Imagine an American Idol with Jennifer Lopez rocking a powder-blue Amish dress from the Pennsylvania Dutch Collection, Ryan Seacrest losing his cool and an audience of SwayBots successfully moving in time with the music.

None of those signs of an impending apocalypse occurred on tonight’s Season 14 Top 12 announcement/performance episode, but the hour was not without its share of whopping surprises.

There were definitely some surprises in last week's first Top 24 eliminations. One week, Trevor Douglas was my pick to win the whole thing. The next week? Poof. Gone. One week, it seemed like everybody hated Maddie Walker for taking Rachael Hallack's place in the Top 24. The next week? Bam! Embraced by America despite an utterly mediocre performance. On Wednesday (March 11) night, "American Idol" is unveiling our Top 12 Finalists. How will the lucky singers be revealed? Last week, the "American Idol" Top 24 performed over two chaotically edited nights.  This week, we're going to apparently be eliminating eight people, while also showcasing eight performances per night leading up to eliminations next week. And Aretha Franklin's going to be involved in some way. Click through and follow along! 7:59 p.m. Et. Per Ryan Seacrest's twitter, eight guys will get called to perform. Blood flowed like it was spilling forth from The Shining‘s elevator doors on Thursday night’s installment of American Idol — except there was no need to cover your eyes in horror.

The carnage, as it turns out, was mostly self-induced. “Big Ron” Wilson threw shade at band leader Rickey Minor like he’d bumped his head and woke up channeling Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls. Sorry for the three "American Idol" recaps I missed the past two weeks. The combination of film responsibilities at the Sundance Film Festival and predictably atrocious wifi at the Sundance Film Festival had me casting aside some of my TV responsibilities.  But I'm back and I'm all caught up after rushing through three "Idol" episodes in around 90 minutes over the weekend. True confession: I may be the only person in the United States who dramatically slid down a wall and let out a tortured “Nooooooo!!!!” after learning that American Idol will eventually cut back to one night a week midway through Season 14.

American Cinema Editors (Ace) today announced nominations for the 64th Annual Ace Eddie Awards recognizing outstanding editing in ten categories of film, television and documentaries. Winners will be revealed during Ace’s annual black-tie awards ceremony on Friday, February 7, 2014 in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Ace Eddie Awards is considered an integral precursor to the Oscars. No film has won Best Picture at the Oscars without also having received at least a Best Editing nomination since Ordinary People in 1981. Since the Ace membership boasts a very high crossover within its membership of Academy members, it represents a very accurate bellwether for the eventual Oscar outcome.

Being a first time mother is difficult -- but being one while you balance a successful music career and a mentoring role on one of the country’s most popular singing competitions, is what Shakira calls “deliciously overwhelming.”

On Monday, the Colombian superstar and fellow “The Voice” coaches -- Usher, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton -- sat down with Today’s Al Roker to talk about the show’s success, the chemistry on set, and the presence of baby Milan during the taping of NBC’s hit talent competition. And while motherhood may be delicious for Shak, she insisted that having to send home some of the artists on her team during the Battle Rounds has been ‘bittersweet.’

“You have the opportunity to watch the results of all the hard work and to see how much progress your artists have made, or not made,” Shak told Roker.

The ladies stole the show for the second night in a row on The Voice Tuesday. And an epic steal showdown between coaches Adam Levine and Usher ensured that two of the youngest singers in the competition – unassuming singer-songwriter Caroline Glaser, 18, and wholesome high school country powerhouse Danielle Bradbery, 16 – would not go home.

Indeed, during Night 2 of The Voice‘s Season 4 Battle Rounds, the “U Got It Bad” singer took a stern approach to his coaching role, getting offended when an underperforming contestant dared to laugh mid-rehearsal. “What’s funny?” “Why you smilin’?” “This is funny to you?” Usher asked with increasing levels of irritation.

Another reason not to make Usher angry? Dude is responsible for discovering Justin Bieber, so if you’re an aspiring music star/selfie-Tweeter, it’s probably best to stay on his good side anyhow.

