I think peoples seem to not realize we are what, 20 something if not 30 movies (plus shows) into this franchise? It will never be the same magic as it was when it started.
By now we are "used" to Marvel. We are used to these CGI extravaganza and we have to deal with a world that is so expanded on every fronts (multiverse, so many heroes and their vilains/threats to the world). Its not only complicated to deal with all of that but also to find new stories for our heroes.
Personally i watched this new Marvel as it should be watched, turning my brain off, just having some fun for a pop corn entertainement CGI extravaganza.
I think sometimes peoples seem to forget that old Marvel were less than perfect. Some movies like Thor 2, Iron Man 2 and 3 and so on got their fair share of critics. Even movies like Thor 1 or Iron Man 1 wich were rather praise, watching them again today i feel they are a bit of a slow drag and not that action filled.
Now am i someone that is easily pleased when it comes to pop corn action? Sure. But if you want some cinema art you ain't gonna watch a Marvel Super Heroe movie...
I know this review may seem more of a "rant" toward the other reviewers than a review of the movie itself, but thats simply how i feel. I sat down this afternoon in good spirit knowing i was gonna watch that kind of movie and i had fun with it, even as a 40 years old man. (You gotta keep in mind they are primary directed at kids and teens).
Cool fights in the air taking full advantage of Sam's background as Falcon before he was Cap, a decent story with some conspiracy and high stakes, and not too much dumb humor that sadly plagued some more recent Marvels (looking at you especially, Thor Love and Thunder).
Sam himself may not be the most charismatic hero, but he does have some good lines about duty and doing what need to be done.
Overall i just enjoyed myself. A good 8 out of 10 and i am unapologic about it.

Did i enjoyed The Bondman? Yes i did. But i am gonna be blunt right away and point out the elephant in the room, the streaming service show concept.
Call me old school but shows "in my days" used to be 22 episodes (sometimes 13 for "half seasons") and run for about 40 minutes + commercials. Then some "premium shows" started to appear with bigger production values like Game of Thrones wich would ran only 10 episodes (but usually of 1h each).
When streaming services started to dip into shows, i feel they cut more and more. Remember Daredevil on Netflix? 13 solid episodes. Now you get 8 to 10 episodes of any shows if you are lucky.
So by the time i watched "the season final" of The Bondsman, i felt like i had watch basically 3 episodes and the main intrigue was just starting. 8 episodes on its own is way too short for a show, but being under 30 minutes each? Ouch. It work for sitcoms but this ain't one and everything in this show felt uber rushed and could had been developed more.
The concept been done before or close to it. Remember Wynnona Earp? She had to hunt demons to break a curse. They manage to still give us 12 (13 in Season 1) episodes per seasons. It was on TV tough.
There is a bit of a paradox cause normally i would had enjoyed more a show like The Bondsman if there was already 3-4 seasons out and i could watch the whole thing, but peoples have to watch as it come out if we want more. So we do. But i just felt "teased". It felt like watching a long movie.
There was not much mystery on demons escaping and everything happened way too fast unlike an episode of Supernatural or such where the main characters need to research on the thing they hunt.
So in a nutshell it was fun, Kevin Bacon was cool, some humor landed well, the gore and cursing was nice, but i fear this is another one that may just be 1 season or if we lucky it may get another and then be cancelled. Then its gonna feel like we havn't scratch the surface of the potential it had.
I miss the good old days of "fandoms" when you could get invested in shows for years and really deep dive into them with other fans on forums because there was lot of mythos and theories.
On an end note, for fellow viewers from Quebec who watch in french, i personally didn't liked much the translation/dubbing tough. Bacon was fine but the other characters really felt like they forced a fake Quebec Accent. Especially Kitty and Lucky. Using Quebec curses in dubbed tracks was done in The Boys and it sounded great, i am not against it, but here something felt a bit off with some of the voices. That said you can always watch it in original english language or with the France dubbing.

I first got interested in this show because i kept seeing youtube shorts about it and some of these looked pretty badass. Then my cousin recommanded it to me as he said he binge watch it and couldn't stop cause he liked it so much. So i knew i had to watch it.
We are about 10 years after the last season aired, and by now Anthony Starr proved how a star (pun totally intended) he could be with The Boys as Homelander. It actually took me a little while to get used to Sheriff Hood but i did after a few episodes.
Reviewing 4 seasons in 1 review and not spoiling anything is not easy but ill try my best. Overall i enjoyed the show, its a lot of fun. But you got to suspend your disbeliefs a lot because some situations are absurd.
Even if you buy into the concept that this ex-con assume the identity of the Sheriff, there is too much he goes away with for real life even for a policeman.
I personally enjoyed season 1 and 2 the best, as i felt by season 3 it kinda was hunting for ideas. Usually the seasons had 2 stories running side by side, some better than other. But its really season 4 that i felt was a bit odd.
Again not gonna spoil anything but you kinda have the feeling they jumped 3 seasons ahead while at the same time they were kinda running out of idea and had to end it by Season 4. Some new characters felt underdeveloped and could had been expended upon way more, while other characters i felt stuck around too long and the show kinda painted itself in a corner and came with a conclusion for them that could had been improved.
With all that said, even tough the show won't make my top 10 favorite shows of all time, it was a pretty good one and it deserve a solid 8 in my opinion, if you can suspend your disbeliefs and don't mind gratuitous nudity and over the top violence.
