“Murder Company” was written by Jesse Mittelstadt (“Altitude”) and directed by Shane Dax Taylor (“The Best Man”). The genre-bending feature directed by Daytime Emmy winner Timothy Woodward Jr. follows a bride-to-be (Burn) who, after running away on her wedding day, must fight for survival against her ex-fiancé’s seven deadly groomsmen. In the ultimate horror showdown, the groomsmen soon discover that she has no intention of going back to the life she left behind.

Also starring Ser’Darius Blain (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), D.Y. Sao (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Neb Chupin (Mindcage) and Pancho Moler (3 from Hell), the film is based on a script written by Chad Law (Black Water) and Shane Dax Taylor (Isolation).

The Best Man brings a new spin to the classic action formula, evoking the single-location tension of movies like Die Hard while swapping out a tall office building for a spacious desert resort. The film tells the story of a wedding gone wrong; a group of mercenaries crash the event, only to find that many of the guests are former Special Ops soldiers. The film was directed by Shane Dax Taylor, who also put his own mark on the screenplay by C. Alec Rossel and story by Daniel Zirilli.

For the central character of Anders, Taylor turned to an action legend, enlisting Dolph Lundgren for the role. The Best Man opens with a rescue mission as a group of mercenaries rescue an American woman kidnapped in Mexico. Despite being much better equipped than the kidnappers they take casualties including Axel who take a bullet to the skull and is left for dead. A year later that woman, Brook, is marrying Cal, one of the men who saved her. His cousin Bradley is the best man and another of the crew, Anders is also going to be there.

Brook’s father has rented a huge, remote resort for the ceremony, but they may have wished they chose a more urban location when a team of heavily armed wedding crashers show up.

Saban Films has acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to “American Murderer,” a new thriller with Tom Pelphrey, Ryan Phillippe, Idina Menzel, and Jacki Weaver. The film is the debut feature of director and writer Matthew Gentile. Saban Films is planning an October 2022 release.

In the film, the anonymous caller threatens to kill the host’s entire family while he is on air. To save loved ones, the radio host has to play a survival game over the course of one night and the only way to win is to find out the identity of the criminal.

The film is director, writer and producer Romuald Boulanger’s second feature following his 2020 debut Connectés.

The deal struck with XYZ Films is for North American, UK and Ireland rights, and the pic will now get a day-and-day release in the U.S later this year.
