First announced in 2021, the film is to be produced by, and possibly star, Oyelowo, and is to center around a retired member of the Tuskegee Airmen who takes up the high-flying mantle of the Rocketeer. Oyelowo spoke about the project with Collider's Christina Radish while promoting his new Apple TV+ series, Government Cheese.
Says Oyelowo of the long-in-development sequel:
"I’m definitely still trying to get it done, especially when you see what’s happening to the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen as it pertains to what’s going on in the country politically at the moment. To get that film made is definitely something I’m very, very focused on. One of the hardest things with any project you’re developing is when there’s regime change,...

Kelly McGillis' Charlie was one of the big reasons the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun worked so well. A smart, capable woman in an era of token girlfriends, the Top Gun actress brought a surprising sense of equality to her relationship with Tom Cruise's Maverick. She dictated the terms of their romance, she was presented as the more emotionally mature of the two, and, at the end of the film, he came to her rather than staying out with the boys and their shirtless volleyball games. Her status as an instructor keeps her in Maverick's orbit without much effort, and she was a shoo-in for Top Gun: Maverick, the 2022 sequel that turned into an even bigger hit than the first film.
Yet McGillis didn't appear as part of the cast of Maverick, citing ageism as the cause. Her absence left Maverick without one of the key ingredients to its predecessor's success.

Anna Wintour doesn’t come to Los Angeles often, so when she touches down, it usually means there’s important fashion business on the horizon.
That proved to be the case Wednesday when the global editorial director of Vogue and chief content officer at Condé Nast assumed position at a podium situated on the Chateau Marmont terrace just before 11 a.m. in front of the city’s fashion elite. But a few faces in the crowd — specifically Governor Gavin Newsom, mogul Casey Wasserman and costume designers Arianne Phillips, Colleen Atwood and Ruth E. Carter — signaled that the official business would stretch beyond fashion.
“We are thrilled to be here in Los Angeles, a city we love, that we admire, which gives us so much and has been constantly in our thoughts since the winter. This is a moment when coming to Los Angeles, joining in the effort to rebuild and...

In the grand pantheon of comic book adaptations, The Rocketeer stands as one of the most curious cases of Hollywood misfires (although we love it here at JoBlo). A film that had all the makings of a blockbuster—charismatic leads, a visionary director, thrilling aerial action, and the full backing of Disney—it instead crash-landed at the box office and left behind a legacy of what could have been. So what happened to The Rocketeer? Why did it fail to take off upon release, and why has Disney left it to languish in obscurity instead of embracing its cult status? Let’s strap on our rocket packs and find out.
The story of The Rocketeer begins with the comic book series created by Dave Stevens in 1982. The character, Cliff Secord, was a loving homage to the pulp serials of the 1930s and 40s, particularly King of the Rocket Men. With...

In 1982, a visionary sci-fi future noir film called Blade Runner opened in theatres and bombed. Years later, it not only developed a cult following, but critics also cite it as one of the greatest and most influential science fiction films of all time. In 1998, Alex Proyas’ Dark City had a similar release and reception. Audiences balked, but critics recognized the film as a visionary masterpiece. Roger Ebert named it the best film of the year.
Now, almost 30 years later, Dark City has undergone a renaissance similar to that of Blade Runner. In addition to an ardent cult following, audiences have discovered the power of the film. Critics recognize it as one of the greatest sci-fi movies, the legacy of which continues to this day. With undeniable influence, rich atmosphere and provocative philosophy, it too deserves a place in the Great Movies canon.

But despite the criticism, they still very much remain a crucial part of the entertainment ecosystem, making sure that both the industry and its stars stay in the public eye, because at the end of the day, it is a business after all.

One of the stars of the blockbuster sensation that was Top Gun: Maverick has sadly revealed that they will not return for the next installment in the action franchise, Top Gun 3, which is now in early development. Released back in May 2022, Top Gun: Maverick picks up more than thirty years after director Tony Scott’s 1986 classic and follows Tom Cruise as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell as he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for an important, and seemingly impossible, mission.

After first making a name for himself in Hollywood with roles in films like The Spectacular Now, the Divergent trilogy, That Awkward Moment, and Fantastic Four, Miles Teller experienced a resurgence in popularity following his scene-stealing performance in the 2022 blockbuster hit Top Gun: Maverick. The highly-buzzed-about sequel to the celebrated '80s classic featured Teller teaming up with silver screen staple Tom Cruise's test pilot and flight instructor Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as he teaches a new group of ambitious Top Gun graduates.

Labyrinth may be beloved by Jim Henson fans today, but it was a long, hard road for the mostly puppet-based fantasy to achieve cult classic status. Even as someone who's loved the film since childhood, I freely admit it's a bizarre movie: the Fireys creeped me out when I was a kid, the internal logic is a little wonky, and David Bowie is....David Bowie. It's also a weirdly sexual movie, even outside of Bowie's infamously tight pants, which adds another layer of weirdness considering that Jennifer Connelly was only about 14 when playing co-lead Sarah. Perhaps even more shocking is that Labyrinth was not Connelly's first time working with a legendary filmmaker on a film with a very strange premise and style.

