In an astounding moment of tension with no release, the sound was cut at a Journey concert on Friday night right before the drop of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” as the band was forced to cancel the remainder of the show due to an electrical fire.
Videos of the moment have been uploaded online, showing frontman Arnel Pineda singing the song’s iconic opening lines to an excited crowd at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo hosted at Houston’s Nrg Stadium. Everything appeared to be going as planned until the first “It goes on and on and on and on,” when the crowd sang “on and on,” and the band… did not.
Instead, their sound went out and they appeared confused, with keyboardist Jonathan Cain shrugging to his bandmates and Pineda still singing into the mic as if it was on. The crowd kept singing though, up through the...

Singer Arnel Pineda’s bandmates in Journey have come to his defense after Pineda received criticism of his vocal performance during the band’s recent set at Rock in Rio.
As previously reported, clips of Pineda missing some high notes during “Don’t Stop Believin'” at Rock in Rio circulated online, eventually reaching Pineda himself. He then shared the clip in a Facebook post and wrote that he was “so devastated” by his performance, asking fans to vote on whether he should remain Journey’s lead singer.
Wrote Pineda: “i am offering you a chance now (especially those who’s hated me and never liked me from the very beginning) to simply text Go or Stay right here.. and if Go reaches 1 million… i’m stepping out for good..are you game folks? let’s start…”

Last summer, Adrian Stoica and Hurricane beat the odds to win Season 18 of “AGT,” more than a decade after Olate Dogs first barked their way to a victory in Season 7. Singer Arnel Pineda has asked fans on social media to vote on whether he should remain Journey’s frontman after a criticism of his recent performance at Rock in Rio.

“America’s Got Talent” is TV’s only competition show that embraces all forms of variety acts, whether you’re a singer, a comedian, a magician, an aerialist, or anything in between. Throughout its nearly two decades on NBC, seven solo singers have claimed victory, with the most recent one being Season 14’s Kodi Lee. (See the “AGT” winners list.) However, there are four specific categories that have yet to win the top prize of $1 million and a headline show in Las Vegas. Can any of these types of acts make “AGT” history during the Season 19 finale on Tuesday, September 24?
First up, here’s a refresher on this year’s Top 10 finalists: singer Richard Goodall, quick-change artist Solange Kardinaly, air-dance group Airfootworks, dance crew Brent Street, singer Dee Dee Simon, acrobatic group Hakuna Matata Acrobats, comedian Learnmore Jonasi, dog act Roni Sagi & Rhythm, aerial duo Sebastián & Sonia, and drone group Sky Elements.

Even though singing janitor Richard Goodall is the odds-on favorite to win Season 19 of “America’s Got Talent,” this competition is far from over. Journey‘s Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon have reached a resolution in a legal dispute regarding the management of their shared business subsidiary, Freedom 2020.
As previously reported, Cain sued Schon for mismanaging their shared business and overspending at the band’s expense — all this coming while Cain and Schon are actively sharing the stage for Journey’s summer North American tour with Def Leppard.

Cain’s lawsuit, publicly filed on July 30th, alleged that Schon maxed out an American Express credit card with a $1 million limit and blew past a $1,500-per-night hotel allowance, while also chartering private jets and hiring a friend as a security guard. The keyboardist also accused the guitarist of preventing the band from paying its debts.

Journey’s current stadium tour with Def Leppard became a little less awkward Thursday as band mates Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon reached a legal solution in their court battle involving the group’s credit card.

Journey founder and lead guitarist Neal Schon and longtime keyboardist/guitarist Jonathan Cain are asking a Delaware judge to resolve a business deadlock.
According to court filings, Schon is president of Freedom 2020, a company formed three years ago to oversee tour-related finances. He and Cain each hold a 50% stake in the company.
In a petition filed last week, Cain said he and Schon “fundamentally disagree” on the management and operation of the company. He wants the court to appoint a custodian as a director to resolve disputes.
During a hearing Wednesday, Cain’s attorney, Sidney Liebesman, told Vice Chancellor J. Travis Laster that the current situation is “dysfunctional.”

The legal battle between Journey keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Jonathan Cain and lead guitarist Neal Schon is still going, with the former filing a new lawsuit against the latter for alleged lavish spending at the band’s expense. What makes the ongoing legal issues especially awkward is that both Cain and Schon are active members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame act, currently sharing the stage together on a summer North American tour with Def Leppard.
According to Bloomberg, Cain’s lawsuit, publicly filed on Tuesday (July 30th), alleges that Schon maxed out an American Express credit card with a $1 million limit and blew past a $1,500-per-night hotel allowance, while also chartering private jets and hiring a friend as a security guard. The keyboardist also accuses the guitarist of preventing the band from paying its debts.

Towa Bird is the rock & roll firecracker we need right now. She’s the kind of upstart guitar shredder who comes along saying things like “I just want to be the lesbian Paul McCartney.” That takes attitude, kind of like calling your debut album American Hero. But Bird doesn’t lack for confidence. All though her rise to the top, she’s been a true believer—she really wants to be your new favorite queer Asian female glam-rock star.

Not long after their 2022 wedding, Trev Lukather (son of Toto guitarist Steve Lukather) and Madison Cain-Lukather (daughter of Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain) were playing some vintage tunes on a road trip. They came across Journey’s 1986 song “It Could Have Been You,” which neither of them had ever heard. “We were just blown away,” Trev Lukather tells Rolling Stone. “I loved the funkiness of it, and Steve Perry’s vocals were just insane. We kept playing that song on repeat.”

