Activities and Societies: Went to the AA club in Georgetown when it was cool, networked with people who ran government organizations, hung out at Embassy parties, studied at the Lincoln memorial, and knew a lot of foreigners. Worked at the Omni Georgetown Hotel and in the federal government as a temp. Saw Dizzy play. Ran on the Mall and into Arlington. Moved to Adams Morgan. Lived with a crazy old lady in Dupont Circle. Hung out with my cousins at their house. Did too many internships without pay. Had a French roommate.
Asked people what they did, how to succeed in DC, and listened to the answers. It always included getting a high-ticket advanced degree. Not likely. Tried to become a Burson person, CIA agent, History professor, NYT reporter, work in Africa, become a diplomat, or get promoted from front desk to rooms division and transferred to France. Tried to become a Burson person, CIA agent, History professor, NYT reporter, work in Africa, become a diplomat, or get promoted from front desk to rooms division and transferred to France. Lived in Paris. Went to the Soviet Union. Dated a United Colors of Benetton model. Met my first wife. Beat out a Cuban guy better looking and more successful than me who also worked at OPIC. I was a temp. My best friend ran the White House Tour so got a private one. Had a lot of anxiety so it was hard to sit and study. Found the library at some point. Never went back. Yes. After two years I moved back to Chi. If I was good at taking entry exams I'd be an attorney and hate my life. Or perhaps an economist. That was the other big idea. My friend suggested I be an expert. That's a popular career path in DC. That didn't work out either. Life is Good!
