En Vogue performed the theme song from the third season.
During its second season, the show was presented live, enabling realistic performances from the main cast and breaking character between commercials and credits.
The three male leads, Charles S. Dutton, Rocky Carroll, and Carl Gordon had all recently worked together in the Broadway production of August Wilson's "The Piano Lesson." In fact Dutton had originally wanted their other co-star, S. Epatha Merkerson, to play the part of Eleanor, before the part ultimately went to Ella Joyce.
During the second season, Charles S. Dutton became concerned that children were writing fan letters to the character of drug dealer Andre Thompson (played by Clifton Powell) saying that they wanted to be "cool" like him. In the third season, Thompson was portrayed as cruel and bitter to dissuade children from liking him.
