Universal Pictures has announced the nationwide theatrical re-release of Happy Gilmore, the beloved 1996 sports comedy starring Adam Sandler as a failed hockey player turned golf sensation. Audiences nationwide can experience this comedy classic on the big screen during special screenings on April 27 and April 30.

As someone who’s appreciated films like Jack and Jill, and Three Blind Mice but then didn’t adore Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and its sequel, I approached Screamboat with a blend of intrigue and scepticism. For years, dual roles have been played largely for laughs. Think of Adam Sandler’s Razzie-sweeping twin turn in Jack and Jill, or Lisa Kudrow as both Phoebe and Ursula Buffay on Friends. Eddie Murphy was always particularly prolific, his most multiplicitous performance as a clutch of Klumps for Nutty Professor II.

There are exceptions, of course. But for every Legend or The Prestige there are 10 Austin Powers, Bowfingers and – shudder – Norbits. This year, however, is giving us a more dramatic breed of duplicate. Robert De Niro will pull double Don duty in The Alto Knights, Michael B Jordan will play twin leads in the supernatural Sinners and a pair of Robert Pattinson clones is currently headlining Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17.

Jack and Jill is peak Adam Sandler, outrageously goofy and packed with over-the-top humor. When it hit theaters, it didn’t exactly win over critics, but over time, it’s become one of those so-bad-it’s-good comedies that deserves a second look.

With a star-studded cast, including Al Pacino in a role no one saw coming and a hilarious Johnny Depp making a cameo wearing a Justin Bieber T-shirt, the film had all the ingredients for a wild ride.

As January wraps up, Hulu is keeping the momentum going with an impressive lineup of new titles next month. Whether you’re into movies, TV shows, or both, there’s plenty to keep you entertained throughout February.

Al Pacino’s memoir, Sonny Boy, is easily one of the most eagerly awaited books of 2024. And for me, this look at the actor’s life and career more than lives up to the hype. Many highlights have already earned some social-media chatter––most notably young Al’s penis trauma (!), a near-death experience after a recent bout with Covid, and the reasons behind his decision to do Adam Sandler’s Jack and Jill.

One of Adam Sandler's most panned films is getting a free streaming home. While most critics have advised against watching the movie, fans of the funnyman will be able to judge its quality for themselves without paying a dime.

On Jan. 1, Sandler's Jack and Jill will be made available to watch on the free streaming platform Tubi. Directed by Dennis Dugan with a story by Ben Zook, the film was co-written by Sandler alongside Steve Koren. The comedy movie featured Sandler starring in dual roles as Jack and Jill, twin siblings spending time with one another during the holidays. It was released in theaters on Nov. 11, 2011, and in terms of its finances, the movie was a modest success, as it grossed nearly $150 million, but with a fairly high budget of nearly $80 million.

In Dennis Dugan's widely maligned 2011 comedy film "Jack and Jill," Adam Sandler played Jack, an advertising executive who was desperate to close a valuable account with Dunkin' Donuts. Jack million-dollar idea for the campaign is to secure the services of Al Pacino, as his name sorta-rhymes with the bakery's new coffee product, the Dunkaccino. Pacino plays himself in "Jack and Jill," and Jack repeatedly tries to get the actor's attention in public, as to make an impromptu ad pitch. Jack only becomes successful after Pacino expresses romantic interest in his twin sister Jill (also Sandler). 

Audiences are then "treated" to the complete version of Jack's Dunkin' Donuts commercial, and it has become the stuff of cinematic infamy. Pacino raps awkwardly about the Dunkaccino, making references to his own filmography. Even comedy legends have bad movies, and now one of Adam Sandler's worst is available on a free streaming service. The king of funny voices and weird bits doesn't always succeed and his attempt at The Nutty Professor failed pretty spectacularly. Now available on Vizio's streaming platform, WatchFree+, if you have a Vizio device, you can watch the 2011 film Jack and Jill this month. In the holiday film, Sandler plays a brother and a sister who shouldn't ever see each other and yet are forced together for Thanksgiving.

In a new interview with The BBC on his autobiography ‘Sonny Boy,’ the 84-year-old veteran actor revealed that he has found other ways to interact with his baby son now that they don’t live together.

“He does text me from time to time,” Pacino said, referring to his last born child, Roman.

“You know, I have this little person. Everything he does is interesting to me,” Pacino revealed. “So we talk. I play the harmonica with him and we have made this kind of contact. So it’s fun.

The 84-year-old actor shared in his new memoir, “Sonny Boy,” that he had a corrupt account and lost millions of dollars. That account eventually went to prison for their crimes.

“In this business, when you make $10 million dollars for a film, it’s not $10 million. Because after the lawyers, and the agents, and the publicist, and the government, it’s not $10 million, it’s four and half in your pocket,” he wrote. “But you’re living above that because you’re high on the hog.

Al Pacino has opened up about having to make drastic career changes at one point in his life after losing all his money in a Ponzi scheme.

The veteran actor shared in his recently published memoir Sonny Boy that he “had $50 million, and then I had nothing” due to a corrupt accountant, who eventually served time in prison for the scheme. Pacino said in 2011, he started “to get warnings that my accountant at the time, a guy who had lots of celebrity clients, was not to be trusted.”

Following the scheme, the Oscar-winning actor said he “was broke” after overspending and the accountant’s mismanaging of his finances.

The Al Dunkaccino rap has lived rent free in many a cinephile’s minds since the infamously maligned film came out in 2011. Now, Pacino is claiming that he only took on the role because he lost all of his finances as part of Ponzi scheme.

“I was broke. I had $50 million, and then I had nothing,” Pacino wrote in his memoir “Sonny Boy,” citing that he started “to get warnings that my accountant at the time, a guy who had lots of celebrity clients, was not to be trusted” circa 2011.

Writer-director Samuel Van Grinsven says that his new film “Went Up the Hill” was inspired by a single image of two people in a room, a coffin between them, both equally mourning the person inside, but knowing next to nothing about one another.

His film, which debuts this week at the Toronto International Film Festival, sees a young man, Jack (Dacre Montgomery), travel to a remote part of New Zealand to attend the funeral of his estranged mother.
