Three months after calling off his summer tour with Crazy Horse due to an unspecific illness in the band, Neil Young returned to the concert stage Saturday evening at Farm Aid in Saratoga Springs, New York. He was backed by his new group the Chrome Hearts, which features organist Spooner Oldham, guitarist Micah Nelson, and the Promise of the Real rhythm section, bassist Corey McCormick and drummer Anthony LoGerfo.

Their abbreviated set kicked off with a trio of songs from Harvest Moon: “From Hank to Hendrix,” “Harvest Moon,” and “Unknown Legend.

Writer/director Bradley Rust Gray is taking audiences on a tour of grief abroad.

The filmmaker’s latest feature, “I’ll Be Your Mirror” (originally titled “Blood”), follows a widow (Carla Juri) who travels to Japan on a business trip. While there, she reconnects with an old friend and reconnects with her lost joie de vivre. The feature debuted at Sundance in 2022.

The official synopsis reads: Chloe (Juri) travels to Japan for work where she is welcomed by an old friend, Toshi (Takashi Ueno). Sliding between the melancholy of the loss of her husband and the awe of perspectives changed, Chloe wanders an unfamiliar landscape.

Fresh off of winning her second career Grammy, Kylie Minogue has signed with UTA for live representation in the United States and Canada and acting worldwide.

The Australian singer won the best pop dance recording Grammy — a new award — earlier this month for her viral hit “Padam Padam.” The song is from her 16th studio album, Tension, which was released last year and reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Minogue, 55, won her first Grammy — best dance recording — in 2004 for her groovy hit “Come Into My World.” Her hits also include “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” “The Loco-motion” and “Love at First Sight,” among others.

She has sold more than 80 million records worldwide, earned five billion streams and launched nine U.K. No. 1 albums. She’s won three Brit Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards, and is the only female artist to score a No.

When country singer Chris Young heard a demo of a new song in consideration for his next album, he didn’t need a rock encyclopedia to identify a key part of it. “This song started and I said, ‘That’s the lick from ‘Rebel Rebel,’” Young recalls. “I immediately knew what it was. I wouldn’t say that I’ve exhausted David Bowie’s catalog, but that one is instantly recognizable.”

John Mellencamp, 71, has planned out a 76-date North American tour for 2023. The Live and In Person 2023 Tour started in February and will finish at the end of June.

The tour announcement came just after an exhibition celebrating Mellencamp at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opened to the public. The showcase includes his suit from the photos promoting his 2003 album Trouble No More, an oil painting by the music artist and one of his 1976 Fender Telecaster guitars. Mellencamp was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.

Mellencamp is a singer-songwriter known for his heartland rock music. He rose to prominence in the 1980s with a series of Top 10 singles, including “Jack & Diane,” “Hurts So Good” and “Cherry Bomb.” He has been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards and has won one.

Dane DeHaan has signed on to star alongside Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie and Josh Hartnett in Christopher Nolan’s film Oppenheimer for Universal Pictures, Deadline has confirmed.

Nolan’s latest is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. Murphy stars as the theoretical physicist of the same name, whose work on the Manhattan Project led to the invention of the atomic bomb. Details as far as the character DeHaan is playing have not been disclosed.

Nolan is directing the film, going before cameras in New Mexico, from his own script. He is also producing with Emma Thomas and Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven, with the film slated to debut in theaters on July 21, 2023.

Swiss actress Carla Juri showed us how far she could push us in the ick-factor department with 2013’s squirmy and riotously distasteful coming-of-age sex comedy “Wetlands.” In “The Exploding Girl” and “Jack and Diane” director Bradley Rust Gray’s gently plaintive soul-searching odyssey “Blood,” his latest low-key, melancholy outing, Juri shows more restraint but packs no less punch as a widow named Chloe. Adrift after the death of her husband, she finds herself in Japan on business, wandering an unfamiliar landscape that also emerges as a backdrop to her mourning. Despite Juri’s commitment, however, the world Rust has built around her (vividly conjuring the magic of on-location Japan) blunts the performance and ultimately leaves just a gossamer, alienating impression.

