This builds on deals already secured in France with independent distributor Tamasa and upscale film-tv SVOD platform Filmin in Spain.
The animated feature centers on Zelma (Dagmara Domińczyk) confronting society’s expectations of her as she grows from being a girl into womanhood. Baumane mixes music, absurdism, and scientific explanation to concoct a story of female rebellion.
The film was written and directed by Signe Baumane and stars Dagmara Domińczyk, of “Succession” fame, Stephen Lang, Storm Large, and “Stranger Things” star, Matthew Modine.
It marks a bullish fall period of deals for Warsaw based New Europe Film Sales, with Variety also able to announce the sale of Blanquita to ASC for France.

The 16th season of “America’s Got Talent” officially entered the final stage of competition — the live shows — on Tuesday, August 10. For three weeks, three groups of 12 performed in the quarterfinals for America’s votes. Now the “AGT” 2021 cycle is in the midst of the two-week semifinals round, with 11 acts taking the stage both weeks at the Dolby Theatre. The Season 16 finale is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14 (performance show) and Wednesday, September 15 (results show).
The Top 36 quarterfinalists, chosen by the judges in secret, performed on Tuesday nights for three weeks. America voted for their favorite contestants each time, and then seven acts from each group advanced to the semifinals. That left 21 acts still in the competition, with the judges — Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara — then picking Beyond Belief Dance Company as their wildcard to complete the Top 22.

His closest competitor was wildcard singer Storm Large, who lost the judges’ save to UniCircle Flow by only one vote. Here are the complete poll results:

31% — Storm Large (singer)
21% — Keith Apicary (dancer)
5% — Anica (singer)
2% — The Curtis Family C-Notes (band)

Is Simon Cowell to blame for Klek’s early elimination? Remember, the cranky British judge pushed his red X during the silent magician’s live performance because he felt it was taking too long to get going.

“America’s Got Talent” revealed America’s Wildcard winner on Tuesday’s show, with the return a previously eliminated contestant who beat out several others for a chance at redemption: Storm Large.
The singer was awarded her comeback through the first-ever Peacock competition special “AGT: America’s Wildcard,” which allowed viewers to vote between these five acts, which didn’t make it through Judge Cuts: singers Dylan Zangwill, Storm Large, Matt Mauser, magician Patrick Kun and comedian Mike Goodwin.

On August 2, “America’s Got Talent” fans were saddened to learn that Nightbirde, Simon Cowell‘s Golden Buzzer and one of the front-runners to win Season 16, had to withdraw from the competition because of her battle with cancer. “Since my audition, my health has taken a turn for the worse and the fight with cancer is demanding all of my energy and attention,” she wrote at the time. “I am so sad to announce that I won’t be able to continue forward on this season.” Since the “AGT” producers had already planned on Nightbirde taking up one of the Top 36 live show performances, they had a decision to make: leave her spot open or fill it with a wildcard? They chose the latter.
Two weeks ago, “AGT: America’s Wildcard” aired on the Peacock network, with five also-rans duking it out for viewers’ votes. They were: singer Dylan Zangwill, magician Patrick Kun,...

Has NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” found its next singing superstar? Storm Large — yes, that’s her real name — wowed the judges during Tuesday’s third episode of Season 16 by putting a sultry rock ‘n’ roll twist on Frank Sinatra‘s “I Got You Under My Skin.” The 51-year-old musician has been working in the industry for 30 years, but still has yet to become a household name. After previously competing on CBS’s “Rock Star: Supernova,” Storm now calls auditioning for “AGT” an “enormous, terrifying opportunity.” Watch the video above.
Before she began singing, Simon Cowell asked her if they’d ever met before. Storm quickly joked, “We were so young, Simon. Let’s not bring that up.” Hmm, perhaps the judge saw her on “Rock Star: Supernova,” where she came in fifth place, or during her 2006 appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”?

The third Golden Buzzer of America’s Got Talent Season 16 went to an act that Simon Cowell called “one of the most extraordinary things” he’s seen in all his years as a judge — yet he wasn’t the one who smashed the button.
This week’s lucky act was World Taekwondo, a co-ed group of martial artists who wowed the judges with a synchronized symphony of flips, high kicks and precision. The entire panel was on the edge of its collective seat for the entire audition, and no could say enough good things about the show-stopping display.

Parenting and mental illness collide in the upcoming dramedy "Infinitely Polar Bear," a very personal story for the film's writer/director Maya Forbes, who based it on her own life. And in addition to nabbing two strong actors for the movie, with Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana leading the story about a manic depressive man trying to raise his children and maintain his relationship with his wife, Forbes has also put together a soundtrack to match the moods and emotions conjured in her film. And one call she made was to her sister China Forbes, frontperson for Pink Martini. “I wrote ‘The Northern Line’ in a London hotel room on my son's toy ukulele,” Forbes said of her contribution of an exclusive track. “Maya asked me to write a song about a train. When you walk into a film titled Big Ass Spider, you should simultaneously know what to expect – yet have no idea what kind of insanity awaits. B-Movies are often hit and miss because replicating unintentional comedy proves to be a frequently underestimated task, and we’ve already seen channels like SyFy over-bloat and genetically alter every animal in the book to create killer Saturday night features. There’s been Ice Spiders, Camel Spiders, Spiders 3D, Jungle Spiders – but has there ever been a Big Ass Spider?! I mean, yeah, we’ve seen “big ass” spiders, but have you seen The Big Ass Spider?! To say you get what you pay for is an understatement with Mike Mendez’s Big Ass Spider, but to write it off as yet another low-budget schlock-fest would also be a disservice – unless a gigantic CGI spider skewering park-goers like human shish kabobs doesn’t sound all that appealing to you.

There are two ways to go about creating a movie that's so-bad-it's-good (or "good-bad" as I'll refer to them from here on). In its pure form, a filmmaker lacks the competence, awareness, and funds to create a good movie. A good-bad movie can also be created if the filmmaker knowingly sets out to create schlock but has the talent and ambition to surprise the audience with the outlandishness of the premise despite the limited resources. Big Ass Spider! attempts to be the latter, but director Mike Mendez lacks the requisite ability and drive to push his movie past the promise of its B-movie title. The result is the worst kind of good-bad movie where the filmmaker cynically creates a proposition where he thinks he can't lose. The movie begins with an excellent opening where pest exterminator Alex Mathis (Greg Grunberg) awakens off the ground to see mayhem all around him.

At the beginning of James Westby's “Rid of Me,” a frowning, diminutive thirty-something woman—rendered alarmingly feline by bursts of Goth makeup—and an icy blonde princess stride past each other, in slow motion, in a supermarket. “You bitch,” the blonde mutters under her breath. Upon which, the Goth girl, without breaking a sweat, jams her hands down her skirt and smears menstrual blood all over the blonde's face.
This prologue is, like much of the rest of “Rid of Me,” jarringly funny yet punishingly shrill. Westby has a great deal of malicious, playful energy; his sheer joy at making this movie electrifies almost every frame. But though you share in his enthusiasm at times, Westby is ultimately hampered by the same hyperkinetic overconfidence that marred “Run Lola Run” and similar movies; it confuses breathlessness with boldness. The movie needs a massive dose of Ritalin.
