It's been sixteen years since the legendary, Emmy and Tony-winning actress Beatrice "Bea" Arthur passed away. She was best known for her TV roles as liberal-minded Maude Findlely in the 1970s groundbreaking sitcom, Maude (CBS, 1972-1979), and Dorothy Zbornak in the 1980s trailblazing senior comedy The Golden Girls (NBC, 1985-1992). A heavy smoker, she died from lung cancer on April 25, 2009.

The tragic existence of iconic actor Carl Dean Switzer, best known as Alfalfa from the Our Gang/Little Rascalsclassic film shorts, was proof of that.
