Chris O'Dowd has accused X Factor viewers of being "racist".

The It Crowd actor has claimed that some fans of the ITV talent show appear to be prejudiced against black hopefuls.

O'Dowd told Radio Times: "I'm a big X Factor fan. Generally my favourites go out in the first few weeks and, of course, because the viewing public is so racist, all the black, strong singers go out in round five every year."

The X Factor has produced several black stars throughout its run, including winners Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke, and successful artists such as Jls and Rebecca Ferguson.

The singer won the first series back in 2004 under the guidance of Simon Cowell, but has since fallen out with the Syco boss and has frequently criticised the talent show.

Nicole Scherzinger has claimed that she has the strongest X Factor category this year.

The former Pussycat Doll, who is mentoring the girls, said that her contestants from last year are cheering her on.

She said of her group, which includes Hannah Barrett, Tamera Foster and Abi Alton: "I have the strongest category I feel. I've got the best right here, so I'm coming in with some good contenders."

London, Aug 11 (Reuters) - American singer and actress Miley Cyrus notched up her first number one hit in the British singles chart on Sunday with "We Can't Stop", a new entry, the Official Charts Company said.

Cyrus, the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, sold 128,000 copies of the track in the last seven days scoring what was also her first top ten single in Britain, it said.

Her success ended Swedish DJ and producer Avicii's three-week spell at the top of the British singles charts with "Wake Me Up", which slipped to second place.

Los Angeles, Aug 4: Singer Nicole Scherzinger, who has broken up with Lewis Hamilton, is reportedly still in love with the Formula One driver.

Scherzinger, a judge on British reality show "The X Factor", parted ways with Hamilton after being in a relationship for over five years. However, her "X Factor" protege, Jahmene Douglas, says she still loves Hamilton.

London, July 20: Nicole Scherzinger has apparently been a pillar of strength for 'X Factor' runner up, Jahmene Douglas, and has helped him overcome his intense family issues.

The former X Factor singer told the Liverpool Echo that he would release his debut album with independent label Tristar Records.

"I wanted full control over what I was doing and full creativity and I wanted a label that will look after me. I didn't want to go somewhere with big artists where I would be put on the sideline," Maloney said.

Eliminated X Factor contestant Christopher Maloney has revealed that he has already received "offers" of a music deal, despite only being out of the competition "20 minutes". The 34-year-old Liverpudlian came third on the show last night (December 8) after losing out on a place in the final to James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas. Asked by The Xtra Factor presenters Caroline Flack and Olly Murs about what the future holds after losing out on the show, Maloney replied: "At the minute I'm just taking everything in.
