On a trip home to Kewaunee, Wisconsin a body falls from the undercarriage of a plane and lands beside Woody. It turns out to be the body of his former mentor - Sheriff Cody. He follows the evidence to Los Angeles but finds that he's not the only one that wants to solve the case.

When evidence unexpectedly appears at a murder scene Woody has been investigating, he is accused of planting it. Bug and Nigel argue over a possible alien abduction case.

Macy and Peter, while responding to a call, come across a man who was hit by a car. Macy helps him while Peter freezes. Later Macy learns that the man who they turned over to some paramedics died upon arriving at the hospital. When he goes to speak to the ER doctor, the man refuses to discuss anything with Macy. He later discovers that several other accident victims died upon arriving at the same hospital. Woody and Bug look into the death of a journalist. They believe that his death may be linked to a story of his about a prostitute. A man arrives believing that the prostitute the journalist wrote about could be his daughter.

Jordan and Bug team up with a new, obnoxious detective to investigate the murder of a man who only hours before was on a blind date with Jordan. Meanwhile, after a train car separates and ends up in the river, Garret and Lily work together to track down the families of the victims and Nigel must deal with survivor's guilt after narrowly missing becoming one of them.

Jordan and Detective Lois Carver team up to investigate the death of a senator's daughter and cross paths with a pushy reporter. Bug and Nigel try to respect Jewish law while looking into the death of a man involved in an automobile accident. Macy wrestles with spirituality vs. legality in the case of a transvestite with a special request upon her death.

The bodies of a mother and her two young sons leads to a triple-homicide investigation.

When a veteran cop is murdered in the line of duty, Jordan leads the police and vengeful Detective Eddy Winslow - Max's former partner - to a possible suspect. But after the shooter dies in police custody, Garrett must launch a coroner's investigation to see if Det. Winslow went too far while making the arrest. Elsewhere, Garrett opts to forgo his annual Christmas feast with his ex-wife, Maggie and join Lily for a Thai dining experience, angering his daughter, Abby, while Trey worries if Nigel's invitation for a weekend on the ski slopes also includes a slalom under the sheets.

Woody believes that they have in custody a serial killer who was active years ago who stopped but appears to be active, who was arrested on a different matter. So he asks Macy and Jordan to come up with some forensic evidence that could be link him to the murder. Woody has to deal with the ambitious detective, who arrested him. And Bug is trying to help Detective Seeley locate some crucial evidence which was devoured by a cat.

Jordan teams up with the new M.E., Elaine, and finds herself in the middle of an ATF power struggle, when she investigates the death of Wendy Marsh, wife of alleged Unabomber-style terrorist and former ATF agent Lester Marsh - whose grief and rage over the personal vendetta held against him by a former partner Agent Hawkes, pushes him to strap on some homemade explosives and hold the morgue hostage. Meanwhile, a personal quest for love in the crypt and some friendly advice drives a wedge between long-time mates, Bug and Nigel.

Lily tries to be supportive to a mother who has lost her son through aids from an infected tattoo needle, but Lily's tattoos cause the mother to shut down. Jordan meets with Dr. Stiles to discuss her past relationship with Tom Crane, whose estranged wife has been found dead. Macy and D.A. Wolcott are called to examine the body of Roland Winton, a prisoner who was executed on death row. His parents believe his execution was cruel and want it investigated.

A missing woman's body washes up in the ocean after a decade. Meanwhile, Dr. Winslow's estranged wife ends up in the morgue after a fatal drug overdose.

A plastic surgeon is found dead in the special facility where his patients recuperate after surgery. Initially suspicion falls on the man's partner. Later the focus shifts to his wife because they discover that he has been unfaithful. And when the body of a girl who's runaway is found, a search for a man who was the last person to see her alive ensues.

Garrett gets a tip on where a man, who committed a murder years ago who disappeared, is. So while he tries to find out if it's true. He has everyone look at all the evidence again. Woody finds himself working with Detective Garcia who was the one who originally handled the case. Garrett goes to New Mexico and tries to get help from the local ME and is joined by a bounty hunter who wants to bring the man in so he can collect the reward.

Jordan works with Bug on a missing persons case involving the sister of a murder victim. During their investigation Jordan and Bug discover new clues in an old case which help prove how and who murdered the missing woman's sister. Meanwhile, Garrit, Nigel and D.A. Walcott work on a case involving a Boston crime boss.

When a body is found in an old house which some people think is haunted, Jordan tries to find out what happened. When Woody has a close call in a parking garage, he finds a body. Macy works with him and they learn the man is a soldier who was discharged. They also learn he has traces of explosives on him.

Macy is involved in a game of cat and mouse with a self-proclaimed forensics expert, Oliver Titleman, who is killing people in order to prove that he is smarter than Garret. Jordan thinks she hears someone being murdered through the vent system which is under construction and enlists Nigel and Peter to help her prove it.

After discovering a floating corpse, Jordan, teamed up with a famed FBI criminal profiler, is forced into a nationwide manhunt for a serial killer.
