The Lincoln Lawyer has never been short on sharp suits, sharper comebacks, and characters who know how to throw down in a courtroom without breaking a sweat. Andrea Freeman, played by the ever-fierce Yaya DaCosta, was one of those rare TV prosecutors who didn’t just show up, she owned the room. Cool, calculated, and allergic to Mickey Haller’s charm, she brought just the right amount of sass and steel to every legal showdown.

But as season 4 dropped, something, or rather someone, was missing. No opening arguments, no quiet glares from across the aisle. The Lincoln Lawyer, starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, is based on a series of novels by American crime-fiction author Michael Connelly. The novels and show follow the titular "Lincoln Lawyer" Mickey Holler, an L.A.-based defense attorney who’s not against bending the rules to get a win.

Holler isn’t a model of ethical virtue when it comes to the law, but he’s helped put more than a few bad men behind bars and stopped good ones from ending up there. Season 4 seems to be the biggest change in the series to date, with Holler himself facing the prospect of prison. It looks like he’ll be doing so without a key cast member who plays Holler’s love interest. Yaya DaCosta will not be back as Andrea Freeman in Season 4, per TV Line.

Netflix giveth, but they also taketh away. After missing most of the show’s third season, Neve Campbell will be returning as a series regular for the show’s recently confirmed fourth season. However, it seems another series regular who played a key role in the show’s last two seasons won’t be returning as a series regular for season 4… or possibly at all.

According to a new report from TVLine, actress Yaya DaCosta is not expected to be part of The Lincoln Lawyer season 4; however, it’s important to note that the decision has nothing to do with the return of Campbell and her character. And perhaps we should have seen this coming as her name was conspicuously missing from the initial season 4 cast list released by Netflix when announcing the season.

With Netflix recently renewing The Lincoln Lawyer for another season, it has already been confirmed that Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will fully return as L.A.’s finest criminal defense attorney, Mickey Haller. The cast list also included a surprising addition in the form of Neve Campbell, but confirmed the exit of another central star, Yaya DaCosta, as revealed by TVLine. DaCosta portrays the extraordinary prosecutor Andrea “Andy” Freeman in the legal drama, who later becomes Mickey’s lover and is promoted to the main cast in Season 3.

Yaya DaCosta sadly will not be back for the upcoming fourth season of The Lincoln Lawyer.

The 42-year-old actress, best known for playing April Sexton on Chicago Med, joined the cast of the Netflix legal drama in season two.

Yaya had a recurring status in season two as Andrea “Andy” Freemann, a criminal prosecutor and later a love interest for Mickey. She was bumped to series regular status for season three, but an insider says she won’t return for season four.
