ITV has unveiled a slate of new comedy commissions, most of which will premiere on Itvx, its upcoming free streaming service.

New comedy titles include “Plebs: Soldiers of Rome,” “Deep Fake Neighbour Wars,” “Ruby Speaking Count,” “Abdulla” and “Significant Other.”

“The arrival of Itvx gives us more opportunities to commission a broad range of comedies and a dedicated place for the genre to call home,” said Nana Hughes, ITV’s Head of Comedy. The executive added that ITV aspired to showcase a “huge cross section of contemporary, diverse and inclusive comedy.”

“We want to take risks but most importantly we want our audiences to find shows that reflect them and make them laugh,” Hughes continued.

“Plebs: Soldiers of Rome” is a a feature-length special based on the award-winning comedy series “Plebs” which has had five successful seasons. “Plebs” is directed and written by Sam Leifer and co-written by Tom Basden.

AMC Networks announced renewals for six series across multiple platforms: “Kin,” “Bloodlands,” “My Life is Murder,” “London Kills,” “Creepshow” and the “Slasher” franchise. The new “Slasher” installment is entitled “Slasher: Ripper” and will star Eric McCormack as ruthless tycoon Basil Garvey. The announcements were made at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.

“Kin,” the Irish gang drama streaming on AMC Plus, is returning for its second season. The series centers the Kinsellas, a crime family that wars with and ultimately kills powerful drug kingpin Eamon Cunningham (Ciarán Hinds). Season 2 will begin production this summer and follow the Kinsellas as they become the top dogs in Dublin but must deal with the consequences of Cunningham’s death. Idris Elba has denies claims made by two former writers on his play “Tree,” who say their work was plagiarized and that they were forced off of the project, which premieres at the Manchester International Festival on Friday.

The two female writers, Tori Allen-Martin and Sarah Henley, made the accusation in a Medium post on Tuesday, titled “Tree. A Story of Gender and Power in Theatre.” In it, they explained their involvement in the project over four years, including “multiple drafts, workshops, re-drafts and industry performances,” and said that Kwame Kwei-Armah, who is listed as a creator alongside Elba, took credit for their ideas.

Elba released a statement on Twitter Thursday explaining that the origins of the play was inspired by his desire to visit his late father’s birthplace in South Africa, reflected in the song “Tree” from his album “Mi Mandela,” which serves as the basis of the play.

Idris Elba has responded to accusations of plagiarism and discrimination by two writers who worked on his new stage play Tree, which premiered today at the Manchester International Festival in the UK.

The two female writers, Tori Allen-Martin and Sarah Henley, claimed in a blog post earlier this week that they were shut out after working on the play for four years and suffered “intimidation and disrespect” during the process. The play is credited to Elba and writer-producer Kwame Kwei-Armah, who is currently artistic director of London’s Young Vic theatre.

Today, Elba posted a message on Twitter in which he explained his side of the story and expressed “frustration” over the accusation. “London Kills” is coming home after the BBC picked up the series, which is an original for the U.S. streamer Acorn TV. Much like BBC America’s “Killing Eve,” the series launched outside the U.K. and has been acquired by pubcaster the BBC.

“London Kills” follows an elite team of cops as they investigate murders taking place in the titular English capital. Sharon Small, Hugo Speer, Bailey Patrick, and Tori Allen-Martin star.

The series has launched in North America and elsewhere internationally on British drama skewed streamer Acorn TV, which is moving heavily into original scripted. AMC, a joint venture partner in “Killing Eve” channel BBC America also owns Rlj, the parent company of “London Kills” streamer Acorn TV.

Acorn Media International distributes “London Kills” and struck the BBC deal, its first with a free-tv broadcaster in the U.K. The agreement covers two seasons of the show.
