👩🏻⚕️ Career Pivot Turns Melissa’s Long-Term Job Search Around 👩🏻⚕️ When Melissa approached our Eckerd Connects’ Denver Workforce Development team, she had been laid off three times from different marketing positions, was running out of unemployment benefits, and knew something had to change. 💚💙 Learning that healthcare is an in-demand industry, Melissa decided to become a Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist. But she needed financial assistance to pay for the training. 🌟 Our team helped her navigate the system as a dislocated worker to receive the funding she needed. Then, this determined client immediately went to work, never missing a workshop with her Coding Education provider. 📄 Melissa updated her resume and did everything asked of her, working at record speed. As we worked together, we found that things did not always go smoothly with her training provider, requiring constant vigilance to ensure that Melissa had the materials she needed. 💊 As she neared completion, Melissa learned that all graduates would be considered apprentices for a full year before earning the title of Certified Coder—and that the training facility would not help with job placement. 🖋 Undeterred, Melissa began the application process. With a reference from our team, she was able to secure an apprentice position and begins her new career this month. 🎉 Congratulations, Melissa!
