Lost Girls director Liz Garbus returns to focus on a corrupt criminal system and crime victims and their families seeking justice in the trailer for Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer, which bows on Netflix March 31.
The 2020 Lost Girls movie for Netflix that starred Amy Ryan centered on a mother searching for her missing daughter in Long Island and who makes a horrifying discovery in the woods where the murdered bodies of four girls had been dumped.
Gone Girls, also for Netflix and set to bow March 31, is also based on the famously unsolved Long Island serial murders, and Garbus brings her cameras again to a troubled police investigation that left friends and family of disappeared and forgotten women in the sex industry denied justice.
“There were red flags, one after the other, as to what was not looked into by the police,” one commentator says in the trailer for Gone Girls,...

Memento Intl., the well-established Paris-based international sales company behind “Call Me by Your Name,” is rebranding as Paradise City Sales and is bringing “My Notes on Mars,” starring Greta Lee and Andrew Scott, to the EFM.
Emilie Georges, who founded Memento Intl. 20 years ago, launched the production vehicle Paradise City a few years ago with London-based Naima Abed. The pair have had great success with the pics they delivered, notably 2025 Sundance hit ”Atropia,” starring Alia Shawkat and Channing Tatum, and Anthony Chen’s 2023 drama ”Drift,” with Cynthia Erivo. “My Notes of Mars,” Hungarian director Lili Horvát’s English-language debut feature, is the latest co-production on Paradise City’s slate.
The rebranding comes at a pivotal time as Georges and Abed seek to build a closer bond between production and sales. As such, the sales outlet will now operate under the same Paradise City banner, which has offices in Paris and London,...

Prepare for some captivating documentaries and docuseries from Netflix this year. The streamer announced during its Next on Netflix event that it will be premiering new projects about the Manson murders, Osama Bin Laden, the Titan submarine implosion and Hurricane Katrina, just to name a few of its upcoming buzzy docs.
The first major new documentary release is a big one. The documentary film “Chaos: The Manson Murders” will premiere on March 7. From legendary filmmaker Errol Morris, who previously released “The Thin Blue Line” and “The Fog of War,” little is known about this project other than its subject matter. The film is likely based on Tom O’Neill’s “Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties.” Morris, Robert Fernandez and Steven Hathaway serve as producers.
That will then be followed by “American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden,” which will premiere on March 10. The upcoming docuseries offers...

Spike Lee’s next joint for Netflix is called Katrina: Come Hell and High Water — one of three documentaries planned for the streamer in 2025.
Lee’s doc with Message Pictures will revisit the hurricane that caused 1,392 fatalities and more than $100 billion in damages in 2005. The official logline for the doc set to drop in August says the “hurricane turned cataclysmic through human error and neglect. Over the course of a gripping and emotional three episodes, the people of New Orleans recount their past, extoll their present and lean into the future of what they and their beloved city survived and have become 20 years later. The series sets the stage for a tragedy — whose man-made elements expose the systemic governmental neglect that led to the city being defenseless in the face of the storm — and Katrina’s devastating impact that changed New Orleans irreparably. One of the great benefits of the Sundance Film Festival is that it provides a forum for independent film producers to gather and not only share war stories, but celebrate one another and offer support for the films being unveiled. On Sunday, January 26, the Sundance Producers Celebration was held for this exact purpose, with the 2025 Sundance Institute | Amazon Studios Producers Awards being presented to producers of films premiering at this year’s festival. “Babygirl” producer David Hinojosa also delivered the keynote address.
Joe Pirro received the Amazon Studios Fiction Producers Award for his work on the remake of “The Wedding Banquet” starring Bowen Yang and Lily Gladstone, while Danielle Varga received the Amazon Studios Nonfiction Producers Award for the documentary “Seeds.” Both will receive a $10,000 grant as part of this prize. IndieWire shares Hinojosa’s keynote exclusively below.
David Hinojosa: This is truly a place that allows you to be exactly who you are.

Amy Adams had a fun karaoke moment with Taylor Swift but that led to a humorous regret.
While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Nightbitch star said years ago she met Swift at an awards show afterparty where they sang karaoke together to “What’s Going On?”
However, Adams admits she may have unknowingly upstaged the singer because she was really “in it.”
“I may have sang it a little loud and I’m sure everybody was like, ‘Amy, shut up! We want to hear Taylor sing.’ I was just in it,” Adams recalled. “But I should’ve just sat down and let Taylor sing upon reflection. I had a blast. And now in reflection, if I were to do it now I would be so different … I sang really loud over Taylor Swift, and probably not great either.”

