Guy Ritchie’s new Sherlock Holmes television series titled “Young Sherlock” has found its Mycroft Holmes. Max Irons will play the role of the elder Holmes brother in the Amazon Prime Video show. Mycroft is Sherlock’s sibling who has already established the Diogenes Club in London. Little is known about Irons’ portrayal of the character so far, but it suggests Mycroft will play an important part in the story.

The series will follow the renowned detective Sherlock Holmes during his university years at Oxford. Hero Fiennes Tiffin was previously cast as the young Sherlock Holmes. Now 19 years old, he becomes embroiled in a murder mystery that threatens his freedom. Uncovering a vast conspiracy in the process, Sherlock begins to hone the observational skills that made him famous.

Prime Video didn't have to go far to find a key cast member for their new Young Sherlock series. They just had to raid the cast of one of their other shows. According to an exclusive report by Variety, Dnal Finn has been cast to play James Moriarty, Holmes' iconic nemesis, in Guy Ritchie's series about the early days of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective. Finn currently stars in Prime Video's fantasy series The Wheel of Time.

Guy Ritchie will direct and executive produce the series, which will be based on Andy Lane's Young Sherlock Holmes novel series. Hero Fiennes Tiffin will portray Holmes. Prime Video provided this synopsis for the series:

"With all the wit and charm of Guy Ritchies Sherlock Holmes features, Young Sherlock will be an irreverent, action-packed origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyles beloved detective in an explosive re-imagining of this iconic character.

Young Sherlock marks Finn's second series for Prime Video after The Wheel of Time, where he has starred as Mat Cauthon since Season 2. A new report from Deadline revealed that Joseph Fiennes and Natascha McElhone will play Silas and Cordelia Holmes, the parents of Sherlock, respectively, in the upcoming Young Sherlock series. Per Variety, Guy Ritchie will direct and executive produce the Young Sherlock Holmes series, which will consist of eight episodes. In the role of Sherlock Holmes, the series will star Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who just worked with Ritchie on the new action movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Tiffin is also known for playing young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince with other roles including The Woman King, The Loneliest Boy in the World, and the After franchise.
