings are still raw. It's unheard of me to actually wait to write my review, BUT this time was different. I put my hands on the keyboard to start said review, and I couldn't even put the words down because I was still reeling like an addict, and to be perfectly honest, I still am. All my thoughts are still tangling together from the magic that Yarros created. There is no words in Websters dictionary that could do Muses & Melodies justice, but I will try to do my very best.

I was/am completely spellbound by Nixon and his sassy as all get out Herione and that is because this author has more talent in her pinky finger than most authors all together, and no that is not a dig at other authors. Yarros is just on a completely different planet when it comes to her writing skills. She more than captivates me, she flipping awh's me. Yes, I know Muses and Melodies is fiction, but THIS fiction is no where near superficial. In my opinion, it was life like with real world issues that this author hit the head on.

The development was spot on. Not one time was there a stutter. The depth carved my heart out, and I mean that on so many different aspects and coming from so many different POV's. The growth and the resilience shown is what makes this one inspirational. So many people could learn a thing or two from Nixon and his cathartic story. The dialogue and all that in itself is something else. I can not put into words how much I adored getting into Nixon's head, and seeing why he said this, or why he done that.

The chemistry and connections deserves a paragraph of it's own because well, so many different reasons. The push and the pull was FANTASTIC. Yarros done that with so much maturity and self love, and that is why this book is one of my favorites of all time. Doing right from wrong, and wrong from right. Everything was built the way I could only dream of.Nixon and this Sassy heroine are different in so many ways, but for me? That is what makes them so right for each other.

Goodness, I have done wrote a book for a review lol. Okay okay, I will leave off with this, Muses and Melodies is the one book you do not want to miss because this is the book that can give you life.

*I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK
*REVIEWED FOR REVIEWS FROM THE HEART

Muses & Melodies is part of the Hush Note stand-alone series. I previously read Rifts & Refrains and loved it so much so I had to continue on in this series that follows the band, Hush Note. This book follows’s the band’s lead guitarist after he is out of rehab and the heroine, who works for the band already, becomes his handler.

Nixon Winters is Hush Note’s lead guitarist and fresh out of rehab, the band’s manager and his bandmates want to help him as best as they can and so Zoe enters the picture. Zoe is an assistant to the band’s manager who has always watched Nixon self-destruct every summer, but with album deadlines and tour dates fast approaching there is no time for that. If she can keep him on the straight-and-narrow for 6 months, she made a deal to be able to get her own band to manage. With her career riding on Nixon staying sober and his demons at bay, Zoe has her hands full.

I loved the forced proximity of this one! Zoe moves in with Nixon and sticks by his side at all times. Nixon is definitely a tortured soul and has so much to work through, you definitely feel for his character. It was so fun when he decides to take off to her small town in Colorado and of course Zoe comes along with him. Seeing him open up to Zoe, after a while, was so nice to see. I loved how she was always in his corner.

3.75 Stars!

I like the premise of the story, it was interesting. A damaged hero who's trying to stay sober and a sassy heroine. Although I find it the story a bit slow moving, it still work out fine.

I love Quinn and her frank comment.  I love the group's dynamic relationship.

What's bothering Nix was not fully explored.

The last few chapters was a bit cheesy for me.  I was actually looking forward more to reading Quinn's wise remarks rather than Nix and Zoe's. Still, it was a great conclusion to the Hush Note series which could be read as a standalone.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I enjoyed Rifts and Refrain, but Muses and Melodies took my breath away. In this installment Yarros delivered a story that wreaked havoc with my emotions. The good thing it had me smiling at the end.

Nixon stole steal a piece of your heart. He may be a badass on the guitar, but beneath all that lay a broken soul.  He tried to mask his pain with alcohol, prescription drugs and sex. However,  he recognized this was not the answer and he needed to get his life together for his sake and that of the band and without anyone's intervention he took the necessary steps.

Nixon showed tremendous growth throughout the story. Learning of the events that led to him tumbling down this hole broke my heart. He struggled daily, with the many temptations associated with his world but he remained steadfast and determined not to revert to his old ways.  Falling love gave him an extra boost.

The chemistry between him and Zoe flew off the charts.  The idea of her being there to keep tabs on him, did not sit well with either of them, but their emotions had other plans. He tried to rile her up, but she pushed right back. Soon they found themselves enjoying each other company. Their journey has a couple  encountered several roadblocks, which came as no surprise in light of Nixon's struggles. So, yes there is angst but it fits and added authenticity to the story.

One of the hardest things is to show someone who feels they are not worthy that they deserved to be loved. Zoe faced this challenge with Nixon, but she never gave up on him.

The story was not all sad. Yarros injected humour in the most appropriate circumstances. Moments, which had me giggling from time to time, especially the scene featuring Zoe's ex.

Narration

Carly Robins and Tim Paige narrated. While I am familiar with Carly Robins as a narrator, this is my first time listening to Tim Paige. They both did a wonderful job with this story.  Their tone, portrayal of the characters and emphasis on the emotional aspects of the story amplified the listening experience.

Conclusion/Recommendation

This is my first experience with the author and I doubt it will be the last. Muses and Melodies was a fitting conclusion to the series and one I would recommend to fans of emotional love stories. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

“Your warmth singes my soul. Brands me, marks me, welds me whole.”

