Timothée Chalamet has become a very big deal over the last decade or so. With two Academy Award nominations and an ever-expanding list of excellent movies under his belt, the actor has flaunted his talent in a vast array of roles that range from playing Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown" (2024) to starring as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" movies and following Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in portraying eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka in "Wonka" (2023). That's a lot, especially from a young actor who seems destined to turn in great roles for many decades to come.
Any one of Chalamet's best movies is a great way for a movie fan to spend a couple of hours glued to their seat. However, few prolific actors can maintain a perfect win record throughout their career, and even one as wildly successful as Chalamet has a few less than beloved films in his CV.

Despite its legendarily divisive ending, ABC's Losthas still gone down as one of the greatest TV series of all time, setting the standard for "mystery box" shows ever since. Across its six seasons, it boasts some of the most acclaimed and memorable moments in TV history, from its groundbreaking pilot to its infamous flash-forward twist at the end of Season 3. Fans of the series no doubt have different picks for the best season, whether it's Season 1's setup of the island's many mysteries, or Season 3, which opened up the world of the show in all kinds of fantastic ways.
While the show's storyline got weirder and harder to follow in later seasons, Season 4 just might be the series at its very best, an ideal fusion of its island intrigue, high-concept sci-fi, and character development. It features some of the series' biggest payoffs, both from a plot standpoint as well as an emotional one,...

This time of year family’s at the forefront of the thoughts of many. Aside from being together (tough right now for some), the matriarch or patriarch is thinking about how to keep the home crew safe from harm and secure in their toasty beds. Unlike the Garrity clan from this week’s other big release Greenland, the Sharpe’s isn’t dealing with a planet-killing comet. His fears arise from the possible onslaught of stealthy intruders in the dead of night. It’s too bad that he doesn’t recall the quote from one of the founding fathers (maybe more of a cool uncle), Ben Franklin: “Those who would give up essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety”. Still, it probably didn’t occur to him that his fears could inspire his whole “unit” to succumb to a Bad Impulse.

"It makes you safe... Isn't that what you want?" Gravitas has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Bad Impulse, the latest film directed by actress / acting coach / director / producer Michelle Danner. In the aftermath of a traumatic event, a suburban husband & father decides to buy a cutting edge home security system from a mysterious man, only to find that it slowly destroys that which he most wants to protect. Sounds a bit like The Box, but with a home security system instead of a box. Bad Impulse stars Grant Bowler, Paul Sorvino, Sonya Walger, James Landry-Hebert, Abbi Ford, Stephanie Cayo, Dan Lauria, and Rebecca Black. This looks a bit too weird and a bit too creepy, but not really any good. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Michelle Danner's Bad Impulse, direct from YouTube: In the aftermath of a traumatic event, Henry Sharpe (Grant Bowler), a suburban father and husband,...

Guns Akimbo is a little-known 2019 New Zealand film which has recently been added to Amazon Prime in the United States. It’s a film that has flown under the radar, but after viewing, it’s a film that deserves to have a wider audience.
In an alternate future, but maybe not with how 2020 is going, an underground fight club, Skizm, is gaining popularity by live-streaming real death matches between criminals. The police and the government want to shut it down, but they cannot find the criminal mastermind, Riktor (Ned Dennehy), or Skizm’s deadliest and top competitor, Nix (Samara Weaving), to stop the popular enterprise.

Saban Films recently released a sneak peek clip of the new movie Guns Akimbo, which is scheduled for a release in select theaters at the end of this month. From Deathgasm director Jason Lei Howden, the new action-comedy movie stars Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe in what appears to be his most bizarre movie role yet, and this is certainly not like how we've ever seen him before. You can see what I mean by watching the sneak peek video below.
In addition to Daniel Radcliffe, Guns Akimbo also stars Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society), Ned Dennehy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Grant Bowler (Defiance), and Rhys Darby (Jumanji: The Next Level). The movie follows Radcliffe as Miles, a young man caught in a gang's deadly game where he's forced to fight to the death as part of an online show with millions of people watching across the world.

