New images from the set of ‘The Conjuring Last Rites’ just leaked, and they’re giving us a peek into what’s coming for this much-loved horror series. The Conjuring universe has been chilling audiences since the first film dropped back in 2013, directed by James Wan. It follows the real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, as they tackle terrifying supernatural cases. This new chapter, the fourth main installment, has been in the works for a while, and these leaked photos are the first real glimpse we’ve had.

The images show a street scene outside what looks like an antique shop, packed with old furniture, a vintage globe, and even a small copper steam engine model. The shop window has ‘Antiques & Restoration’ written on it, hinting at a setting that could tie into the Warrens’ investigations.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Brener was asked how much further The Conjuring Universe can reasonably be expected to go in the future. "It's testing through the roof and we're only at the director's cut, the 10-week part of the movie where you're normally very, very scared about the status of your film," Brener said of the next film in the franchise, The Conjuring: Last Rites. "We’re very early in the process, have very preliminary visual effects, but it’s already through the roof. So while this is last of what we call phase one, we are hopeful that we can make more." The Conjuring: Last Rites is an upcoming supernatural horror movie. It is directed by Michael Chaves and stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. They return as Ed and Lorraine Warren, real-life paranormal investigators. This movie is a sequel to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) and the ninth film in The Conjuring Universe. James Wan and Peter Safran are producing the film once again.

During WB’s CinemaCon presentation this year new details regarding the movie have been revealed. Last Rites will follow the final case of the Warrens, making it the final film in the mainline franchise.

Before The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It was released in June 2021, director Michael Chaves spoke about the possibility of more films in the series. He mentioned in an interview that the ending of the last movie left room for new stories.

Deadline reports today that the official trailer for 28 Years Later is now officially the second most watched new horror movie trailer in history, behind only It: Chapter Two (2019)!

The outlet explains, “Not only was the 28 Years Later trailer the most watched horror trailer in 2024 at 60.2M global views [in the first 24 hours alone], but it’s also the second biggest trailer of all-time behind It Chapter Two (96M views, $91M opening).” Deadline also lets us know today, “Currently, the 28 Years Later trailer has racked up 146.1M global views.”

Exclusive: The 24-hour traffic for the 28 Years Later trailer was so massive, that in response, Sony is releasing the original 2002 Danny Boyle directed zombie movie, 28 Days Later on digital Dec. 18 for purchase and rental. This is all because of the rabid fan response. 28 Years Later is a follow-up to 28 Days Later.

Not only was the 28 Years Later trailer the most watched horror trailer in 2024 at 60.2M global views, but it’s also the second biggest trailer of all-time behind It Chapter Two. Currently, the 28 Years Later trailer has racked up 146.1M global views.

In addition, the viewership for 28 Years Later was higher than the first trailer drops of The Nun, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and Halloween, as well as from this year, Smile 2 and Nosferatu (26.4M views).

Duly note these figures come from WaveMetrix and do not include TikTok views. Why? Because a studio trailer buy on TikTok can erratically mushroom viewing stats. Back out TikTok, keeps the competitive social media measuring field equal.

The 28 horror franchise were originally released respectively by Searchlight Pictures and Fox Atomic labels at the former 20th Century Fox, the two films grossing a near combined $150M at the global box office. Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris starred in 28 Days Later, while Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner and Robert Carlye starred in the sequel, 28 Weeks Later.

Sony prevailed in winning the revamped franchise 28 Years Later with Boyle reteaming with scribe Alex Garland and star Murphy with Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Jack O’Connell joining. The budget for the new movies are in the range of $75 million. In addition to Boyle and Garland, producers on 28 Years include Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice, the former head of Fox Searchlight Pictures. “Cruel Intentions” is getting a new life in Prime Video’s TV series adaptation, which takes the twisted tale to collegiate Greek life.

Sarah Catherine Hook and Zac Burgess star as Caroline Merteuil and Lucien Belmont, respectively, step siblings who strike up a malicious deal for Lucien to seduce the VP’s daughter, Annie Grover (Savannah Lee Smith), who Caroline sees as her ticket to make her sorority untouchable amid backlash for a controversial hazing incident.

The photo shows chairs for Ed and Lorraine Warren, the infamous demonologists based on the real couple of the same name. Within The Conjuring Universe, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson have played them in all three main films, starting with the 2013 film, along with making appearances in a few others, such as Annabelle Comes Home.

The long-awaited movie adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) is now available to stream on Max, unleashing a stylish vampire outbreak without much in the way of story. It turns out that there was a much longer cut of the film that Dauberman ultimately trimmed down for a leaner runtime.

The filmmaker revealed in a recent interview with Den of Geek, “My first cut was about three hours. There’s a lot left out. My first draft of the script is 180-odd pages or something because you’re trying to include everything. And a lot of it has to do with a lot of the secondary characters and stuff that I spoke about. So it was sad to see that stuff go, but it’s like a necessary evil.”

There’s a batch of A24 horror movies that includes favorites like “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Midsommar” alongside new releases “MaXXXine” and “I Saw the TV Glow.”

The Conjuring film franchise is set to come to an end with the fourth installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which Warner Bros. has scheduled for a theatrical release on September 5, 2025 release. We had previously heard that this movie would be filming in the Atlanta, Georgia area, but apparently they’re doing some work across the pond as well, as we’ve also heard that filming was scheduled to take place in London, England from September 10th through October 10th this year. So it makes sense that the first two cast members to be announced, other than returning franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, are both English.
