A while back, Stranger Things and Ghostbusters: Afterlife actor Finn Wolfhard made his feature directorial debut with a horror comedy called Hell of a Summer, which he directed alongside Billy Bryk, who also appeared in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Neon continues paying tribute to classic 1980s slasher movies with fun posters for their upcoming film Hell of a Summer, and Bloody Disgusting is debuting a new one today.

Following in the wake of last week’s Hell of a Summer poster inspired by Happy Birthday to Me, Neon’s latest poster for the new movie pays homage to 1980’s Prom Night!

The original Prom Night was directed by Paul Lynch, released the very same year that Friday the 13th changed the game for the slasher subgenre. Horror icon Jamie Lee Curtis starred.

Slasher comedy Hell of a Summer will release in theaters on April 4, 2025. “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard is the co-writer, co-director and star of the upcoming movie.

Jenna Ortega isn’t looking to join the MCU any time soon — especially after an uncredited role in “Iron Man 3.”

The “Wednesday” actress told Et in the video here that she has been there, done that when it comes to the MCU, even if her role in the 2013 franchise installment was uncredited.

“I did it once,” Ortega said when asked if she would want to be in a Marvel film. “It was one of my first jobs I ever did. They took all my lines out. I’m in ‘Iron Man 3.’ I take up the frame. I have one leg. And I’m the vice president’s daughter.”

She added of the experience, “They even took my name away. I count that, and then I move on.”

Ortega’s “Death of a Unicorn” co-star and MCU “Ant-Man” actor Paul Rudd seemed flummoxed at how Ortega was uncredited in her bit part.

“Wednesday” Season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2025, but it sounds like ideas are already being conjured up for episodes beyond that.

Jenna Ortega, the star of the hit dark comedy series, told Collider that the writers are “messing around and throwing out ideas” for Season 3 of the “Addams Family” offshoot.

If Heart Eyes was something you found satisfied your lover's holiday bloodlust, then Valentine represents the perfect nightcap.

Star Trek: Section 31 pulls a surprising cameo in its final scene, as Jamie Lee Curtis appears as the team's commander. That included a pair of Oscars for the two: Yeoh for Best Actress and Curtis for Best Supporting Actress. The movie itself also won Best Picture.

When fans think of Jamie Lee Curtis’ genre contributions, the conversation usually starts and ends with John Carpenter's Halloween. Understandably so, as Laurie Stroud is one of the greatest “final girls." However, the actress’ horror career extends well beyond her many battles with the dreaded boogeyman. Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the most recognizable scream queens, establishing her presence as Laurie Strode in the Halloween franchise as well as appearing in 80s cult classics such as The Fog and Prom Night. Her characters are often headstrong and determined in the face of adversity, and that’s what makes them so compelling to root for. Although on the screen, Curtis’ performances are brave, in reality, she does not like being scared at all. In fact, one of the most iconic villains of the Disney renaissance period left her terrified.

Director/producer Sean S. Cunningham has admitted that his 1980 slasher film "Friday the 13th" was a deliberate effort to imitate the style and success of John Carpenter's "Halloween," which had come out only two years prior. Cunningham tried to copt Carpenter's "killer's eye perspective" camera angles, and it's no coincidence that both films take place on dates famous for horror, bad luck, and death. Cunningham's gambit was successful, though, and his $550,000 movie ended up making nearly $60 million at the box office. It also spawned 11 sequels, many of which came to define the horror trends of the '80s. Although none of the "Friday the 13th" movies are particularly beloved by critics, they are a gestalt-defining phenomenon.

The upcoming Netflix limited drama series “The Beast in Me” has added four new cast members, Variety has learned.

Brittany Snow, Natalie Morales, David Lyons, and Tim Guinee will all star in the show alongside previously announced leads Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys. The show was originally picked up to series at the streamer back in March.