Diva-holics, relax! What Season 4 of NBC’s The Voice lacks in Christina Aguilera’s extroverted decolletage, flying-saucer hats and impromptu “this is how it’s done” vocal displays, has already been made up for with Shakira’s harmonica riffs, inspirational quips (“faith is the engine!”) and killer Blake Shelton impression.

The Ben Affleck film was the big winner at the recently concluded 63rd Annual Ace Eddie Awards honoring outstanding editing in nine categories of film, television, and documentaries. We’ve only just had our first real look at Pixar’s Brave with the unveiling of the poster yesterday and now we’ve got an eyeful of the gorgeous character designs for Mark Andrew’s debut feature.

The four images below are of Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), the delightly twisted face of The Wise Woman (Blackadder fans fill in your own punchline here) who is voiced by Julie Walters, the flame haired Princess Merida (Kelly MacDonald) and finally we have Emma Thompson’s character Queen Elinor. Sadly we have to wait until the 17th of August next year to see this one come together.

Pixar should feel pretty comfortable doing what they'd like from atop their movie studio throne -- over 15 years they've pocketed 26 Academy Awards and critic raves across the board -- but even they like a challenge. For their next project, the animation masterminds have taken a page from Papa Disney's playbook, tackling their very first fairy tale, "Brave."

Entertainment Weekly has a first look at production art for Pixar's 13th film, which is set in the Scottish Highlands and tells the tale of a princess, Merida, who defies her parents' sacred rituals and sends the kingdom into a shambles.

The details of Merida's adventure are scarce, but we do know that she's a skilled archer and will run into a host of characters. Included are a Wise Woman, who will grant her a important wish, and a couple of funny Lords who live in the kingdom. When it was first announced...

The American Cinema Editors (Ace) just held their annual awards ceremony. Michael Kahn received the lifetime achievement award presented by Steven Spielberg. As with most lifetime achievement awards, the audience wash shown a highlight reel of the master editor’s many credits.

Over the weekend the American Cinema Editors (Ace) held their annual awards, where The Social Network, Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3 took honors for feature editing in the dramatic, comedy/musical and animated categories. But the highlight of the night may have been the lifetime achievement award given to Michael Kahn, presented by Steven Spielberg. That award was accompanied by a reel highlighting the master editor's many credits, and in the spirit of celebrating someone who has been an invaluable but often invisible contributor to many of the films we love, we present the highlight reel after the break. Mr. Kahn's long collaboration with Steven Spielberg dominates this reel, but there are a handful of other major films represented here, too. In the feature category for Musical or Comedy, Chris Lebenzon of "Alice in Wonderland" took home the trophy, winning over "Easy A," "The Kids Are All Right," "Made in Dagenham," and "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World."

In the Best Edited Animated Featuer Film category, surprise, surprise, "Toy Story 3" won over "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Despicable Me."

Tom Fulford & Chris King of "Exit Through the Gift Shop" won for Best Edited Documentary beating "Inside Job" and "Waiting for Superman."

The American Cinema Editors handed out their “Eddie Awards” and with no surprise The Social Network was named the best edited feature-length drama. Alice in Wonderland won in the comedy/musical category, Toy Story 3 in the animated category and finally Exit Through the Gift Shop won in the documentary category. Modern Family, The Walking Dead, Treme, and Temple Grandin were awarded as the best edited programs on television last year.

The Cinema Audio Society gave their top film award to True Grit while Boardwalk Empire came out the big winner in television.

Two subsets of Hollywood's production crews chimed in last night on the best film and television of 2010. The American Cinema Editors handed out their adorably named Eddie Awards with a respectable degree of specialization. The Social Network was named the best edited feature-length drama -- Alice in Wonderland, Toy Story 3, and Exit Through the Gift Shop won in the comedy/musical, animated, and documentary categories respectively. Modern Family, The Walking Dead, Treme, and Temple Grandin were deemed the best edited programs on television last year.