Amy Adams spoke about tapping into her own experiences while shooting new film Nightbitch at its Los Angeles premiere Thursday night.
“I had just come off of a play, so I was already working on a deficit of sleep and being very tired. I had a lot of a sense memory of being a parent and sort of the exhaustion that comes with that,” Adams told The Hollywood Reporter on the carpet of the filming experience.
“I think, with this, I just wanted to meet the character where I was, and so it was wonderful to not have to pretend to be different than I was on set,” she said. “I feel like I really was able to channel my own experiences through this.”
Adams stars in writer-director Marielle Heller’s horror-comedy film, which follows the character known just as “Mother” as she deals with motherhood and realizes she might be turning into a dog.

The Fithian Group, launched last fall by longtime NATO chief John Fithian, has developed a data-driven, digital theatrical distribution marketplace it hopes will revolutionize how independent filmmakers and rights-holders book and release movies in theaters.
An early version of the platform, called Attend, rolls out Stateside in the first quarter of 2025. The U.S. and Australia will be initial markets.
Dozens of filmmakers and producers from Sean Baker to Steven Soderbergh Patty Jenkins and Ted Hope are supporting the concept, signing on to an Attend statement “that modern, democratic, data-driven marketplace providing an efficient and effective way to distribute all genres of film directly to theatres and audiences is a vital need for our industry and art form.”
Powered by entertainment tech firm Vista Group, the marketplace allows filmmakers to upload details and materials for their films directly onto the platform. Exhibitors can search the database, and Attend recommends movies.

The former leader of theater-owner’s group NATO has a new way to get your independent film into movie theaters — one intended to cut out the middleman.
John Fithian is launching an online marketplace to connect filmmakers directly with exhibitors. The platform is called “Attend,” and it puts the “intelligence” into its artificial intelligence. Attend’s tech, powered by the Vista Group, pairs filmmakers with the specific theaters best suited to their movie. For exhibitors, Attend is a portal to a broader range of content. This way, filmmakers retain the rights to their movie, and exhibitors keep control over their screens.
Sorry about all of that, distributors.
A filmmaker uploads details about (and assets from) their films directly into Attend, including metadata and other specifics. The platform’s AI will match the movie with theaters based on their customer data, local demographics, and affinity groups.
Attend will launch an alpha phase in the U.

When I first heard about Nightbitch, for some reason I thought it was a horror movie with Amy Adams morphing physically into a dog.
It isn’t. Cujo can breathe easier now.
What was so surprising about this sweet, wise and glowing tribute to mothers everywhere, premiering at the Toronto Film Festival today, is how down-to-earth and real it is. It is funny, touching and very real despite the metaphysical aspect of Adams’ Mother character thinking her body has so deteriorated after childbirth and a case of postpartum depression that she turns basically into a dog. The movie does require her to dig and sniff around the garden in full Lassie mode, but it isn’t any kind of startling thing. Adams also works opposite eight dogs in order to give the audience the full visual experience of this feeling. But that is not what Nightbitch is at heart.

Amy Adams finds herself in a hairy situation in the first trailer for Nightbitch.
Searchlight Pictures released the promo on Tuesday for writer-director Marielle Heller’s horror-comedy feature that hits theaters Dec. 6. Also starring Scoot McNairy, Zoë Chao and Mary Holland, the film centers on an artist (Adams) who put her career on hold to become a mother and suddenly realizes that she might be transforming into a canine.
“I’m never going to be smart, happy or thin ever again,” Adams says in the trailer. “Oh, and I’m pretty sure I’m turning into a dog.”
She goes on to grapple with the power of being a woman and says, “Do you ever feel like the big secret is that we are gods? We fucking create life. We are so powerful.” Later, Adams informs someone, “I could crush a walnut with my vagina.”

Amy Adams has been in development with Nightbitch for over a year, but details have now started to surface as the neo-horror film has recently released a new poster from Searchlight Pictures. The film has been written and directed by Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Nightbitch is based on a novel by Rachel Yoder. The film will tell the story of “a suburban mom thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler. As she embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a dog.”
Adams plays that possibly canine housewife. Scoot McNairy (Monsters) is also in the cast, playing her “oft-traveling husband,” while Mary Holland, who is best known for appearing in the Netflix release Senior Year and for co-writing and co-starring in Clea DuVall’s romantic comedy Happiest Season, takes on an unspecified role.

The first official poster for upcoming horror comedy, Nightbitch, has been released to mark Mother's Day. The surreal-sounding horror comedy stars Amy Adams (Man of Steel) as a woman who starts to believe she's undergoing a hair-raising transformation.
The six-time Academy Award nominee will play a woman who begins to transform into a dog (or thinks she does... it's not really clear). Searchlight Pictures acquired the project, which is described as a "darkly comic horror" adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s acclaimed debut novel of the same name.
Can You Ever Forgive Me? director Marielle Heller will take the helm.
“She’s incredible, I mean, we all know Amy Adams is incredible," Heller said of Adams' performance in a recent interview with IndieWire. "She’s been nominated for a million Academy Awards. She’s amazing, but she really is special in this movie and I’m just so excited for the world to see her.

An adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s acclaimed debut novel, from writer-director Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) Nightbitch tells the story of a woman thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs, who slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, as she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine.

Amy Adams-vehicle Nightbitch, starring Amy Adams, has landed a Dec. 6, 2024, release in cinemas during the heart of awards season. The Searchlight Pictures and Annapurna film was originally intended to debut on Hulu, but will now get a theatrical release.
The project is from Marielle Heller, the actress-turned-filmmaker whose helming credits include 2015’s The Diary of a Teenage Girl and Melissa McCarthy art-forgery dramedy Can You Ever Forgive Me?, also from Searchlight.
Nightbitch is an adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s 2001 satirical novel about a woman who finds herself in a mind-bending and energy-sapping routine of raising a toddler in a suburban home while her husband is on lengthy business trips. Rachel Weisz is both executive producer and star of Amazon Prime Video’s limited series “Dead Ringers.”
“It’s a psychosexual thriller about codependence,” the Oscar-winner told Variety at the show’s New York City premiere. “It’s twisted and entertaining and darkly humorous.”
A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 classic film, Weisz plays twin doctors who share an unapologetic desire to push the boundaries on medical ethics as they challenge antiquated birthing practices to bring women’s health care to the forefront.
Simultaneously juggling the characters of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, the sisters are gender-swapped in the remake of the movie that starred Jeremy Irons as the twin doctors.
As a producer, Weisz says she was “involved in it from beginning to end” with Emmy-nominated writer and playwright Alice Birch, who served as showrunner.

What’s better than Rachel Weisz? Two Rachel Weiszes. The Oscar-winning actor is playing twins in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming “Dead Ringers” series, and the streamer now has double the footage with the release of the full official trailer for the show.
The series is based on David Cronenberg’s 1988 psychological thriller film, which starred Jeremy Irons as Beverly and Elliot Mantle, identical twin brothers who run a successful Obgyn clinic. Weisz plays gender-flipped versions of Beverly and Elliot, but the twin’s disturbingly close relationship — down to sharing lovers and drugs — remains intact. The trailer, set to Soft Cell’s 1981 synth cover of “Tainted Love,” teases a very different storyline compared to the original film, focusing on the twin’s experiments to change the very way women can give birth — pushing against basic medical ethics in the process.
“You want me to grow you a baby out of nothing?...

Although we recently got our first look at the upcoming David Cronenberg remake "Dead Ringers," we hadn't actually gotten to see any of the bizarre action to come on Prime Video. Luckily, that has now changed, because the streamer has released its first, albeit very brief look at the limited series. Don't expect to spot any major plot details with this 40-second teaser, but you will spot two very different Rachel Weiszs in bloody lab coats. You may think you know why if you saw the 1988 David Cronenberg original starring Jeremy Irons, but will that be the case with this new take? Who knows! Regardless, this teaser has us sold.
What we do know is that Prime Video's take on "Dead Ringers" looks appropriately moody and downright creepy. Come on, if you are adapting a Cronenberg work, you need to embrace the weirdness that is so synonymous with his stories.

David Cronenberg's work can never truly be replicated, but that doesn't mean it can't be modernized. One of his movies best primed for re-interpretation is "Dead Ringers," his 1988 psychological thriller starring Jeremy Irons in dual gynecologist roles. The film has frequently been considered one of the best Canadian films of all time, landing on the Toronto International Film Festival's decennial curated Top 10 list. While certainly a great movie, it can be argued that some of its themes may be better explored with a few changes.
Thankfully, "Dead Ringers" is about to get a new lease on life thanks to Prime Video. The streamer has released new details about its series adaptation of the film, directed by such big names as Karyn Kusama and Sean Durkin. While this adaptation has been in the works for a few years, it's actually coming to our screens closer than you may realize. Here's...

Sony Pictures Classics has nabbed the North American rights to the Sundance award-winning film The Persian Version, a mother-daughter dramedy written, directed and produced by Maryam Keshavarz.
The film’s critical acclaim at Sundance, where it earned the Audience Award in the U.S. Dramatic Competition and The Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award in the same sidebar, brought buyer attention to the film and a subsequent bidding war where Sony Pictures Classics prevailed.
Keshavarz’s film about Iranian immigrants in New York and New Jersey feeling neither at home in America or Iran stars Layla Mohammadi, Niousha Noor, Kamand Shafieisabet, Bijan Daneshmand, Bella Warda, Chiara Stella, Tom Byrne and Shervin Alenabi.
The film centers on Iranian-American Leila, played by Mohammadi, who comes from two countries at odds with each other, and strives to find balance and embrace her opposing cultures, while boldly challenging the labels society is so quick to project upon her.
