Rhea Seehorn and Vince Gilligan are back in action with their new Apple TV+ series, and this time, it is going to be a mind game of the first order. With his cult classic shows that revolved around meth labs and courtrooms, this time around, he is bringing a psychological treat for his viewers, that too in a sci-fi setting.
Hold up before you start imagining a Jetsons kind of backdrop with spaceships flying and people living in a post-apocalyptic world. This is going to be a more human form of sci-fi.

The upcoming Albuquerque-based Apple TV+ series, which is currently untitled, is going to feel similar in its tone while exploring a completely different genre. He describes it as a ‘mild science fiction, ‘ and it will be very interesting for fans to see Rhea Seehorn’s metamorphosis into the new role.

Shout! Studios, the multi-platform media company backed by Oaktree Capital Management, has acquired Gravitas Ventures from Anthem Sports & Entertainment, Inc.
The deal was finalized over the weekend, we hear, with employees at Shout! being notified this morning. It came following rumblings of multiple layoffs at boutique distributor Gravitas. When Deadline reached out to various staff members at the distributor, we were met with bounce-backs, seemingly confirming sudden departures.
The ambition on Shout!’s part is to grow its content portfolio with the acquisition of entertainment companies and their content libraries, while continuing to partner with independent rights owners to monetize content and launch new streaming channels.
Going forward, Shout! Studios and Gravitas Ventures will operate as two distinct brands. “Better Call Saul!” That’s where it all started. That smile. That damned smile. We became fans of Bob Odenkirk ever since that infamous commercial aired in Breaking Bad.
We became fans of Jimmy McGill, aka Saul Goodman, when iconic writers Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould wrote the story for Better Call Saul. However, Bob Odenkirk had some initial doubts about the spin-off.

There was no doubt in the iconic character of Saul Goodman. The man knows how to steal the spotlight whenever he makes an appearance in Breaking Bad. Helping Walter White and Jesse Pinkman run their drug empire, it was time for this attorney to get his own show.

The crime drama genre reached an all-time high when Breaking Bad took over the AMC screens in 2008. What started with no networks showing interest in the project to it being one of the most loved shows out there, this masterpiece has truly come a long way. Born out of the genius of Vince Gilligan, the show depicted how decisions can turn someone’s life upside down.
In Breaking Bad’s case it was Bryan Cranston’s Walter White, who, after his cancer diagnosis, wants to provide for his family. But his plan quickly spirals out of control into a chilling journey of greed and destruction. After this show came its prequel, Better Call Saul, and it’s safe to say that it perfectly captured the essence of its predecessor.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Better Call Saul Season 6.
Across its six-season run, Better Call Saul, the prequel to AMC's beloved Breaking Bad, achieved the rare feat of transcending its predecessor to become an acclaimed series in its own right. As with all prequels, Better Call Saul had the tricky task of not only setting up the events of Breaking Bad, but also bringing the story of Albuquerque's shiftiest lawyer to a satisfying conclusion. Thankfully, showrunners Peter Gould, Vince Gilligan, and their writing team managed to pull it off, and then some. But with nearly three years since the show's conclusion, even the biggest fans of Gilligan's meth-ridden New Mexico might have forgotten exactly what happened to all the series' main characters. Let's take a look at where Better Call Saul leaves its (anti)heroes.

According to a report published today in The Information, Apple TV+, the media streaming service created by the tech giant in 2019, is posting an annual $1 billion loss. While streamer start-ups are expected to struggle at first as they build up their subscriber base and original programming library, they should be headed toward something approaching profitability six years in. For instance, Comcast's Peacock, which launched in 2020, went from losing $2.5 billion in 2022 to $372 million in 2024. That's still a load of red ink, but at least they're losing money in the right direction.
So why is Apple TV+ still hemorrhaging so much cash despite being home to such popular and/or celebrated series as "Severance," "Ted Lasso," "The Morning Show," and "Shrinking?" And why isn't Apple freaking out over it?
It's a bit of a mystery, actually, and it should be a sad commentary on the state of the entertainment industry that...

When the Marvel Cinematic Universe was standing at a precipice, Captain America: Brave New World pulled out a stellar performance at the Box Office to level things up.

"Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan was this year's recipient of the Writers Guild of America's Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement — an annual lifetime achievement award that honors the best of the best in television writing.
In his acceptance speech (reported on by Variety), Gilligan shared some mixed thoughts on the legacy of his most famous work so far. Citing the prevalence of bad guys in the current political landscape, he feels it's time to take a break from antihero protagonists like his own teacher-turned-meth cook lead, Walter "Heisenberg" White (brilliantly played by Bryan Cranston). Gilligan explained:
"Walter White is one of the all time great bad guys. But all things being equal, I think I'd rather be celebrated for creating someone a bit more inspiring. In 2025 it's time to say that out loud, because we are living in an era where bad guys, the real life kind,...

New details have been revealed for the next TV show from Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad. While the title and full plot details have yet to be divulged, Gilligan and the show's star — Better Call Saul fan favorite Rhea Seehorn — are teasing a psychological sci-fi tone that's reminiscent of classic movies like E.T.
The two reunited when Seehorn presented Gilligan with the WGA West's Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement at the WGA Awards on Saturday. Per Deadline, Seehorn spoke at the event about her collaborations with Gilligan, noting, "I can't say enough lovely things about him." Vince Gilligan has been teasing his upcoming sci-fi series for over two years now, but details have been scant. What we do know is that it will reunite him with Rhea Seehorn, who played lawyer/lover Kim Wexler on Better Call Saul. And while we’re still more or less in the dark (as in we don’t even know the title for the Apple TV+ show), it’s clear that the respect between Gilligan and Seehorn is mutual.
As Gilligan was receiving the WGA’s Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award this weekend from Seehorn, it was inevitable that their quasi-secret project would be brought up. As such, Gilligan teased the Apple TV+ show — which is drawing some comparisons to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial — while also showing just how much he appreciates his star. “She’s such a pleasure to work with, I wrote a show for her. For Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, the WGA honorary Paddy Chayefsky Laurel For Television Writing Achievement served as an opportunity to call for action as a “profoundly divided country.”
On Saturday during the 77th annual WGA Awards, the multi-hyphenate hit-making TV juggernaut reflected on the divisive state of the nation and how the current media landscape go hand in hand. In his speech, Gilligan pointed out the irony of making one of the “all time great bad guys,” out of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) while also urging the room of writers that it would be better to be celebrated for “creating someone a bit more inspiring in 2025.”
“We are living in an era where bad guys, the real life kind, are running the market. Bad guys who make their own rules. Bad guys who, no matter what they tell you, are only out for themselves. Who am I talking about?...

Vince Gilligan created one of the most iconic antiheroes of all time: “Breaking Bad” baddie Walter White, as played by Bryan Cranston. But Gilligan created the chemistry teacher-turned-meth-dealing-Heisenberg as a cautionary tale, not someone to aspire to. With so many bad actors now in power in real life, Gilligan says it’s perhaps time to shine the light once again on the good guys.
Accepting the Writers Guild Award’s top writing honor, the Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement, Gilligan told the audience that he really hopes that the next generation of hit TV shows returns to a bit more of an aspirational world where the heroes are good.
“Walter White is one of the all time great bad guys,” Gilligan said. “But all things being equal, I think we I’d rather be celebrated for creating someone a bit more inspiring. In 2025 it’s time to say that out loud,...

As Vince Gilligan reunites with Better Call Saul star Rhea Seehorn on his upcoming Apple TV+ sci-fi series, the pair recently teased some details.
Before presenting Gilligan with the WGA West’s Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement on Saturday, the 3x Emmy-nominated actress raved to Deadline about his “pretty twisted sense of humor” and reuniting with the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator on their new show.
“Doing this new show with him, it’s so much fun the more he and I develop a shorthand of that collaboration and understanding,” she said. “I can’t say enough lovely things about him.”
Gilligan echoed the sentiment about Seehorn, telling us, “She’s such a pleasure to work with, I wrote a show for her. I created this new show for her.”

