On March 14th, hundreds of Beazer employees took part in the first-ever “National Day of Service,” volunteering at sixteen Fisher Houses. Their dedication directly supports military and veteran families. The following day, over 350 Beazer participants ran, cheered, and showed their support in the Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Race, raising over $3 million to support military and veteran families through Fisher House. Beazer Homes has raised more than $8 million to ensure military and veteran families can focus on their medical journeys instead of expensive lodging costs because they know a family's love is good medicine. On December 27, 2011, while serving in Afghanistan, Army Capt. Luis Avila’s vehicle was struck by an explosive, tragically taking the lives of three soldiers and severely wounding three others. Luis himself suffered devastating injuries. Through every critical moment of his recovery, his wife Claudia never left his side. She stayed at multiple Fisher Houses, which provided her with a place to stay near him at every stage of his medical journey. Their children were also able to reunite with them, thanks to our Hero Miles program that covers travel costs for military families using donated airline miles. “Fisher House gave us more than a place to stay—it gave us a family, a community, and the comfort of knowing we weren’t alone,” Claudia shared. In 2020, Army officers, Josh and McKenna Wells found themselves facing an unexpected challenge when their twins, Elliott and Emilia, were born more than two months premature. Just months after their birth and amidst the early days of the COVID pandemic, they stayed at the Alaska Fisher House, finding comfort in the home-like atmosphere during a stressful time. Known for their meticulous planning, they had prepared for their pregnancy in detail, but nothing could prepare them for the early arrival of their babies. McKenna flew 500 miles from Fairbanks to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson with Josh driving behind her, and soon after, Elliott and Emilia were born. While their time in the hospital was uncertain, the family found solace in the nearby Fisher House, just steps away from their babies. It gave them a sense of normalcy, with a kitchen and laundry—something a hotel couldn’t provide. “It felt like home. The beauty of Fisher Houses is that they provide not only a place to stay but also a means for the caregiver to receive support. For more than a year, Ericka Hewitt stayed at Fisher Houses, including the one at the Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center. Her first stay began in May 2023, when her son Skyler was in a motorcycle accident. “I'm good at taking care of Skyler, but I'm not really great about taking care of myself.
