Chris O'Dowd has accused X Factor viewers of being "racist".
The It Crowd actor has claimed that some fans of the ITV talent show appear to be prejudiced against black hopefuls.
O'Dowd told Radio Times: "I'm a big X Factor fan. Generally my favourites go out in the first few weeks and, of course, because the viewing public is so racist, all the black, strong singers go out in round five every year."
The X Factor has produced several black stars throughout its run, including winners Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke, and successful artists such as Jls and Rebecca Ferguson.
Producers of the show have dismissed O'Dowd's comments, with an insider stating: "The X Factor has a long standing record of celebrating a diverse range of artists including two former winners, Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke, and numerous others who have reached the final stages of the competition including this year's semi-finalists Rough Copy,...

London, Aug 11 (Reuters) - American singer and actress Miley Cyrus notched up her first number one hit in the British singles chart on Sunday with "We Can't Stop", a new entry, the Official Charts Company said.
Cyrus, the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, sold 128,000 copies of the track in the last seven days scoring what was also her first top ten single in Britain, it said.
Her success ended Swedish DJ and producer Avicii's three-week spell at the top of the British singles charts with "Wake Me Up", which slipped to second place.
In the albums chart, Welsh classical singers Richard and Adam Johnson held onto the number one slot for a second week with their debut release, "The Impossible Dream".
A new entry from Civil Wars, their closest competitors, entitled "The Civil Wars", went straight in at number two, unseating English singer Jahmene Douglas whose "Love Never Fails" fell to fifth.

Los Angeles, Aug 4: Singer Nicole Scherzinger, who has broken up with Lewis Hamilton, is reportedly still in love with the Formula One driver.
Scherzinger, a judge on British reality show "The X Factor", parted ways with Hamilton after being in a relationship for over five years. However, her "X Factor" protege, Jahmene Douglas, says she still loves Hamilton.
"I know that she is in love with Lewis. And I've been with her as a friend while she was with him and when they broke up," mirror.co.uk quoted Douglas as saying.
"I am trying to be there for her because it is a tough time. It isn't easy to switch off after.

London, July 28 (Reuters) - Jahmene Douglas, a former supermarket worker and talent show contestant, topped the UK album charts for the first time on Sunday with "Love Never Fails", the Official Charts Company said.
Meanwhile, Swedish artist Avicii kept the top spot in the British singles chart for a second week with "Wake Me Up", which became the fastest selling single of the year a week earlier.
Douglas, 22, was a contestant on a TV talent show "The X Factor". His debut album features 10 tracks including Gospel interpretations of other artists' songs and a duet.
Douglas pushed Robin Thicke's album "Blurred Lines" into second place, while "Magna Carta Holy Grail" from U.S. rapper Jay-z fell to third place.
In the singles chart, Avicii's continued success denied One Direction's "Best Song Ever" the top slot, depriving the boy band of what would have been their fourth number one single.

Since finishing in second place on last year's X Factor, Jahmene Douglas has barely found time to stop and take stock of it all.
In fact, he's been so busy that he recorded his debut album Love Never Fails in just seven days, immediately after coming off The X Factor's UK tour.
With the LP out this week, we caught up with the star to talk about his decision to release a covers album, plans to take on America and what he makes of Tulisa's replacement on this year's series.
Hello Jahmene. Your new album is out this week. That's pretty exciting, isn't it?
"I am excited! It was originally meant to be released on May 27 - the delay was basically due to me needing to make the album. I think the label forgot that I was on the X Factor tour, so I ended up making it in about week.

When did primetime fluffy Saturday night TV suddenly turn into an evening of music industry A&R mechanics?
At some point over the last decade's long slog of Pop Idols, Britain's Got Talents, Fame Academies and nine series of X Factor, the emphasis switched from light entertainment to record sales.
Watching recent series of X Factor, it's occasionally felt like we were watching a meeting between record execs rather than a glossy family TV spectacle. The fearsome annihilation of cruise ship warbler Christopher Maloney by the producers and judges felt like a tipping point in the show's history as the singer's crime of being 'not very cool' seemed to excuse no-holds barred treatment of the blubbering Liverpudlian.
When the voting results were revealed, it turned out that Maloney had been topping the votes since week one. Despite a hammering from the judges and all the cool credentials of tattooed grumble-guts James Arthur,...

Simon Cowell could reportedly schedule next year's series of The X Factor directly against Strictly Come Dancing. The Syco boss allegedly believes that he could boost flagging ratings by placing the 2013 edition in an earlier, family friendly timeslot of 7pm, which would see it clash with its BBC rival. According to the Daily Mail, Cowell will meet with ITV executives to discuss the future of The X Factor - which is contracted for only one more year under its current deal - in January. Cowell is also said to have offered a "huge pay rise" to judge Nicole Scherzinger, who mentored winner James Arthur and runner-up Jahmene Douglas, in order to secure her for next year's X Factor.
