The Grammy Award for Record of the Year goes to the artists, producers, engineers and mixers behind the year’s best recording. So who will win when awards are handed out in 2021? The Grammy eligibility period used to be a little different. It previously ran from October 1 through September 30, but the recording academy shifted everything by a month as a result of the Oscars decision to hold their 2020 Oscars in early February, which had been the Grammys’ turf. So music’s biggest night moved to January and it tweaked its calendar. That means a lot of 2021’s major contenders had already been released by the time the 2020 awards were handed out.

The Hollywood Music in Media Awards, known for recognizing music in film, TV, video games commercials and trailers, announced its 2019 nominees. Among the nominated films are “Joker” (composer Hildur Guðnadóttir is pictured), “Little Women,” “Us,” “Rocketman” and more.

Past honorees include Ludwig Goransson (“Black Panther”), Alexandre Desplat (“Shape of Water”), songs from “La La Land” and “A Star is Born.”

For the 10th anniversary concert & gala, the organization will host past winners. In addition to Jakob Dylan (“The Wallflowers”) and Kris Bowers (“Green Book”), composers and songwriters from The Society of Composers & Lyricists, The Alliance of Female Composers and the Guild of Music Supervisors will present and/or perform.

With over 500 submissions globally, Hmma nominations are selected by an advisory board and selection committee that includes journalists, music executives and music-media industry professionals comprised of select members of the Society of Composers and Lyricists, Television Academy, the AMPAS Music Branch and Naras.

As Homer Simpson once toasted, “To alcohol: the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.” Thomas Rhett echoes part of that sentiment in his celebratory new song “Beer Can’t Fix,” a duet with Jon Pardi. It’s the latest track to be released off Rhett’s upcoming album Center Point Road.

“Ain’t nothing that a beer can’t fix/ain’t no pain it can’t wash away/from the moment that it hits your lips/makes those clouds look a little less gray,” sings Rhett in the chorus.

Thomas Rhett looks back fondly on the vehicle that transported him into adulthood in “That Old Truck,” the latest release from his upcoming album Center Point Road. The follow-up to Rhett’s 2017 release Life Changes, Center Point Road will be available May 31st.

A gentle, mostly acoustic number that veers off from the dance-inflected country-pop of Rhett’s current single “Look What God Gave Her,” “That Old Truck” — penned by Rhett with Julian Bunetta, Kamron Kimbro and Ryan Tedder — offers up a series of vivid snapshots from Rhett’s coming of age.
