- Alexandra McKay is a woman who's been blind for twenty years and is afraid that people will just try to get close to her because of her condition, so she ultimately stays to herself and her trusty guide dog, Emma. When Richard Chapman enters her life, a romance develops and McKay begins to let the outside world in to her private world. The prospect of an operation arises that will restore McKay's eyesight, but the fear of what it will do to her relationship with Chapman and the concern over the fate of her guide dog weigh heavily upon her decision to do the procedure.
- Art designer Susan Winslow learns she's pregnant, and not wanting to marry the father estranges her from her elitist parents, Evelyn and Warren. Luckily, she has neighbor Harold, a gruff author, to lean on as a single mother.
- Stanley is jealous when Helen wants to reunite with an old boyfriend who is in town, so he tries to reconnect with an old girlfriend to get even with her. Also, David trades Jeffrey's model train set for Stanley's old inner tube.
- Jack and Larry are both dating the same girl and don't know it.
- Chrissy's high school friend turns out to be a high priced call girl.
- Jack moves in with Chrissy and Janet, but to get past the landlord who doesn't like young people "living in sin", he must pretend that he is gay.
- Janet's male friend cannot go on a business date with her and her boss, so she asks Jack. Jack has a cold and the strong rum drinks make him loopy. In the morning, Jack wakes up in Janet's bed and doesn't remember what happened.
- Larry has access to a cabin in the woods so everyone joins him for a weekend in the wilderness.
- Larry pretends to be Jack in order to date Janet's visiting friend.
- Chrissy is concerned when Jack does not make a move on her when they are left alone for the night.
- Janet's friend Randy comes to town, and when Jack meets her, he is smitten. Janet is OK with Jack and Randy going out. Later, Janet and Jack find out Randy omitted one detail - she is married.
- When Mr. Roper alludes to a big surprise that he is going to have for Mrs. Roper on their anniversary, the roommates think that he is going to leave her for another woman.
- Lilly the barmaid is pregnant and deserted by the father, so Cindy vaguely complains to the roommates about men and pregnancy. As a result, Jack and Janet think Cindy is the one pregnant.
- Chrissy and Jack think that Janet is hiring a surrogate father.
- Jack gets fired from his new job for refusing his female boss's sexual advances. He decides to sue her for wrongful termination, but his problems only begin there.
- On Jack's move in day, Chrissy's mother, who doesn't know about him moving in, drops by unexpectedly for a visit.

- Jack and Mr. Furley get locked in a freezer by a burglar.

- Janet and Terri walk into a conversation, hear that someone is going out of business, and assume it is Jack's Bistro. They devise a plan to give Jack money to save what they think is his losing business, and Jack buys a leather coat.
- Mr. Angelino's daughter Francesca visits the restaurant and meets Jack. Mr. Angelino warns Jack to keep away from his daughter, but she pursues him, so he pretends he is married to discourage her.
- Janet learns that Terri's new boyfriend was a convicted murderer.
- Reverend Snow asks Chrissy to move back home as he does not approve of his daughter's living arrangement.
- Chrissy is on a trip to Fresno and did not leave money for the rent. Jack and Janet do not have enough to cover the rent and try to come up with the rest of the money. Luckily, Chrissy's cousin Cindy moves in with them.
- Jack and Janet try to protect Chrissy when they discover that her new, older boyfriend is a married man.
