The cast of this episode includes three generations of the Bridges family. The main character, Dr. Simon Kress, is played by Beau Bridges. His father is played by his real-life father Lloyd Bridges and his son is played by his real-life son Dylan Bridges.
The house used for the Kress house, Foxglove Farm located at 6471 224 Street in the township of Langley, British Columbia, was also used in two episodes of Stargate SG-1 (1997): as a house in East Germany in 1982 in The Gamekeeper (1998) and as the Kane house in Icon (2004).
At the start of the episode Dr. Simon Kress refers to activity in section 51 and a map is visible that says "Area 51". This is an apparent reference to the location where some people believe the government is holding the remains of aliens from a crashed space craft.
Dr. Simon Kress says, "Charlton Heston, eat your heart out" when the Sandkings part into two groups, a reference to the scene in The Ten Commandments (1956) in which Moses parts the Red Sea. Heston later played Chief Justice Haden Wainwright in the intended series finale Final Appeal (2000), which featured several clips from this episode.