Genre television is our favorite, so it's no surprise that we wound up with two different lists! If your favorite genre show didn't appear on one or the other, it might be upcoming on the decade's best shows list!
Please remember that with have almost two dozen favorites lists that we couldn't showcase every show on every list, so we parsed them out a bit to make it more fun.
And these lists are not in any particular order. They're in the order the entries were received by TV Fanatic staff, so don't read into them!
To qualify, a show that began in another decade had to be airing during the decade, run a larger number of seasons from 2010 through 2019 if it started before 2010 or run the entire decade. Here we go!

Exclusive: Larry Thompson, the veteran entertainment attorney/personal manager/film producer, wants to add the additional title of U.S. Congressman. Thompson is entering the race in California’s 37th District, and will run as an Independent against 4-time incumbent Karen Bass.
It won’t be easy, and he knows it: Bass is a Democrat and the district — which includes 738,000 residents and encompasses both the new Disney/Fox in Century City and Sony Pictures in Culver City– has traditionally been a Democratic stronghold. The primary election will be March 3, 2020 and the top two candidates from any party will vie for the seat in the November 3, 2020 election.

Still Star-Crossed, the novel by Melinda Taub, is an interesting and clever look at the world Shakespeare didn’t actually lay out all that distinctly in Romeo & Juliet. It’s equal parts fan fiction and development cheat by appropriation, but it spins a decent yarn and delivers an updated sense of drama. It’s not only solid Ya entertainment, but it’s just the sort of effort we could use more of, both as an enticement to read more and backward entry into other literature.
Still Star-Crossed, the show, dresses up the idea wonderfully but renders it all rather lifeless by trying to out-drama itself at every turn in a decidedly Shondaland morass of overworked histrionics. Oddly, this manages, at points, to come full circle and become interesting again by offering up near-cornball drama in situations that actually require all the drama you would think you could muster.

We all know the story of Romeo and Juliet's fleeting romance and tragic deaths, but what happens next has always been a mystery -- until now.
Inspired by the novel by Melinda Taub, ABC's new summer series, Still Star-Crossed, ramps up the action and drama after Romeo and Juliet die, and the treacherous feud between the Montague and Capulet families that continues to rage on. But another forbidden romance presents itself at the end of the premiere episode and that will certainly ruffle 17th century feathers as the season progresses.
"It's the ultimate romantic story about forbidden love and I think a lot of people can relate to that," actress Medalion Rahimi, who plays Princess Isabella, tells Et of the time-honored Romeo and Juliet tale. "The tragedy in the end -- I don't want to say that it's good to necessarily glorify young lovers' suicide -- but the idea that because of prejudice these young lovers...

A sense of mystery drifts in from magic-hour tableaux and interior monologue voiceovers in this watchable tale about teenagers with special powers
Gorgeous to look at thanks to Autumn Durald’s cinematography, lushly scored by Nathan Halpern, and initially compelling, this oddcore work makes promises it doesn’t keep. Kiernan Shipka (Sally Draper from Mad Men) and Timothee Chalamet (Homeland) star as siblings living with their parents (Grant Bowler, Elizabeth Reaser) on an isolated farm without electricity. It’s isolated because there’s a huge fence that seemingly stretches for miles around their land (a steal from M Night Shyamalan’s The Village). Meanwhile, the teenagers have an unexplained ability to teleport at will – inventively rendered as a sudden swirling of dust and a sucking whoosh – but daddy doesn’t like it, and something is making mama sick. The film chooses to leave most of the what, whys and hows unexplained,...

Being sealed off from society for hundreds of days can cause serious strains on the psyche, as evidenced in SyFy Films' 400 Days. With the new sci-fi thriller hitting theaters and VOD today, we caught up with writer/director Matt Osterman for our latest Q&A feature to discuss Dane Cook's improv on set, the influence of The Twilight Zone, and much more.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Matt. When did you first come up with the idea for 400 Days?
Matt Osterman: There was this amazing experiment in Russia a few years back called Mars500, where six astronauts went into a fake spaceship for 520 days (crazy, right?). They had a great online presence (posting videos, photos, etc.) and I was hooked. After the mission was over and they got out with their sanity supposedly still intact, I decided to take that idea and...

