- The daughter of a retired British army officer, she yearned to be a concert pianist and only found out from her music teacher after ten years of hard study that this was never going to happen.
- She was awarded the 'Laurence Olivier (I)' Theatre Award in 1982 (1981 season) for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in "Present Laughter".
