In this episode Kramer (Michael Richards) has to fire Raquel Welch from the fictional musical, Scarsdale Surprise. This story was based on Andrew Lloyd Webber firing Faye Dunaway from Sunset Boulevard.
This episode was inspired by true events. Writer Alec Berg had a mad crush on actress Dylan Tays who plays Jerry's blonde girlfriend in episode 7:19, "The Calzone." Over the phone, Berg convinced Tays to go to the Oscars with him. (He was writing jokes for the ceremony one year.) Unfortunately, when he went to pick her up he found out she had a boyfriend, a photographer who wasn't too thrilled to see him. Tays had neglected to tell him about that on the phone.
Julia is hiding her pregnancy in this episode and during this season because her son, Charlie Hall, now a working actor, was born about two weeks after this episode aired.
The working title for this episode was "The Dude."
When Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld) is wearing only a towel, his girlfriend asks him if he shaved his chest. We saw in the previous episode The Muffin Tops (1997), that he did shave and it made him very itchy.