Oh. My. Addiction!!! I am so hooked on the Hush Note family! Muses and Melodies is a moving masterpiece that marked my heart and sang to my soul. Rebecca Yarros has crafted a romance that’s as strong as it is sexy and sweet, a fierce and feel-worthy journey that tackles the battle of addiction as it bleeds, love, lyrics and light.

Told through a struggling rocker and the strong woman who’s his muse, Muses and Melodies is a tangled hero and heroine web woven with a harmonic tune that touches the heart. Its prose is powerful and passionate, a journey of love, lyrics, light, and life. Yarros brings complex characters of many layers to life and they owned every bit of my heart. An unlikely match of a hero and heroine, but perfect together.

The hot, bad boy rocker, Nixon, has met his match in the sassy and stunning Zoe, his North Star. Zoe is his light in the dark who brings Nixon back to life. Yin and yang. I was ENTHRALLED with this hero and heroines’ emotional journey and romance, which brims with delicious sexual tension and tenderness. Nixon and Zoes’ story rendered me soul-struck.

Yarros perfectly nails the opposites attract and friends-to-lovers tropes—the compassion, the complexity, the entanglement, the emotions—as she intricately captures the compelling characters. It was so easy to fall in love with every word, every character, and everything Muses and Melodies. I was UTTERLY CONSUMED with this tale that touched my heart. With its powerful and passionate prose, I could only surrender to the spell and song of Muses and Melodies.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ soul-singing stars

I enjoyed this one...

This third book features Nixon Winters, the lead guitarist of Hush Note. He is full of talent, charm, and charisma. Yet, when he returns from rehab, lawyer and assistant manger Zoe Shannon has the unenviable twenty-four seven job of 'baby-sitting' him. She has to keep him safe and away from alcohol, drugs, and sex for six months. An almost impossible task. But what is her prize if she succeeds? And in the prize worth all the angst she gets? Well, I recommend you get this exciting and intriguing book by talented Rebecca Yarros and find out for yourself. Find out what happens when you 'pour fuel on a bonfire'!

The last few of Rebecca Yarros’s books has been absolutely stellar for me—tear-jerkers, heart-wrenching and unforgettable sorts that you can’t really get back to unless you want a broken heart again and again—so giving ‘Muses and Melodies’ a go seemed like a natural step to take.

The minder and the out-of-control rock star gone off the deep end isn’t a new trope, but I was eager to see what Yarros has done with this. Not having read the first two books meant going in blind, but I didn’t have any problems at all getting into Nixon’s and Zoe’s relationship. Yarros’s writing—from plot to writing style—first of all, is solid…there’s a good flow to the book, well, up until the last bit where it seemed to stutter a bit when like all newly-minted relationships run into a hole and need some digging out.

The biggest issue I faced was the usual playing up of stereotypes: the manwhore rock star with ton of issues supposedly driving such reckless and wanton behaviour (and we all know by now just how I feel about that), the stoic but committed minder who inevitably falls in love with him and gets torn down by the sheer destructive power of his refusal (or inability?) to give more than he takes. Cue the ugly separation and the angst that follow, until someone gets a revelation or comes to a realisation.

That much diminished the power of Nixon/Zoe’s connection for me, more so when Nixon’s personal crisis was handled with what felt like almost a passing glance and a gradual (and non-dramatic) return to ‘normal’. I found myself sympathising more with Zoe and the tenuous rope that she walked with Nixon and her job, wondering too many times whether Nixon was worth that much of her time and effort, more so when the plot, after hurtling through at a steady pace, came to a standstill by the conclusion. With an ending that paradoxically felt as much of a slow burn as their beginning—even though it was clearly a HEA—, ‘Muses and Melodies’ simply seemed too sedate to soar.

This book was good but not quite 4-stars good. I enjoyed the story and liked both the hero and heroine.

Nixon, the lead guitarist for a famous band, is fresh out of rehab and his music label have Zoe, one of the label’s assistants, move into his home and basically act like a glorified baby sitter. Zoe has to watch him pretty much 24/7 to make sure he doesn’t fall into his old habits of drugs and alcohol.

I loved Nixon and Zoe’s chemistry. They truly cared for each other and Zoe loved Nixon through everything.

I did like this book, it was just my least favourite from the series.

This series has been perfection. I have absolutely loved this series and what Sarina Bowen and Devney Perry have brought to the table for these characters. And because of how they both masterfully crafted their stories, I was already in love with Nixon Winters. Nixon has been an enigma right from the very start, so I was desperately needing his story and find out what his demons were. I just knew his story was going to hurt. Rebecca Yarros brought this series home in a heart stopping, perfect conclusion. She absolutely nailed this complex character and provided him with exactly the story that he deserved and what I was hoping for.

I was completely spellbound by Nixon and Zoe’s relationship. Their chemistry was explosive and their connection was undeniable. I loved the journey, albeit a rollercoaster one, that these two went on. And the healing process that Nixon goes through was much needed, emotional and beautiful.

Muses & Melodies is rockstar romance perfection. Filled to the brim with tenderness and all of the feels, heartbreaking and beautiful and filled with so much hope. This series was one of my highly anticipated reads for this year and I loved the concept when I first heard about it, and Sarina Bowen, Devney Perry and Rebecca Yarros have given us three very different but beautifully seamless stories. And each one of them completely stole my heart. It finished off with an emotional bang and was the perfect conclusion to the Hush Note Series. I have absolutely loved every second of this incredible series.
