Somebody Somewhere might be over but, somehow, someday, it might return.
After the HBO series aired its third and final season last year, co-creators Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen said they were “so happy with how it landed” but “would love” a chance to bring it back.
“A show like us, it’s a miracle to get three seasons. That said, we would keep on doing it for seven, eight or nine seasons,” Thureen told The Av Club. “These characters live on for us, and I think that it’s always like a slice of life, and a moment in time, and so we’re proud of this moment and I think that we’d love an opportunity to come back to them in the future.”
Bos added, “And maybe we will.”

Every year there is a deluge of quality television viewers are blessed to watch, but even the most time-conscious person is going to let a few great series slip through the cracks unwatched.
Everyone and their dog checked into shows like “House of the Dragon,” “Yellowstone,” Baby Reindeer,” and “Shōgun” but with so much on offer a lot of greats were left underviewed. The holidays are the perfect time to look back and catch up on a new binge before starting fresh in the new year.

The feel-good dramedy series wrapped up its three-season run this past weekend, but there are plenty of other shows to watch next.
Pour out one last tiny ‘tini or margarini for TV’s best feel-good series. This past Sunday, Dec. 8, HBO’s “Somebody Somewhere,” starring Bridget Everett, finished airing its third and final season. Everett starred as Sam, a woman in her 40s who returns to her hometown of Manhattan, Kansas, to navigate the death of her sister, where she finds a new and renewed community amongst her family and friends.
Few shows in recent memory have felt as warm and authentic as “Somebody Somewhere,” which also co-starred Jeff Hiller, Mary Catherine Garrison, Murray Hill, and more, never shying away from sadness or loneliness but instead embracing it with empathy toward being alive.

In the end, it was all about found family — well, found family and Miley Cyrus. The third and final season of HBO’s “Somebody Somewhere” concluded December 8, and the ending moments found Sam (Bridget Everett) movingly belting out Cyrus’ “The Climb” for her friends at a bar.
“I’ve been singing that song for a number of years, and I think that there’s something that is definitely a little on the nose about it, but it can be very moving to sing, and I had a personal emotional connection to it,” Everett said to IndieWire about the song choice. “And I also thought it just met the moment perfectly for Sam, and that the performance of it would be fun and it would make sense in the moment. It was the very first thing when we talked to music supervisors: ‘You have to find the money for this song.

[This story contains major spoilers from the series finale of Somebody Somewhere.]
The final episode of Somebody Somewhere goes out on a literal high note. As the HBO comedy’s supporting cast (Jeff Hiller, Mary Catherine Garrison, Murray Hill, Tim Bagley) looks on, Bridget Everett’s Sam offers a toast and performs a stirring rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb.” It’s a fitting end for a series whose greatest strength was often its ability to be sentimental without being saccharine, and it’s easy to view the scene as a symbolic farewell for its stars. “We didn’t know that would be the series finale, but we really have been writing like any moment could be the last moment of the show,” says co-creator Hannah Bos. “We also shot that during our first week of production on this season due to cast availability, so we really were just like, ‘I hope this works.'”

Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from the series finale of Somebody Somewhere on HBO.
The Peabody-winning comedy about a Kansas gal who finds out there’s no place like home ended its too-short run on HBO Sunday. Here, star and executive producer Bridget Everett — together with creators Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen — break down the final episode, and explain why it was important that Everett’s Sam not seem like she suddenly has it all together.
Deadline When you started in season one, did you know where you’re going and more importantly, how you wanted it all to end?
Paul Thureen We knew that it was going to be a central love story of Sam and Joel [Jeff Hiller]. For us, this being a real first time thing for us, that first season was about finding the rhythm, trusting that the way we were telling the story was enough.

“Somebody Somewhere” sang its final song, and Bridget Everett said the uplifting performance made for the HBO comedy’s perfect unplanned ending.
After three seasons of laughter, music and big emotional lows, the critically-acclaimed series from Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen ended its run with Everett’s Sam inviting her friends and loved ones to a celebration at her bar, where she sang a tearjerking rendition of “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus.
The song also served as the perfect bow to tie up a standout seven-episode season of “Somebody Somewhere,” which followed as Sam, a grief-stricken but lovable resident of Manhattan, Kansas, made huge strides to grow her confidence — and even found a romantic connection in her family farm’s tenant Iceland (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson).

