A picture of Laura Vandervoort from this series was used to make fake ID passports as part of an international identity-theft ring. She was immediately recognized by an FBI agent who happens to be a fan of Smallville (2001) wherein she portrayed Kara Zor-El (Supergirl).
The show was originally going to be set in Los Angeles just as the original mini series had been in 1983. This was changed to New York when the production was moved to Vancouver, British Columbia for tax reasons.
At times, it becomes clear that the Mothership set was actually a huge green screen set, with motion-controlled CGI sets and very few real world props. The giveaways are the shadows and reflections aren't always realistic, even though the motion tracking syncs, very sharp "cutout" outlines around the cast, and towards the end of season 2, the cast have a definite green glow where the green screen reflected onto the cast skin, when the setting is somewhere dark with no green lighting.