2 Superhero Performances Steal the Spotlight in the 100 Greatest TV Performances of the 21st Century

100 greatest TV performances of the 21st century, were recently chosen by Variety staff. It includes actors from dramas and comedies, spanning different genres and styles. The selection was limited to scripted shows that premiered after January 1, 2000, meaning some iconic performances from earlier series weren’t included.
To make room for more shows, only one performance per series was allowed. Rather than just a ranking, this list is a celebration of incredible acting and a reminder of the great TV moments we’ve had—and the ones still to come.
What’s intriguing about this list is that it features two performances from superhero shows—a genre often overlooked or considered inferior to more traditional dramas.
Related: 20 Greatest Female Superheroes in History (Marvel & DC)
On number 71 we have Antony Starr as the Homelander from the notable Amazon show ‘The Boys.’ Starr’s performance is widely praised because he makes the character both terrifying and fascinating.

“Meet Sweaty” – The first episode introduces Laurie (voice of Rosie Foss), a 12-year-old softball player whose insecurity manifests into an ever-growing anxiety blob called Sweaty (voice of Jo Firestone) that only she can see.
“Cheating” – Episode four stars bubbly mom Vanessa (voice of Rosa Salazar), whose daughter Rochelle (voice of Milan Elizabeth Ray)—a talented player on the team—is accused of cheating on a test at school. Vanessa insists it didn’t happen—or did it?

Saul Goodman is perhaps one of (if not the most) compelling characters in the world of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. The idea of a prequel series to one of the most critically acclaimed and iconic television shows of all time sounds like a horrible concept on paper. Still, in practice, co-creator Peter Gould's spin-off series Better Call Saul ended up being just as impressively written and acted as the legendary show that preceded it. However, if one television executive had his way, Saul Goodman might have never come into existence.
Entertainment Weekly received an exclusive excerpt from Saul Goodman v. Jimmy McGill, a new book written by TV critic Alan Sepinwall, that offers a comprehensive deep dive into the making of this hit prequel series. In a section of the book, it's revealed that Gould was reluctant when first writing the character's debut in Breaking Bad, and...

The Covid-19 pandemic made life hell for everybody. The industry wasn’t exempted. Shootings came to a standstill. It ain’t easy getting work done when you have to maintain social distancing. While the pandemic was not making it easy, Better Call Saul had other hiccups along the way as well.
The final season of the show was shot when the pandemic was ravaging the world. Shooting had to be planned meticulously. The workforce had to be significantly toned down. And just when the makers of the Breaking Bad spinoff were dealing with all these headaches, they came face-to-face with one of their worst nightmares.

As Better Call Saul headed into its homestretch, fans were abuzz with how the acclaimed Breaking Bad prequel would end. What would happen to Saul-only characters like Kim Wexler and Lalo Salamanca? How much would we see of events from the Breaking Bad years, and how much more time would be spent post-Breaking Bad with Saul’s new identity as Gene from Cinnabon? And, most importantly, exactly when, how, and why would Jimmy McGill, a shady but mostly decent attorney, fully transform into the amoral version of Saul Goodman...

The action-packed first trailer for the third season of Prime Video's acclaimed adult animated series, Invincible, debuted during Ccxp last night, and has now been officially released online (via Toonado.com).

We also get a first look at Oliver Grayson suited-up as Kid-Omni-Man (The Mauler Twins probably shouldn't be taking this youngster quite so lightly), a brand-new villain known as Powerplex, Mark donning his new costume, and much more.

The teaser was quickly taken down, but not before some audio and quite a few high-quality screenshots were posted online.
Like yesterday's poster, it looks like the trailer is going to give away quite a few major plot points, including the fact that Mark Grayson and Cecil Steamman ultimately become enemies after some particularly shady dealings from the latter.
None of this will come as a surprise to anyone who's read the comics, but just in case, here's a spoiler warning.
There are 18 images in total, which you can check out by clicking on the link below.

There was a significant gap (over two years) between the first and second seasons of Prime Video's Invincible, but we had been assured that the wait for season 3 wouldn't be as long, which was recently confirmed via the release of the first teaser.
Invincible will return to our screens on February 6, 2025 - and there will be no pesky mid-season break!
Now, the streamer has released the first official season 3 key art for the adult animated series, and if you're not familiar with the comics, the image counts as a pretty big spoiler!
The recent teaser saw a now 19-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) meeting with Cecil Stedman (Walton Goggins) in a café in a similar set-up to the season 2 teaser with Allen the Alien. Cecil is not happy (for a change) with Mark taking a lengthy break from crime-fighting, and tells the young hero that he needs more training if...

