Levi, who was cast as Faith's dog Defor, was the real-life pet of the series' writers Jan Etheringotn and Gavin Petrie. Lynda Bellingham's dog was initially cast but he was ultimately deemed too intelligent and alert, whereas Levi possessed the right sort of docility that was required.
Originally a BBC Radio 4 sitcom , first broadcast in 1988, before being picked up by ITV in 1991.
The house and neighborhood where Faith and Bill live is set in an unnamed London suburb, though it is implied that Faith is from Penge, Southeast London.
