The 2024 Grand Prix was one of the most volatile seasons yet in Formula 1 history. Alliances shifted, rivalries were born, and tempers flared on and off the track, as Drive to Survive documented each moment with a vested interest. However, despite Netflix’s efforts to get the audience to feel up close and personal with the sport, the show ended up doing more harm than good to F1.

After seven whole seasons, the drivers and fans alike have cried out against Drive to Survive‘s unethical technique of selective editing and storytelling. The Netflix series has drafted storylines to serve its own purpose by adding fake sound effects, manipulating audio clips, and distorting real events for drama.
However, as the 2025 Grand Prix kicks off, Drive to Survive might already have found its biggest headline-grabbing drama for Season 8.

When it comes to Formula 1, there is no shortage of bickering drama and daily scandals. Netflix’s arrival on the scene with their widely criticized docu-series Drive to Survive only added to the pre-existing problem by pouring fuel on the already raging fire. As the show now steps into Season 8, the stage has been set for one of the biggest simmering rivalries on the F1 paddock.

With Red Bull and McLaren already locking horns over the Championship title going into 2025, there is also additional animosity between the respective team’s principals. Clearly, there is no love lost between Christian Horner and Zak Brown, but as amicable as the rivalry between their star drivers may be, Horner and Brown can hardly stand to be in the same room with each other.
This animosity has now led to one of the most brutal clashes of words across the...

McLaren’s 26-year wait for a Formula 1 Constructors’ title has officially come to an end.
The team’s drivers — Lando Norris, 25, and Oscar Piastri, 23 — brought the trophy home to the papaya family on Sunday after maintaining the team’s lead ahead of Ferrari during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race of the 2024 season.
After taking pole position in Qualifying on Saturday, Norris ultimately won the race. As for Piastri, who was right behind his teammate on the grid going into the final race, he came in 10th place after an early incident with Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen.
Although there was only a 21-point gap between McLaren and Ferrari in the Constructors’ standings, Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz Jr. and Charles Leclerc weren’t able to overtake the lead, especially since the team was already facing hurdles heading into the race as Leclerc had a 10-place grid penalty.

It looks like a fireball. The Ferrari hurtles down the Vegas Strip at about 200 miles per hour, a cloud of orange sparks billowing out from underneath the car. The driver, Carlos Sainz, does what he can to bring the $15 million machine to a stop. He isn’t sure what happened, but knows something is wrong. He’s right.
A drain cover on Las Vegas Boulevard came loose, flying up and into the car, tearing apart the chassis and cracking the floor. The Ferrari is fucked, to be sure. But a...

Eyes burning and blood boiling, a rattled Toto Wolff inconceivably loses his cool. Sat in a team principals meeting in Montreal, the German hits the ceiling, in a similar vein to his porpoising Mercedes car that is the only topic of conversation. “If a car ends up in the wall because it’s too stiff or it’s bottoming out…” he barks. “You’re in the s*** and I’m going to come after you.”
Evoking memories of 2021’s title duel, Christian Horner hits back – and hard. “You’ve got a problem, change your f****** car,” the Red Bull boss retorts. Cue bedlam from all angles. It is, unquestionably, absorbing television.
It doesn’t take long for Formula 1: Drive to Survive, edition five, to whet the appetite. Halfway through episode two, in fact. Call it what you like: off the rails. Uncut. Box-office. Wolff’s incredible rant is the content every producer craves.