One of the stars of Better Call Saul auditioned for Suits years before the Breaking Bad prequel premiered. Although both Suits and Better Call Saul could be classified as legal dramas, they couldn't be more different. Suits was a procedural with serialized elements, having the courtroom at its center. It's a premise that lends itself to this style, as is the case with the upcoming Suits: LA that's set to premiere on NBC on February 23. A bit darker, with a new cast, the spinoff will nonetheless follow a bit of an established formula.
Better Call Saul did feature a number of cases and firms, but it was always more of a character study that demonstrated how the law could shift and wobble depending on the creativity and morality of the person practicing it. But it was far less interested in the specifics of the law and the day-to-day than other legal dramas,...

Vince Gilligan created many nuanced characters for his show Better Call Saul and these complex characters came with a lot of grey shade. Howard Hamlin, the CEO of Hhm, was one such character whom viewers initially considered one of the antagonists of the series. However, as the series progressed, Howard showed us that he was more than the smug and privileged lawyer he was portrayed to be.

Fans came to realize that he was just another ordinary human, largely misunderstood by both people on and off-screen. Howard’s final fate was to become a pawn in the destructive scheme of Jimmy McGill and Kim Wexler. At the end of all the scheming against him, not only was the innocent Howard’s reputation ruined but he was also killed off mercilessly.

Nowadays, it is not too uncommon for popular TV programs to inspire spinoff shows. These new series, though they do have self-contained stories of their own, typically feature characters or settings that appeared in the previous shows that inspired them. What is rarer, however, is when the spinoff manages to maintain the same level of quality as the original. Far too often, TV networks merely try to capitalize on the preexisting popularity of a character or setting, and fail to deliver entertaining stories of their own.
Fortunately, some of the best spinoffs do manage to knock it out of the park, using preexisting characters but still managing to create inventive new storylines that captivate their viewers in new, exciting ways. These shows not only stand out as excellent programs on their own, but even manage to attract new viewers to the original series as well. While there will always be...

Breaking Bad is considered one of the greatest television series of all time, and miraculously, creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould were able to have lightning strike twice with their spinoff hit show, Better Call Saul. Following the life of criminal lawyer Jimmy McGill before he donned the flashy suits and questionable legal choices, Bob Odenkirk stars alongside several other returning cast members in a show that made the wider Breaking Bad story even more incredible. Some fans argue that Better Call Saul is even better than the original show. But some viewers new to the Breaking Bad universe aren't sure whether they should start with the prequel, which is chronologically first, or the original series, which came out first.
Even though Better Call Saul is a follow-up to the original masterpiece, its not hard for new fans to enjoy the show. Its brilliant storytelling, realistically layered characters, and gray...

The world of Breaking Bad gave fans refuge for a long time from the acres of bad television that occupied the contemporary atmosphere. When it ended, the desert druglords left behind a legacy to be carried on by Saul Goodman through Better Call Saul. Together, the two series forever revolutionized television drama.

It wasn’t simply Vince Gilligan’s originality that made the series so radically brilliant. Both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul seized our attention and held our imaginations captive despite being heavily grounded, gritty, and closely bound to reality.
It doesn’t come as a surprise that Gilligan wanted to take his artistic creativity a step further and make the two worlds of Heisenberg and Saul Goodman clash in a wild crossover episode.

There are a lot of crime shows which don't have time for relationship drama, but some great shows have been able to balance these two themes. Any genre of TV show can have a dash of romance added to it, since relationships are a near-universal human experience that so often reflects who people are. Crime shows usually have romantic subplots to humanize their characters and to raise the emotional stakes.
The best crime shows can make room for romance without either letting it crowd out the action or making it seem unnecessary. Romance can be used as comic relief in more lighthearted shows like Only Murders in the Building and Castle, but it can also reflect dark truths about the characters, just as it does in Justified and Fargo. For all these reasons and more, there's no shortage of crime shows with romance running through them.
