Bablyon 5's Jerry Doyle, who played Michael Garibaldi on the show, has sadly passed away at the age of 60
Sad, sad news today. Actor and radio host Jerry Doyle, fondly remembered in these parts for playing chief of security Michael Garibaldi in Babylon 5, has passed away.
Doyle played Chief Warrant Officer Garibaldi on the sci-fi show throughout its run, first appearing in 1993 TV movie Bablylon 5: The Gathering. His other small-screen appearances included guest spots in Homefront, Renegade, Sliders and NYPD Blue. It was as the host of a nationally syndicated radio show that he found an enthusiastic audience in recent years.
His family made the announcement via his Facebook page, informing followers that the cause of his death was as yet unknown. A flood of tributes is steadily arriving there, many of them from fans praising his wit, thoughtfulness and kindness.

"Bones" has cast former "Gossip Girl" star Kelly Rutherford to appear in an upcoming episode of Season 9.
The actress who once played Lily van der Woodsen will guest-star as Stephanie McNamara, according to The Hollywood Reporter. An old friend of Jack Hodgins (T.J. Thyne), Stephanie becomes involved in one of the Jeffersonian's cases when her brother becomes a murder suspect. A wealthy woman, she is at first pleased to see Hodgins before learning that being on the target end of a murder investigation is no fun at all.
Interestingly, this marks the second occasion in which an old friend of Hodgins gets involved with a murder. In the Season 2 episode, "The Man in the Mansion," a college friend -- and the man who married Hodgins' one-time girlfriend -- was murdered. Hodgins subsequently got into trouble for improper bias and for tampering with evidence.
Although best known in recent years for her "Gossip Girl" role,...

FilmDistrict has pushed its upcoming remake Oldboy from its original October 25, 2013 release date to November 27, 2013. No reason was given for the move.
Oldboy will now face a more crowded field in its new release date, squaring off against Fox Searchlight's Black Nativity, Disney's Frozen, and Open Road Films' Homefront in wide release, along with Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Grace of Monaco, and Out of the Furnace in limited release. Now that Oldboy has vacated its October 25 slot, only The Counselor and Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa are opening on that date.
Josh Brolin stars in Oldboy as Joe Doucett, a man who was inexplicably abducted and held captive for 20 years before being unexpectedly released. He goes on a quest to find the men who held him as their prisoner for so long. Spike Lee directs from a screenplay by Mark Protosevich, based on the original Korean film Oldboy directed by Chan-wook Park.

“Crysis” developer Crytek’s shopping spree in the wake of Thq’s bankruptcy is still in full force: the company announced yesterday that they’re opening a new studio in Austin and staffing it with ex-Vigil employees. It’s their ninth (ninth!) studio worldwide, and their first in the Us of A.
Former Vigil general manager David Adams will head up the new studio, and IGN is reporting that all 35 employees are former Vigil staffers. Vigil was scuttled last week, part of the collateral damage of Thq’s on-going bankruptcy.
While Crytek USA is being managed and run by ex-Vigil team-members, Crytek didn’t just buy the company -- they hired a bunch of recently unemployed game developers. “It’s more like a new start [for the team],” a Crytek rep told Gamasutra.
For his part, former Thq CEO congratulated everyone involved, thanking Crytek “for saving as much as they could of a fantastic team.

Crytek has announced its plans to open a new studio which will include staff from recently shut down Vigil Games.
Crytek's newest outfit will be situated in Austin, Texas and will be championed by Vigil co-founder David Adams. Over 30 ex-Vigil employees will operate out of Crytek USA Corp.
As reported by McV, Mr Adams expressed his excitement stating: "I'm thrilled to be a part of the newest Crytek studio, which will boast some of the brightest development talent in the industry.
"The studio's launch represents Crytek's commitment to delivering diverse and high quality content to players everywhere."
Great news for Vigil, however bad news still for fans of the Darksiders franchise; Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli stating his company will not be bidding on this IP.
Crytek did however purchase Homefront for $500,000 at the Thq auction last week.

Kyle Chandler is one of those actors who is a journeyman, logging time on a number of television shows--"Homefront" and "Early Edition" among them--and appearing in small roles in a number of films before finally landing what would be his star-making turn in "Friday Night Lights." The critically acclaimed show struggled for survival throughout its five seasons, but it was a launchpad for folks like Taylor Kitsch, Adrianne Palicki and Minka Kelly and for Chandler as well, it put him firmly on the radar thanks to his turn as Eric Taylor. J.J. Abrams made a great choice in slotting him…...

Handsome, affable, and intense, Kyle Chandler has earned critical and popular acclaim thanks to his role as pressure-cooked Coach Taylor on TV's "Friday Night Lights." With the release of "Super 8," we suspect Chandler -- who co-stars in the film as deputy sheriff Jackson Lamb -- will be hailed as an "overnight sensation" by critics and audiences. If only they knew how long he's been up-and-coming!
Major stardom may have eluded him, but the Buffalo, NY native has been working steadily for nearly 20 years, landing meaty roles in blockbusters like "King Kong," "The Kingdom" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still." But before he dodged apes, angry football fans and Keanu Reeves, he was making moves on George Strait's tour bus in 1992's "Pure Country."
"Pure Country" has probably been forgotten by all but the most fervent Strait fans. That's as it should be. Unlike Chandler, Strait wasn't really...

American character actor known for his tough-guy roles in westerns and on television
With a voice that sounded as if it were strained through gravel chipped from his craggy face, James Gammon, who has died of cancer aged 70, had a memorable presence as a character actor in crime films, rural dramas and especially westerns, from A Man Called Horse (1970) to Urban Cowboy (1980), Silverado (1985), Wyatt Earp (1994), Wild Bill (1995) and Appaloosa (2008). Ed Harris, who directed and starred in Appaloosa, said of Gammon: "If he'd been born 20 years earlier he'd have been in every other western ever made."
Gammon had a perpetual squint that could be interpreted as crazy or wise – or both. His best-known role was as the unflappable baseball manager Lou Brown in the comedy Major League (1989). On television, he played Don Johnson's father in the series Nash Bridges from 1996 to 2001. Gammon's ability to reveal an essential weakness, and the...

Bill Lawrence, aka the mayor of Cougar Town, has said that he wants to start incorporating cast members from his last show, Scrubs, into his current one, and by God, he’s a man of his word: I’ve just learned exclusively that he’s just rehired Ken Jenkins.
The actor formerly known as Dr. Kelso has been tapped to play (and how perfect is this!) the father of Courteney Cox’s Jules. There are no story details yet and no air date, but obviously, it’ll be among the fall episodes. And it’s probably a safe bet that...

Roger Sterling (John Slattery) ducks out of the Sterling Cooper offices for a hotel-room romp with Jane Siegel (Peyton List), for whom he eventually divorces his wife in Season Two of Mad MenJohn Slattery gets paid to do all those terrible, unhealthy things that the rest of us can only dream about. Chain-smoke in public buildings. Drink bourbon at the office. Have extramarital affairs with busty secretaries. Eat too many raw oysters and then vomit on his clients. Ask Sarah Jessica Parker to pee on him. Okay, maybe just some of the things the rest of us dream about. There was a time when having a fictional urine fetish—which he did so memorably on Sex & The City, playing Carrie Bradshaw’s dirty, dirty politician boyfriend—looked like it may be the best and only legacy for the 46-year-old actor. Prior to his near-golden shower TV debut, Slattery was known...
