In 2024, Netflix released 3 Body Problem, a new adaptation of Liu Cixin's bestselling series Remembrance of Earth's Past. The sci-fi series wasn't the first adaptation of the book series, but it was a hit on Netflix.
3 Body Problem was created by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, alongside True Blood's Alexander Woo. It starred several actors of Game of Thrones fame, and it was later renewed for two seasons, which would give the creators time to fully explore the novels. Per What's on Netflix, 3 Body Problem received an exciting update, as Seasons 2 and 3 are expected to be shot back-to-back, and revealed the filming window and location.
3 Body Problem Season 1 premiered in March 2024, and the series has yet to start production for the follow-up seasons. The series is in early development, and the outlet denies the plans for a Spring 2025 filming start. The...

Until I saw NBC’s Grosse Pointe Garden Society, I’d never thought about how far it might be possible to take a gardening metaphor. Each of the four episodes sent to critics is threaded with voiceover narration, always from a different perspective but invariably laden with floral language comparing individual personalities to specific species or unwanted houseguests to pests.
To the extent that this series has a distinctive edge, it might be its commitment to this specific bit. A tiny part of me hopes it runs for a hundred episodes just to hear how tenuous or obscure the plant-based symbolism can get.
A much larger part of me, however, cannot bring myself to care whether it sticks around or not. Alice (AnnaSophia Robb) might liken herself to a wild geranium or her bestie Brett (Ben Rappaport) to a hardy dandelion. But the show they’re on is the TV...

New Amsterdam alum Jocko Sims is back at NBC with a recurring role on the upcoming drama series Grosse Pointe Garden Society. Also recurring on the twisty, soapy mystery series from Good Girls‘ Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs are Saamer Usmani (Three Body Problem), Josh Ventura (Till) and Nora Zehetner (Grey’s Anatomy).
Grosse Pointe Garden Society, which earlier today released a first trailer, follows four members of a suburban garden club — Birdie (Melissa Fumero), Catherine (Aja Naomi King), Brett (Ben Rappaport) and Alice (AnnaSophia Robb) — who find their lives intertwined by scandal, mischief and a shared secret – a murder no one wants to talk about. As dark truths begin to rot their lives under the surface, they struggle to remain as perfect as the flowers blooming in their garden above.

Through strike delays and industry contraction, television still managed to provide audiences with plenty of worthy shows to delight on across broadcast, cable and streaming.
Netflix’s ambitious “3 Body Problem” turned physics theories into a sci-fi thriller, while Apple TV+’s “Palm Royale” showed us the hilarious — and deadly — inner workings of Palm Beach society. HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country” brought the celebrated anthology series into the endless darkness of the Alaskan winter, as Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” took over the cultural zeitgeist with its autobiographical stalker story and network shows like “9-1-1” and “Abbott Elementary” finally made their anticipated returns following the resolution of the Hollywood double strikes. New broadcast shows also made their mark after long gestating development, including CBS’ “Matlock” starring Kathy Bates, while streaming brought some new and surprising returning hits in Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This” and Peacock’s “Love Island USA” Season...

The science fiction genre had a banner year in 2024 and it’s time to look back on the best of the best.
This year brought us a handful of new “Star Wars” shows that took the canon to new eras, a devastating finale to Netflix’s beloved animated series “Arcane” and reintroduced fans to the classic X-Men in “X-Men ’97.” It was an embarrassment of riches for fans of the genre.
These are the nine best sci-fi TV shows that made their mark on the year.

There have been plenty of good-to-great reboots of beloved series in the past few years. But there’s something about “X-Men ’97,” perhaps owing to its animated origins, that feels as though these new episodes are picking up right where the beloved 1990s show left off. And that’s no easy feat. While the animation has definitely improved,...

Whether it's Jordan Peele's new version or the original 1959 version, The Twilight Zone has charmed viewers with its unorthodox stories and mind-blowing reveals. The anthology series juggles genres, incorporating elements of horror, thrillers and drama and even romance and comedy. But one thing has always stayed the same. The Twilight Zone dives into the unexplained, placing viewers amidst phenomena and situations that are strange and psychological.
The intrigue and the suspense are what many love about the series. The inability to figure out what's going on has its charms, though it's not for everyone. The truth is, everyone likes The Twilight Zone for a different reason. While some enjoy the creepy stories, others enjoy the series' ability to intellectually stimulate the mind.

