It was just sitting there so sadly, the last one of it's kind, being sold for 1€. I opened it up, realised it was written in 1998 and translated to my language in 2005, then looked around and thought to myself what the heck, just do something unexpected from time to time, so I bought it. There is something I must stress before anything else! If you think that you're getting an archaeological analysis of the scrolls and the area where they were found, you should not expect that much because less than half of the book is what it claims to be - The Mystery and Meaning! More than half of the book is really depicting the scientists who studied the scrolls and the fights they had with each other and the controversies surrounding the findings. Even rumors which do not belong into a scientific book in my opinion. There is nothing wrong with voicing your opinion regarding the findings (which the author did), but to discuss scandals like the most important thing surrounding the scrolls was not for my taste. We do learn a lot about the scrolls and the time they were supposedly created and stored. We get some guessing surrounding the scrolls, but in the end - bad spoiler alert - no definitive answer because nobody even knows who created the scrolls, why they were there and how they got there. Most of the theories in the book sounded like complete stupidity to me. The scrolls were supposed to be written by this jewish sect who were supposedly living nearby and yet nobody is even sure if this sect existed or why the scrolls are written in more than 3 different languages. As you can see by how many times I've used the word supposedly, all of this is one giant blah! There were just so many loopholes in the evidence found, that I feel like these "scientists" were just spending their time fighting eachother and trying to prove their right, instead of making a legit theory. In my opinion this is not a good book and I would not recommend it. Not even if you are reading on the Dead Sea scrolls. Just pick a better book regarding this theme....more