Editor’s note: “Somebody Somewhere” is IndieWire’s No. 1 TV show of the year. After that decision was made, we called up co-creators Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen as well as star Bridget Everett to chat about what makes it so special.
“Somebody Somewhere” had to end sometime… didn’t it?
Considered by itself, the impossibly endearing HBO comedy from co-creators Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen, alongside star and executive producer Bridget Everett, is exactly the type of show that could go on forever. Following Sam (Everett) after she moves back to her hometown of Manhattan, Ks, the slice-of-life series sees her reconnecting with one sister while grieving another, finding friends in unexpected places, and learning to love herself despite all the voices telling her otherwise. In other words, she’s forging the fundamental building blocks of a good life — a continuous process through moments big and small.

“Somebody Somewhere” finds the laughs in life’s most vulnerable and authentic moments, which makes this week’s fender bender accident a prime example of the show’s excellence.
The HBO comedy series is one episode away from its series finale, with plenty of characters showing significant growth before we say farewell. For Joel (Jeff Hiller), Episode 6 gave him the wake-up call he needed to stand up for himself in his relationship — after a hilariously tragic car accident.
“As Much as I Like Not Feeling” began with Joel getting into an accident with an older lady. As he intently listened to a podcast about “doing hard things,” Joel realized he missed his turn. Times they are a-changin’ for the Somebody Somewhere crew, and Sam worries she’ll soon be short one very best friend. No more nightly tuck-ins? No more dinky dinkies? Say it ain’t so!
In Sunday’s episode, Joel and Brad take a huge step in their relationship. One that requires agreeing on fridge pictures (the jury’s still out), appliances on the kitchen counter (nope!) and the proper way to store Corningware in the cabinet. Yes, the new-ish couple moved in together, and even though his life is changing, Joel promised Sam they’d still talk on the regular.

Don’t worry, fans of the 1999 movie Cruel Intentions: the creators of the new adaptation for Prime haven’t forgotten to pay tribute to the classic Sarah Michelle Gellar starrer.
To help satiate the old fans while hoping to lure new ones, Showrunners Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman told an audience at Deadline’s inaugural TV Sidebar as the Scad Savannah Film Festival Saturday that they added multiple Easter eggs in the pilot to pay homage to the film.
They’ve already announced one big one: Sean Patrick Thomas, who starred as Ronald in the original, is back playing a professor in the new iteration that stars Sarah Catherine Hook (Caroline Merteuil) and Zac Burgess (Lucien Valmont) as the affluent step-siblings bent on causing mayhem. Singing is an act of faith. Whether you’re alone in the shower or mic’d up on stage, every time you turn your voice into an instrument, you’re asking for trust — trust that others will want to hear it, trust that you’ll remember all the words, notes, and rhythms, and, perhaps most importantly, trust that you’ll be happy with whatever comes out.
Faith isn’t easy to come by for Sam (Bridget Everett). When we first met the Kansas native in the first season of HBO’s “Somebody Somewhere,” she’s working a dismal office job. She’s just lost her sister, Holly, after a year of caring for her in their Manhattan, Ks hometown. Sam’s parents are on the decline, and the rest of her family isn’t exactly a fount of inspiration. Even friends are hard to come by. To say Sam’s...

