University of California is under fire from the Federal Government: Here's how UC is responding
LOS ANGELES, BERKELEY, SANTA BARBARA — April 3, 2025 — Several University of California campuses, including UCLA and UC Berkeley, are under new federal investigations over allegations of discriminatory admissions decisions, according to the UC Office of the President.
According to UC Senior Vice President Meredith Turner, the university maintains compliance with Proposition 209, which prohibits public institutions in California from considering race or ethnicity in admissions, she wrote in an open letter.
At the same time, federal probes into antisemitism continue at multiple UC campuses. UC officials emphasized ongoing efforts to combat hate and ensure campus safety.
Meanwhile, UC Santa Barbara’s Dr. Emily Jacobs is featured in a new NIH-funded video spotlighting women’s health research. Her lab was the first to map the human brain during pregnancy — research made possible by federal support.