Sci-fi, fantasy, and other works of speculative fiction literature all lend themselves to being adapted for the screen through the television format. While movies typically have larger budgets and might reach a wider array of audiences, TV shows are in the unique position to take their time developing the story's world, which is a critical part of science fiction. Introducing viewers to the imagined rules and systems that govern the narrative requires attention to detail and seamless exposition, especially when these works are complex and rooted in real scientific principles.
Plenty of classic sci-fi books should be turned into movies and TV shows, but the ones that have received adaptations in the past few years have been well-received. Sci-fi has been having somewhat of a resurgence, especially in the television sphere, and luckily, there are plenty of amazing books to bring to life on the screen. As budgets increase, as...

Netflixs Emmy-nominated 3 Body Problem, inspired by Cixin Lius Remembrance Of Earths Past book series, portrays a strikingly gruesome scene with important implications for the future. The slow and definitive destruction of the repurposed oil tanker Judgment Day and the roles and reactions by characters Auggie Salazar (Eiza Gonzlez), Raj Varma (Saamer Usmani), and Thomas Wade (Liam Cunningham) foreshadow what is to come in 3 Body Problem season 2.
Season 1, episode 5 portrays Judgment Day and its many inhabitants (including children) being eviscerated by strands of invisible nanofibers stretched across the canal its traveling. Leading up to the events of the destroyed tanker, members of 3 Body Porblem's cast offer contrasting responses; Thomas Wade is seen giving orders, Raj Varma is blindly coordinating and obeying, and Auggie grudgingly complies.

The creators of Netflix's 3 Body Problem had their hands full for the first season. With tons of source material to pull from, the creators no doubt couldn't put everything from the books into season 1. One of the show's creators, David Benioff, recently shared one scene from the books that unfortunately didn't make the final cut.
Benioff, Dan Weiss, and Alexander Woo recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter, to discuss their Emmy-nominated show, 3 Body Problem. The show is based on the series of novels written by Cixin Liu, known as the Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy. The books were thought for many years to be too hard to adapt, as the novels are incredibly ambitious and are classified as hard sci-fi. However, the creators of Netflix's 3 Body Problem have proven to be up to the task, receiving multiple Emmy nominations for the first season.

The science fiction genre has produced some of the most engaging must-watch TV shows of the modern era. Some series are more popular among audiences than others, but the better sci-fi shows lean heavily on scientific accuracy while telling an ambitious story. This is called "hard" sci-fi, where fiction is still present, but getting the scientific elements right is a larger focus.
Whether it is about technological innovations, cloning, robotics, alternate histories, or science-related crimes, these sci-fi shows have ingenious premises that mix logic with plentiful imagination. In the current age of streaming, there have been many fantastic hard sci-fi shows with admirable and mind-bending storytelling for genre fans. From grounded projects like Black Mirror and Severance to more extraordinary space tales like Foundation and The Expanse, these are the best shows that lean prominently into the science part of science fiction.

The creators of the 3 Body Problem have addressed the confusion surrounding the series' renewal. The Netflix sci-fi drama was created by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss along with Alexander Woo. The series is based on the Hugo Award-winning Chinese novel series Remembrance of Earth's Past by Liu Cixin.
David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo announced that the show will produce two additional seasons, bringing the epic story to its intended conclusion. Last month, during Netflix's upfront presentation, the streamer revealed that 3 Body Problem had been picked up for all-new episodes. However, the announcement lacked details about the number of episodes or seasons, sparking widespread speculation. Benioff, Weiss, and Woo have since clarified to The Hollywood Reporter via Deadline that the renewal is for multiple seasons. On Friday, during a Television Academy panel at Netflix's Fysee space, they confirmed that the series will...

One of Netflix’s biggest hits of this year was the sci-fi series 3 Body Problem. Adapted from the eponymous book series by Chinese author Liu Cixin, the series captured the attention of fans due to its complex story and great production, as well as the brilliantly written characters and casting choices. While a lot of fans thought it was complex and were somewhat confused by the differences between the series and the books, the series received positive reviews from critics and fans, so it was expected that Netflix would renew it for a second season. And that has just happened! We are happy to confirm that Netflix has officially renewed the 3 Body Problem for a second series!
The series has been officially summarized by Netflix as follows: “3 Body Problem explores how humanity chooses to respond to its gravest threat. Starting off during China’s Cultural Revolution in the ’60s,...

