For starters, Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired Red Sonja, a new feature film adaptation of the comic books. A theatrical release is being planned here in the U.S. later this year.

On Wednesday, March 26, ComicBook reported that the upcoming pic had just received its official MPA rating, confirming that it will indeed be out on screens soon. Red Sonja (2025) is rated R for “strong/bloody violence,”with the site naming Samuel Goldwyn Films, LLC as its U.S. distributor, a new development for the film. The upcoming “Red Sonja" live-action feature, directed by M.J. Bassett ("Solomon Kane"), based on Robert E. Howard's character 'Red Sonya of Rogatino', reimagined in 1973 by writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics, stars Matilda Lutz, Wallis Day, Robert Sheehan, Michael Bisping, Martyn Ford, Eliza Matengu, Manal El Feitury and Katrina Durden:

Originally, Robert E. Howard's 'Sonya of Rugantino', was a female pirate from the 16th century, debuting in Howard's short story "The Shadow of the Vulture" in "Magic Carpet" magazine (1934).

Writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Barry Windsor-Smith reworked the character in 1973, for Marvel Comics "Conan the Barbarian #23, transposing the timeline to Howard's 'Hyborian Age'.

Aside from an initial promo image and a behind-the-scenes photo, we haven't seen very much from Millennium Films' Red Sonja reboot starring Matilda Lutz, and are still awaiting a first teaser trailer.

However, we do finally have some positive updates on the project.

Deadline reports that Samuel Goldwyn Films will handle U.S. distribution for the movie, which is set to hit theaters later this year. The site has also shared a first official look at Lutz in full costume as the She-Devil with a Sword.

The official synopsis reads: "Captured. Chained. Forced to fight for survival. Red Sonja must battle her way through the blood-soaked pits of a tyrant’s empire and rally an army of outcasts to reclaim her freedom and take down Dragan and his ruthless bride, Dark Annisia."

The movie has also been given an R rating for "Strong, Bloody Violence."

Samuel Goldwyn Seizes U.

Deadline reports that Samuel Goldwyn Films have snagged the U.S. distribution rights to Red Sonja, with the reboot looking to hit theaters later this year. A first-look image from Red Sonja was also released, depicting Matilda Lutz in full costume, metal bikini and all.

The description reads: “Captured. Chained. Forced to fight for survival. Red Sonja must battle her way through the blood-soaked pits of a tyrant’s empire and rally an army of outcasts to reclaim her freedom and take down Dragan and his ruthless bride, Dark Annisia.” In addition to Lutz, Red Sonja also stars Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy), Wallis Day (Batwoman), Martyn Ford (Those About to Die), Michael Bisping (Den of Thieves), with Phillip Winchester (Strike Back) and Trevor Eve (Waking the Dead).

The film was recently given an R-rating for “strong/bloody violence.“

The Leverage Crew is back to fight for the little guy. Today, Prime Video revealed the premiere date and first look for Leverage: Redemption Season 3.

The third installment of the drama will consist of 10 episodes with the first three episodes premiering April 17, and new episodes releasing every Thursday. Signature Entertainment acquired the rights to release the Red Sonja reboot in the UK and Ireland. Per Deadline, the film will premiere in late 2025 after spending two years in post-production. "Red Sonja epitomizes the kind of film we're looking for at Signature – an epic story in a fantasy-laden world with a strong commercial feel to its execution, which made it immediately appealing to us," Signature Entertainment's Acquisitions Manager Begüm Kayacan Parodi said. "We're looking forward to introducing UK and Irish audiences to Matilda Lutz's sword-swinging huntress later this year." Production company Millennium Media is still looking for a distributor for Red Sonja in international markets.

It’s a little hard to say how popular the series Trailer Park Boys is. It went for twelve seasons and this is the fourth movie spin-off, all in the space of over twenty years. Not many shows have been quite as prolific as that. But. I have met very few people who have watched the show and I see very little talk about it online. I am a fan of the show and have been for a good while. Although in truth, it’s been a long time since I’ve opened up my DVD boxset. When I discovered a new movie was out though, I jumped at the chance to see it.

2024 had a lot of great sci-fi and fantasy TV shows, but sadly, a few that let viewers down!

Over the past 12 months, fans got to enjoy a lot of genre TV, from returning hits like The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon to great new shows like Fallout. There were also a few duds here and there, many of which came and went without much buzz. Not all of these shows were bad, some many were disappointing. Some were parts of franchies that came up short and others were new efforts that landed with a thud.

Here at the end of the year, we're remembering the 10 biggest sci-fi/fantasy TV shows that let people down. Not every show can be a winner. Just ask fans of these series:

The idea of the shy Hobbit sharing anything other than a solemn gaze with the ethereal Elf Queen would’ve turned Middle-earth into a soap opera. Thankfully, Jackson swooped in like Gandalf at dawn to save the day, sparing fans (and Tolkien’s legacy) from one truly questionable scene.

The final season of The Umbrella Academy was divisive among fans for many reasons, but one element in particular sparked major controversy: the romance between Aiden Gallagher's Five and Ritu Arya's Lila. The Peter Jackson penned Mortal Engines is making its way to Tubi for the new year.

Per Tubi, 2018's Mortal Engines is set to join the streaming platform's library of free films and television shows on January 1. This will see Mortal Engines become part of the Tubi catalog alongside other fan-favorite sci-fi and fantasy films, including 1985's The Goonies and 2015's Jupiter Ascending, both of which will be making the move to the platform on the same day.

Aside from an initial promo image and a behind-the-scenes photo, we haven't seen very much from Millennium Films' Red Sonja reboot, but some snippets of footage from the movie have now leaked online.

Though it's only a few seconds long, the clip shows Revenge star Matilda Lutz in full costume as the She-Devil with a Sword as she does battle against a horde of ferocious foes. Right at the end, we also catch a glimpse of some kind of horned reptilian-looking monster in chains.

As you can see, Lutz's armour is pretty faithful to the later comic book depictions of the character (the skimpy chain-mail bikini was never gonna happen), and she also appears to be sporting Sonja's signature face-paint.

Following The Hunger Games' conclusion in 2015, there was a rush to find the next young adult franchise that could replicate its success. Mortal Engines was supposed to be that franchise, but it was released too little too late. Despite its stunning visual effects and world-building, Mortal Engines received mixed reviews. When the movie premiered, it only made $7.5 million domestically on its opening weekend (via Box Office Mojo).

UK-based sales firm Blue Eyes Film and Distribution has acquired international sales rights to mockumentary Standing On The Shoulders Of Kitties: The Bubbles And The Shitrockers Story.

Blue Eyes will also release the film on December 6 in cinemas in the UK and Ireland, coinciding with its North American release through Blue Fox Entertainment.

Blue Fox Entertainment and Blue Fox Canada have picked up North American digital and theatrical rights for comedy “Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties: The Bubbles and the Shitrockers Story.”

Featuring Mike Smith as Bubbles, Robb Wells as Ricky, John Paul Tremblay as Julian, and Patrick Roach as Randy, the movie is a spinoff of the popular long-running Canadian show “Trailer Park Boys,” which has 16 seasons available for streaming on Netflix. Blue Fox plans to release the movie nationwide in cinemas, though dates have yet to be announced.

A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production in 2022 with director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) at the helm. Before Bassett signed on, the project had passed through the hands of directors Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, Bryan Singer, and Joey Soloway, with Hannah John-Kamen, Rose McGowan, and Amber Heard being considered for the lead role. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, and while we still don’t know when we’ll get to see her version of the title character in action, a set pic has just arrived online to give us a look at a blood spattered Lutz wearing a version of the character’s iconic bikini armor.