In terms of VOD offerings, 2016 is off to a quiet but stellar start as the genre titles arriving in January include a handful of noteworthy indie horror films that should help ease the post-holiday doldrums.
Two movies I enjoyed during the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival—The Abandoned and Intruders—are both making their VOD debuts this month and Synchronicity, the neo-noir sci-fi thriller from Magnet Releasing, also arrives on January 22nd. The animated horror comedy Hell and Back is also coming to VOD this month and the new distro shingle SyFy Films is releasing 400 Days this January as well.

In January 2014, I spoke with Will Scheffer about his HBO series "Getting On" for this publication:
You can read that interview Here
And now we fast forward almost two years later and the show is in its third and final season. In our interview, Scheffer looks back at his experiences with the show and talks about collaborating with his husband, Mark V Olsen – creator, executive producer and writer of "Getting On" and their other shows, including "Big Love."
In addition to the HBO American cable channel, "Getting On" can be seen on HBO Latin America and HBO Europe and Asia, and through Sky (France, UK, Spain, and so on.)
Kouguell: With the increase of the global cable markets and increasing platforms, reaching a broader audience, how has this affected your shows?
Scheffer: It was gratifying to have read about "Getting On’s" reception in Paris (where they love the show) before the recent attacks and to know that this show speaks particularly to issues of loss and wounding and grief but in a way that enables laughter to mix with heartbreak. This season has so much more resonance to me as it is a comedy. It’s not escapist. It’s healing comedy. You can laugh and cry in the darkest of hours and to me, that’s the greatest service to provide as an artist. To allow people to experience their common humanity. Without self-importance. Experiencing and accepting the fragility of life, of being human, is a wonderful place to begin from.
Kouguell: Looking back at the three seasons of "Getting On," what were some of the most poignant and/or memorable moments for you working with the actors and writers?
Scheffer: We felt that by choosing "Getting On" to adapt we were entering into “stewarding” function with our British team. We wrote all of the episodes and the first two seasons had a lot of material from the original series to adapt, but the final season was all original story. Still, we went to London and ran our ideas by the original creators and worked with them. That relationship, receiving their input bonded us in a way that was unique to most adaptations. The fact that Vicki Pepperdine and Joanna Scanlan appear in Episode 4 as their original characters and meet their American counterparts, and vice versa— felt so amazing. It’s something we’d never seen before and it speaks to the way the British show and the American show are so different but like siblings, so connected. We share the same blood. So that’s a long-winded way of saying, going to London for a week to work with “the girls’ was a high point.
It’s hard to single out moments because working with our actors was the greatest experience of my career. Watching Niecy Nash bloom, seeing Mel Rodriguez and Alex Borstein prove how brilliant they are. Experiencing Laurie Metcalf’s genius (I mean she is a national treasure — beyond, beyond) and then all of our guest and co-stars. Just this season alone: Harry Dean Stanton, Mary Kay Place, Francis Conroy, Rhea Perlman, June Sqibb, Kristen Johnson, Jonathan Silverman, Jayma Mays, Daniel Stern, Rita Moreno, Grant Bowler, Janis Ian!!! Meeting Didi’s family -- Marsha, Corey, Gloria and Scott -- they felt like a real family. Anne Guilbert as Birdie. Not to mention the other great women we were able to work with like Betty Buckley, Tsai Chin, Jean Smart, Irma P. Hall, Alia Shawkat, Carrie Preston, Molly Shannon— I can’t even list them all, I know I’m forgetting people and not even mentioning the supporting cast who were brilliant. These diverse, brilliant actors in just 18 episodes.
Kouguell: This is the second show you have created for HBO, "Big Love" ran for 5 seasons and like "Getting On," pushed the envelope in its examination of timely, hot button issues. For Big Love, the show was not just about polygamy and the power of the church, at its core it was about family. In "Getting On," some of the major topics/themes you tackle are ageism and the health care system. While "Getting On" is very funny, it also strikes a major chord of realism. Truth is stranger than fiction.
Scheffer: I think I mentioned already the theme of human frailty. And I just can’t stress enough how I believe it is an “undervalued” value in our society. I mean we all get old and die. It’s not sexy but it’s part of life. And it doesn’t have to be shoved out of our consciousness or romanticized or treated sentimentally or “importantly.” It’s life. And I wish people knew what they were missing by avoiding dealing with their fears about it. It’s like, do you wanna deal with those fears now or do it later when it’s gonna be a real drag?
It was such a privilege for Mark and me to both be with our moms when they were dying. Sure it was hard, but it was incredibly layered and sometimes funny and of course heartbreaking -- but it was like I wanted to tell everyone: “Hey, you really should experience this, because it’s so amazing, even though it hurts, too.”
Kouguell: The main characters (with the exception of the brilliant Patsy) focus mainly on women and their relationships with their patients and with their colleagues. There is so much talk in the industry now about the lack of women’s roles particularly in the ‘over 40’ category. What are your thoughts on this?
Scheffer: Yeah. Well. That’s always been the case. And I think it’s finally changing. The volatility in the business is palpable and I think that finally that really big ugly fact about Hollywood is going to change. It has to. I know we’re going to keep writing great roles for women because, lucky for us, we’re good at it, I think.
Kouguell: What can we expect from this final season?
Scheffer: Well. It’s the final season. So expect big stories, some big reveals and I’d say that I think the finale is one I will always be very proud of.