We’re in an era of entertainment maximalism. Superheroes with larger-than-life powers; cinematic universes with a dozen franchises or more; huge swings with even the unlikeliest IP: all are inescapable. So it’s nearly a miracle that Somebody Somewhere, which seems like an experiment in how small a story can be and still enthrall its audience, has lasted this long. With its third and final season, it ends as it began: portraying the vital necessity of true friendship, especially later in life.
In the first season, Sam (Bridget Everett) has relatively recently returned from New York City to her hometown of Manhattan, Kansas, for her sister Holly’s last days. As the series begins, Holly has died of cancer, and Sam is just trying to maintain baseline functionality. “Somebody Somewhere” is a show about friendship.
It’s also a show about trying. And growing. And about a million other things that happen in the quest to find your people — wherever they may be.
For the crew of “Somebody Somewhere” that place is Manhattan, Kansas, and over three too-quick seasons, the Peabody-winning comedy series centers on Sam (Bridget Everett), a woman attempting to put her life back together in a small town after the death of her sister. She’s dealing with a lot of self-hate, but slowly she learns to build her own community — which includes new best friend Joel (Jeff Hiller), occasional nemesis sister Tricia (Mary Catherine Garrison), and many others, including memorable turns from Murray Hill and Tim Bagley.

The Duplass Brothers-produced series Somebody Somewhere has long been championed by critics and fans but didn’t receive any accolades on a major scale until it won a Peabody Award for its wonderful second season. This recognition will hopefully bring the show to a broader audience in time for its third and final season to warm and crush their hearts, as it is an incredible work of slice-of-life dramedy that somehow tops the already incredible first two seasons.
Somebody Somewhere Season 3 Review
This season follows the small-town Kansans we’ve come to know — Sam, Joel, and all their friends and loved ones — as they grow apart, each experiencing their own struggles. Although splitting up the cast of an ensemble-driven show like Somebody Somewhere is often a mistake, this approach feels incredibly and unexpectedly natural here because it is rooted in a thematic need rather than a narrative one.

In Season 1 of HBO’s Peabody Award-winning dramedy “Somebody Somewhere,” Sam Miller (Bridget Everett) worked through her grief and anger in the months following her older sister Holly’s death. In Season 2, she struggled to find her place in her hometown again while managing her first big blowup with her best friend Joel (Jeff Hiller) and grappling with a secret Holly had kept from her. Now, in the third season of this outstanding series, Sam finally settles into her tiny community and tries to navigate change without retreating into old habits of isolation and self-loathing. Just as magical as ever, the final season of “Somebody Somewhere” is a stunningly honest depiction of friendship, grace and courage.

Somebody Somewhere, a series telling a sincere, relatable story, is sadly coming to an end. This fall, the HBO comedy series will premier its third and final season, bringing an end to Sam's (Bridget Everett) inspirational journey of self-discovery. While we would have all loved for Sam and her best bud Joel (Jeff Hiller) to stick around for a little longer, it is time to say goodbye and the good thing is, we were not left hanging as their story will get a befitting conclusion when Season 3 premieres this fall. HBO has released a full trailer for the final season and there is more laughter than tears, teasing a happy ending for Sam and all she's ever wanted out of life.

HBO’s description for the third and final season of Somebody Somewhere is brief: “In season three, we see growth against all odds.” A trailer for the show suggests the source of some of those long odds.
In the trailer (watch it below), Sam (Bridget Everett) is faced with some changes in her life as Joel (Jeff Hiller), whom she’s been living with, gets an offer on his house and prepares to move, while she continues trying to figure out what she wants from her life: “I don’t really know what I’m doing,” Sam says at one point in the trailer, followed by a plaintive question: “What’s wrong with wanting a little bit more?”
There are, of course, a number of jokes in the trailer — Somebody Somewhere is a comedy series, even if it’s not a setup-punchline factory — along with the show’s characteristic open-hearted warmth toward its characters.

“Somebody Somewhere” is bracing for major changes in its first trailer for Season 3. The final installment of Bridget Everett’s award-winning comedy will premiere Oct. 27 at 10:30 p.m. Et on HBO. New episodes will also be available to stream on Max.
Monday’s trailer opens with what Sam dubs “a lot of change.” As her friends encourage the group to eat healthier, her best friend Joel (Jeff Hiller) prepares to move.
“I don’t really know what I’m doing. What’s wrong with wanting a little bit more?” Sam asks her sister.
“You are a woman who is in charge of her life. But you have to manifest it. You have to say it out loud otherwise it won’t happen,” Tricia (Mary Catherine Garrison) lectures. Later, she gives some kinder advice, assuring her sister that “nobody knows what they’re doing, I promise. You just do it.