Ross Valory has dreamed of making a solo album ever since he started gigging around San Francisco in the late Sixties, but other projects kept getting in the way. He was in the process of amassing original songs in 1971 when the Steve Miller Band brought him into the fold to play bass on Rock Love. Later, he teamed up with ex-members of Santana to form the Golden Gate Rhythm Section. Within a few months, they changed their name to Journey.

The San Francisco 49ers were triumphant over the Detroit Lions at Sunday’s NFC Championship Game, but thanks to the game’s halftime show performers, Journey, at least the Lions can go home with a good message in mind: “Don’t Stop Believin’”
The veterans rockers served as the halftime entertainment during Sunday’s game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, performing a four song-set that included “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” “Be Good To Yourself,” “Any Way You Want It,” and “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
Journey’s onstage lineup consisted of longtime members Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain, as well as vocalist Arnel Pineda, keyboardist Jason Derlatka, drummer Deen Castronovo, and bassist Todd Jensen. The band hails from San Francisco, making their appearance at the 49ers home stadium a fitting choice. George Tickner, a co-founding member of legendary classic rock act Journey, has died at the age of 76, according to a social media post made by the band’s guitarist Neal Schon.
“Rest peacefully, Dr. George Tickner. You will be missed immensely,” Schon posted on Facebook.
Schon also posted: “Dear George … ‘Of a Lifetime’ is still one of my favorite songs ever. Rip brother God Speed.”
Journey formed in 1973 with a lineup featuring Schon, Tickner — brought in by Journey manager Herbie Herbert, who road-managed Tickner’s previous band Frumious Bandersnatch — along with bassist Ross Valory, singer Gregg Rolie, and drummer Prairie Prince (later replaced by Aynsley Dunbar).
While Journey are best known for their FM classic rock hits, the group actually played progressive rock early in its career, prior to singer Steve Perry joining the band. Journey’s 1975 self-titled debut is held in high regard among prog circles, and it’s...

Bob Rice, who teamed with Journey to release a groundbreaking rock music video game and represented top-notch composers like Steve Ouimette, Sascha Dikiciyan and Inon Zur in the industry, has died. He was 79.
Rice died Wednesday night of Copd at an assisted living facility in Santa Clara, California, publicist Greg O’Connor-Read told The Hollywood Reporter.
Rice created and executive produced what was perhaps the first rock video game, “Journey Escape.” Released by Data Age in 1982 for the Atari 2600 console and narrated by Casey Kasem, it featured band members Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory and Steve Smith as primitive digitized avatars.

Legal battles, failed “coup” attempts, Mar-a-Lago banquets, $104,000 in jewelry and clothes, off-duty police officers guarding the dressing rooms every night, and more — this is the world Journey’s been living in for the past few years, according to a comprehensive overview of the band’s ongoing drama published by Billboard.
At the center of the story are the band’s two remaining classic members, guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain. In 2020, the two consolidated their control over the band after suing then-bassist Ross Valory (an original member since 1973) and then-drummer Steve Smith, who joined the group in the late ‘70s and can be heard on their signature hit, “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Claiming the two were plotting a “coup” to seize control of the band, the lawsuit ultimately resulted in settlements, as well as Valory and Smith’s departures.

You don’t have to be friends with the people you make music with – but it helps not to be enemies.
The annals of music history are filled with instances of bandmates whose relationships turned sour, from Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel to Morrissey and Johnny Marr.
In one of modern music’s bitterest feuds, former Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and David Gilmour have spent years exchanging vitriolic words in the press. This week, Polly Samson, ex-Pink Floyd lyricist and wife of David Gilmour, made unsubstantiated allegations against Waters online.
Waters wrote on a social media account that he was “aware of the incendiary and wildly inaccurate comments made about him on Twitter by Polly Samson which he refutes entirely”, and said he is “currently taking advice as to his position”.
Of course, plenty of great music has been made by people who were at personal loggerheads – just ask Fleetwood Mac.

Politicians have been diversifying their tactics in attempts to engage new audiences in recent years.
This has resulted in the use of music alongside campaigns, speeches and social media videos. Many try to choose a track that makes them relatable, or worse, cool.
As you can imagine, when an artist disagrees with the politics of the person who has used their music, things can get a little ugly.

Former Journey frontman Steve Perry has withdrawn his lawsuit against his ex-bandmates over the trademarks to 20 of the group’s biggest songs.
In Sept. 2022, Perry, who permanently exited the band in 1998, filed legal papers to prevent Freedom Jn LLC — a company headed by Journey’s Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain which holds the Journey trademarks — from using those trademarks on apparel and other merchandise.
Perry claimed that he, Cain and Schon had an agreement that required unanimous consent for any business decision related to the trademarks and that he had not authorized said consent.

Carlos Santana, the Grammy-winning 74-year-old founder of the group Santana, collapsed on stage during a concert in Michigan on Tuesday night. He was taken from the Pine Knob Music Theatre, an outdoor shed 40 miles outside of Detroit, to a nearby hospital in Clarkston. His manager released a statement saying that he is staying at the facility “for observation and is doing well.”

It’s been 11 years since Journey released their last studio record, and for a while it was looking like they’d never get around to making one. “Nobody was really interested in making new music,” Journey founder and guitarist and Neal Schon tells Rolling Stone via Zoom from his California home. “It’s very difficult to get new material played and to get people familiar with it before you go out and play live. Everybody in the band was like, ‘I don’t want to do it.'”

Journey wants to make one thing clear — they aren’t going anywhere.
On Tuesday, the band released their latest single, “Don’t Give Up On Us,” which will appear on the band’s 15th studio album Freedom (out July 8). The record melds their rock sound with sharp synths and a plea for forgiveness.