We’ve got a great trailer for an upcoming sci-fi film called 400 Days, which comes from SyFy Films. Even though the movie was made by SyFy, it is getting a theatrical release. I guess the movie turned out a lot better than expected if they are going to be releasing it in theaters.
400 Days comes from writer/director Matt Osterman and it stars Brandon Routh, Dane Cook, Caity Lotz, Ben Feldman, Tom Cavanagh, and Grant Bowler. This is the story description:
400 Days is a psychological sci-fi film centering on four astronauts who are sent on a simulated mission to a distant planet to test the psychological effects of deep space travel. Locked away for 400 days, the crew's mental state begins to deteriorate when they lose all communication with the outside world. Forced to exit the ship, they discover that this mission may not have been a simulation after all.

"This is some simulation." There's a new trailer for a science fiction film called 400 Days, but it's actually a Syfy Film that is getting a full theatrical release in January. Turned out better than they were hoping, maybe? 400 Days is from writer/director Matt Osterman and is about a "social experiment" where a small crew of astronauts embarks on a deep space mission to another planet where the travel time is 400 days. Essentially, can they live together in isolation in deep space for that long? The feature film stars Brandon Routh and Caity Lotz, Ben Feldman, comedian Dane Cook, Tom Cavanaugh and Grant Bowler. This definitely looks Syfy cheesy at times, and overly horrific by the end, but I'm still curious to check it out. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Matt Osterman's 400 Days, direct from Syfy Films' YouTube: 400 Days is a psychological sci-fi film centering on four...

400 Days is a new sci-fi horror film from New Artists Alliance. The first trailer for the film debuted on Quiet Earth, recently and it can be found here, as well. The clip shows a psychological experiment taking place deep below ground. Events take a surreal turn after an injection and a trip to the surface. 400 Days stars Dane Cook (Mr. Brooks), Caity Lotz (The Pact) and Grant Bowler. To be released in early 2016, more details on the film are hosted here. For more on the story, four astronauts are brought into a simulated mission. Their goal is to reach a distant planet, through this altered reality. They will be locked away for 400 days and the cramped compartments and repetitive scenarios begin to have an effect on the astronauts' minds. However, this mission might actually be real, with the astronauts deceived about their real purpose and mission goals. Psychological experiments can often involve medications.