But how beautiful that scenic backdrop is. Awash in memories of...

Albeit beautifully shot and made tolerable by the warm presence of Carla Juri in the leading role, blood is a frustratingly indulgent study of emotional recovery after the loss of a loved one. This fourth feature by Bradley Rust Gray is splendidly appointed with locations in Japan and Iceland and an appreciation of emotional openness expressed by all the characters. All the same, the mostly short scenes of recent widow Chloe handling her grief day by day possess little compelling drama and are handicapped by a scruffy Japanese male lead who just doesn’t match up with his appealing female counterpart in any credible way. As with the director’s previous work, you come out of it wondering who this film was made for.

Exclusive: Heat and Saving Private Ryan actor Tom Sizemore has boarded Bruce Bellocchi’s female revenge thriller The Legend of Jack and Diane.

In the movie, Diane (newcomer Lydia Zelmac) decides to leave Indiana for a new life in Los Angeles. When Jack (David Tomlinson) and Diane discover secrets about the death of Diane’s mother, their worst fears are confirmed, and they are forced to run. On the way to Los Angeles to confront evil, they create a hit list to exact revenge on everyone involved. Cameras roll in Los Angeles next month.

Sizemore will star alongside Zelmac, Tomilson, Robert Lasardo (The Mule) and Alvaro Orlando (Destin Daniel Cretton’s I Am Not a Hipster). Bellocchi is directing from a screenplay he wrote with Rick Geller and Zelmac.

The project was originally written as an episodic series for HBO but lost its footing when the pandemic crippled the entertainment industry last year.

The two started dating in 2010, but called it quits five years later. Back in March, Mellencamp went on Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show, and implied that there was no way that he would ever have a shot at getting back with the 55-year-old actress.

The film follows Sarah, a neglected wife, who embarks on a road trip with her daughter and her best friend Mindy, only to have a dramatic falling out with her friend.

Three years later Sarah is forced to come to terms with her feelings for Mindy in the run-up to her friend’s wedding.

The cast includes Brooklyn Decker, Amy Seimetz, Marshall Chapman and Ryan Eggold.

On Wednesday, Rocker John Mellencamp, 63, and supermodel Christie Brinkley, 61, were photographed riding in the backseat of a car in New York City and both grinning from ear to ear. Kim wrote Lovesong with frequent collaborator Bradley Rust Gray, whose own features Jack and Diane and The Exploding Girl were produced by Kim. Lovesong reunites the duo with Keough, who starred in Gray’s Jack and Diane and also starred in a short film Kim directed for designer Miu Miu earlier this year, Spark and Light. Earlier this year it was reported that Steven Soderbergh’s lo-fi 2009 flick, The Girlfriend Experience, had been picked up by Starz. Spinning on the current trend of re-imagining movies into longer narratives for serials, the TV network placed an order for a 13-episode series. Now the project has found its lead in Riley Keough.

According to reports, the show will follow a similar premise to the movie:

“… which explores the relationships of the most exclusive courtesans who provide their clients with far more than just sex. These purveyors – or GFEs (Girlfriend Experience) – share intimacies more common to romantic partners or husbands and wives, becoming quasi-lovers and confidants who are richly paid for their time.”

Slated to be an anthology series, the show’s direction may take a different approach than Soderbergh’s original feature. For this version, he’ll sit out on directorial duties, instead taking an executive producer role alongside Philip Fleishman.

The Simpsons took to the stage of the Hollywood Bowl last night to kick off a three-day series of tributes and performances in anticipation of its 26th season. Conan O'Brien got onstage to perform a classic scene from a classic episode, the monorail song (voiced by the late great Phil Hartman) from "Marge v. the Monorail." Conan's an appropriate choice considering he wrote the episode. Also in attendance was Weird Al, who performed a parody of "Jack and Diane" as "Homer and Marge."