Italian horror maestro Dario Argento is known for ultraviolent, hyper-stylized spectacles that are among the greatest genre films ever made. His most excitingly bizarre effort is easily 1985's Phenomena, starring Jennifer Connelly as a schoolgirl with a secret straight out of a Stephen King story. The legendary Italian production company Titanus has just announced their intention to turn the story into a TV series — which, if done well, could be very exciting for fans of Stranger Things and Yellowjackets.
In Phenomena, a savage serial killer stalks the students of a Swiss boarding school, and teen outcast Jennifer Connelly has one major line of defense: her psychic connection to insects. Her power helps her close in on the murderer and navigate the perils of private school, all in the course of a feature film — but a series-length expansion of this unique story could be the perfect replacement for Stranger Things after its 2025 finale.

Jay Ellis, the actor who shared the screen alongside Tom Cruise and Miles Teller as Lieutenant Reuben "Payback" Fitch in Top Gun: Maverick, has offered a positive update on the highly anticipated sequel. Per Ellis, Top Gun 3 is gearing up to take flight, with writers currently working on the script. Top Gun: Maverick was one of the most important and successful movies to come out in the post-covid-19 era. After its release, you would have thought that a sequel was the obvious next step for Paramount Pictures and star Tom Cruise. Nevertheless, it appears they don't want to rush the film for the sake of a cash grab. Cruise cares about his stories, and writer Ehren Kruger is likely in tune with finding the right one.
Ellis, who has also appeared in films like Escape Room, Somebody I Used to Know and TV shows like Insecure, offered the encouraging update recently.

Back in 1985, legendary genre filmmaker Dario Argento brought the world a movie called Phenomena (watch it Here), which was drastically recut and retitled Creepers for its release in the U.S. and the U.K. That one one doesn’t get mentioned as often as some of Argento’s other films, but how can you go wrong with a movie that has Jennifer Connelly, Donald Pleasence, and a chimpanzee? The writing duo of Nicola Guaglianone and Menotti are apparently fans, as they were planning to develop a sequel to the film… but now, Variety reports, their idea has evolved into “a long-form TV series that would bring new life to the original’s narrative.” Phenomena: The Series is now set up at Titanus Production, who are taking the project to the international festival Series Mania to participate in the Co-Pro Pitching Sessions, promising to “captivate potential partners with its...

Apple TV+ has become the premiere home for all the best sci-fi shows, and one of the streamer’s most successful creations from 2024 was Dark Matter. Based on the novel of the same name by Blake Crouch, Dark Matter tells the story of Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton), a man who is kidnapped one night and wakes up in a reality he doesn’t recognize. Dark Matter, which also stars Jennifer Connelly and Alice Braga, was such a success that Apple TV+ renewed it for a second season despite the first season adapting Crouch’s novel in its entirety. Stephen King's authorial brand might be the farthest from romance writing, but the king of horror has written about romance to great effect. One of King's most gutwrenching works, "Lisey's Story," is inspired by deeply personal circumstances. It revolves around the titular Lisey who mourns the death of her husband while revisiting their intense, complex relationship. This is a story about a dead writer who is only valued by the world for his literary contributions, with Lisey being the only person capable of piecing together the complete picture of the man he was. Although a romance, the book ventures into the dark, surreal recesses of the psyche, along with the real threat of parasocial relationships taken a step too far.
The romance element in King's novels is not always this twisted or bittersweet in flavor. In fact, "11/22/63" — a quasi-historical time-travel fantasy that takes some wild swings — presents its central...

Robert Eggers is one of the few directors left in Hollywood making a name for themselves under the old auteur model, where people become interested in their movies because they made them, not because they're tied to some already-established IP. Between The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman and now Nosferatu, Eggers has forged his own path and actually succeeded. It's pretty much him and Christopher Nolan holding that particular fort.
And Eggers will continue to blaze new trails with a new movie called Werwulf. He's already covered witches and vampires, so this seems like the next natural step. But Deadline reports that he's signed on to make a sequel to Labyrinth, the 1986 dark fantasy movie starring Jennifer Connelly, David Bowie, and a bunch of Jim Henson puppets.

Jim Henson’s Labyrinth has been in line for a sequel, reboot or remake for several years now, and latest reports have revealed that it may finally be moving forward with Nosferatu director Robert Eggers as both writer and director. While the announcement was greeted with excitement by some – and why not when we are talking about a director who has proven capable of working with both original and often-rinsed material – the idea of “messing” with the ‘80s classic has still generated a strong reaction online.
Labyrinth is one of Jim Henson’s greatest achievements, even if the Muppet creator himself never really got to see just how loved the movie would become after its initial flop release. Starring David Bowie and a host of colorful and memorable puppet creations, Labyrinth is the very definition of a cult classic, and has earned a position as a movie with a solid place in pop culture.