Humongous begins on Labor Day (September 2) in the 1940s before flash-forwarding to the present day. Once we move into the modern era of the story (and past a rather brutal opening sequence), this Canadian production slips into familiar territory. The setting of an island is, admittedly, different than the usual school or creepy old house, but Paul Lynch’s horror follow-up to Prom Night is still formulaic.

Even so, Humongous passes for a watchable, if not low-stakes and oldfangled slasher.

School is starting to get back in session for many, hammering in one of the final nails of summer’s coffin. It’s fitting that the new school year heralds in the arrival of Fall; few things are scarier than the hells of school. Students must deal with homework, teachers, parents, social structures, and puberty. Teachers must contend with unruly students, their unrulier parents, grading, and office stresses. And high school is a hell of its own.

In releasing his ‘X’ trilogy, Ti West has delivered three very powerful, yet different films that have each left an indellible mark on horror and modern cinema more widely.

With MaXXXine, the grand finale of this project, West takes us on a visceral journey through 1980s Hollywood, weaving a tale that is as much a slasher as it is a critique of the very industry it depicts. This third installment sees Mia Goth reprise her role as Maxine Minx, the ambitious survivor from X, now thrust into the glitzy yet perilous world of Los Angeles.

Set in 1985, MaXXXine opens with a montage that situates us firmly in the cultural milieu of the period, a time of moral panic, sensationalist media, and the burgeoning home video market. Clips of Ronald Reagan pontificating about American values juxtapose with news reports on the ‘Night Stalker’ and the satanic panic, creating an atmosphere thick with paranoia and fear.

Mia Goth is set to finish out the Ti West X trilogy in the upcoming horror sequel MaXXXine, and the star recently reflected on what the trilogy has meant to her acting career, and what comes next for her as an artist.

MaXXXine will round out the X trilogy, with Goth returning to the character that has made her a household name. The upcoming film shifts Maxine's story to the 1980s, where she has finally received her big break in Hollywood, starring in the in-universe film, The Puritan II. From Prom Night to Jennifer’s Body, teen slasher movies have always been a staple in the horror genre. Even if the films don’t always earn positive reviews from critics, viewers never seem to get tired of watching teenagers make painfully bad decisions (“Don’t open that door!”) and get chased through the woods by a masked killer who turns out to be someone in the friend group.

Curiously, however, the subgenre’s popularity hasn’t really translated to TV. There have been a few teen slasher show attempts like MTV’s Scream, Freeform’s Dead of the Summer, and Prime Video’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, but none of them ultimately survived long on air or in the cultural conversation.

Exclusive: Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee’s Thunder Road (John Wick) is partnering with longtime Screen Gems executive Scott Strauss to launch Badlands.

Backed by Andrew Schwartzberg and Jon Shiffman’s Renegade Capital, the independent genre label will feature development and co-fi funds and plans to make two to three films per year.

First up for the new venture will be Arachnid, starring Matilda Lutz. Written by Jayson Rothwell (Underworld: Blood Wars) and directed by Ángel Gómez (Voces), the spider thriller is due to begin filming this July in Madrid. Altitude Film Sales will introduce the film to buyers in Cannes next week, with CAA Media Finance handling domestic rights.

Rothwell, Schwartzberg, Shiffman, Peter Welter, Alexandra Milchan, and Josh Weinstock are part of the Arachnid producing team.

Lutz is best known for genre projects including Revenge, Reptile and the upcoming films Magpie and Red Sonja, in which she has the title role.

2021's Fear Street trilogy proved to be a major success for Netflix, and amid persistent rumors that the streamer might be planning to develop more adaptations of R.L. Stine's work, we got confirmation that a Fear Street movie was in the works last November.

Netflix recently announced the full cast and a synopsis for Fear Street: Prom Queen (or Fear Street '88: Prom Queen as it's titled in this video), and the streamer has now revealed that filming is officially underway.

We also have a brief behind-the-scenes teaser featuring several members of the cast chatting about the show as they prepare to shoot their scenes. Something tells us their characters won't be having quite as much fun as Prom Night progresses.
