Featured review
Such stories of technical quality are a dime a dozen. Yeah, you can entertain people by showing them glamour, corruption, greed and violence while adding to the mixture grains of humor. And yes, Castle is already based on this formula. However, the better episodes of this series are those that are fortified with actual meaning touching on the psyche of killers, victims, and most importantly our writer-detective duo.
Pretty Dead has little to offer on that stronger front. It's just an execution of the classical Agatha Christie structure. Stereotypes galore and we don't really need to care who killed who as everyone is equally stereotypical.
But we have Mr. Baron and his wife! Now, that adds some originality to the mixture. Remember, this is pre-presidency Trump. And naturally, pre-MeToo as well. A rich guy traditionally organizing a beauty pegant and drinking from the very source. Did they call him "Mr. Baron" because at the time his son Barron was out as the latest heir? I think so.
Wheter or not Mr. Baron has a crucial role in the story, I think he was the highlight as a character study, especially looking back to 2011 from today.
And Teri Polo is always a cool addition to any cast.
