Sexual themes include sexual dissatisfaction, inability to perform for a variety of reasons, societal disapproval of various relationships, especially homosexual relations male and female, infidelity, teen sex, birth control, difficulty in conceiving a child, and more.

Uses of 'F*', 'Shit' as well as sexual slang. However, while profanity is used, it is often infrequent, and there are episodes without vulgar language at all.

Several of the main characters are smokers. In many episodes, smoking is shown frequently. Alcohol is seen regularly, and characters are shown falling-down drunk on multiple occasions. Alcohol is depicted as frequently leading to unfortunate choices. Marijuana is used several times in the fourth season.