Given the massive amount of resources that Netflix committed to "3 Body Problem" (not to mention the lengthy stay at the top of Netflix's Top 10 lists since its debut), it was likely only a matter of time before the streaming giant made the obvious official. That's finally happened, and now fans of one of the nerdiest, densest, and most existential sci-fi book series ever written can look forward to showrunners and co-creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo's take on what's widely considered to be the best book of the alien-invasion trilogy.
Season 2 of "3 Body Problem" is now confirmed to be in the works, as Netflix announced in a social media post on Twitter (only literal extraterrestrials would ever call it "X") earlier this afternoon. When Game of Thrones TV series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss set out to craft an epic series called 3 Body Problem, an adaptation of a trilogy of sci-fi novels written by Chinese author Liu Cixin, for the Netflix streaming service, they were hoping to get four seasons out of the material. But when the first season of 3 Body Problem started streaming in March and pulled in a sizeable but underwhelming number of views, some began to question whether or not Netflix would want any more episodes of the big budget show. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Netflix has indeed ordered more episodes – but just enough to allow Benioff, Weiss, and co-creator Alexander Woo to wrap up the story. Exactly how many episodes that will be has not yet been revealed.

Netflix has officially renewed 3 Body Problem season 2. This news comes almost exactly two months after the show first premiered. It remains to be seen when the new season premieres on the streaming platform.
3 Body Problem is set to continue. The show, which was created by Alexander Woo along with Game of Thrones' David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, is an adaptation of the iconic 2008 novel by Liu Cixin, the first part of a trilogy known as Remembrance of Earth's Past that also includes 2008's The Dark Forest and 2010's Death's End. Despite the show premiering at No. 2 on the Netflix global chart of the Top 10 English-Language shows and rising to No. 1 for three consecutive weeks, 3 Body Problem season 2 was not immediately renewed.
At their Upfront presentation, Netflix announced that 3 Body Problem season 2 has now been officially renewed. Check out their Twitter announcement below:

Netflix announced on Wednesday that it had “renewed” “3 Body Problem,” but the streamer notably didn’t refer to the extension as a “Season 2.” Instead, it appears to be more of a case of Netflix ordering “additional episodes” instead of a new, full Season 2 order.
Per a press release, the exact number of seasons and episodes will be announced at a later date.
It appears that the order will take the series to its finale, as creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo noted in a statement that they “get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion.” In an April interview with Collider, Benioff said the team would “need at least three, maybe four seasons to tell the whole story.”

Netflix has picked up additional episodes of 3 Body Problem to conclude the story which will be created, executive produced and written by the returning trio of David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo.

Beyond Season 2 of this series, they are also working on the recently announced series Death by Lightning. Woo, who has an overall deal with Netflix, will return as co-creator, executive producer and writer on 3 Body Problem.

[Editor’s note: The following post contains spoilers for Netflix’s “3 Body Problem” and Cixin Liu’s “Three-Body Problem,” the book on which it is based.]
Netflix’s “3 Body Problem” is based on a wildly popular book series by Cixin Liu — but how close does it come to the source material? Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have experience adapting dense novels with “Game of Thrones” — but they’ve also been in the position of having to branch away from the original text and disappointing audiences as a result. “3 Body Problem,” which they co-created and executive produce with Alexander Woo, could face the same issues.
The sci-fi drama begins with a woman named Ye Wenjie, whose father is killed during the Chinese Cultural Revolution of the 1960s. Wenjie ends up working at a mysterious military base which she eventually learns is trying to make extraterrestrial contact, and her work there ripples into the present, when a...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains some details of Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, set for an eight-episode launch on the streamer March 21.
“Why should I get bent out of shape about what the world might look like 400 years from now,” physics research assistant Saul Durand (Jovan Adepo) says flippantly in Netflix’s 3 Body Problem. “I have no control over that.”
The sentiment of those words landed hard on me, because that’s almost exactly how I felt about the bloated and often remarkably boring big-budget sci-fi series from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and True Blood producer Alexander Woo.

Before a rushed ending soured the “Game of Thrones” fanbase on showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the duo had rightfully earned acclaim for wrangling a seemingly unadaptable series of books into a damn good adaptation. Author and screenwriter George R.R. Martin had written “A Song of Ice and Fire” as a partial response to the strictures of TV, crafting a story with the sprawling ensemble, major battles, sex, violence and abrupt demises he couldn’t work into scripts for the likes of NBC and CBS. The book series kicked off in 1996, just a few years before the rise of premium cable culture drivers would make television more friendly to artistic ambition and less subject to the FCC. Aided by a stellar cast and strong support from HBO, Benioff and Weiss nonetheless did exceptional work translating Martin’s vision into a nuanced drama with a deep bench of antiheroes and competing points of view.

A group of scientists encounter what may or may not be aliens in this new series from the makers of Game Of Thrones. Watch the 3 Body Problem trailer below.

Allow us to add another one to the list of highly anticipated TV shows heading our way. Netflix have adapted Liu Cixin’s novel of the same name and the final trailer has just emerged online.
Take a look at the epic trailer for 3 Body Problem.
