Notre Dame Fighting Irish News: Nico Iamaleava in South Bend? Baseball split, more
By Oliver Vandervoort,
19 days agoThe Notre Dame Fighting Irish wrap up their spring practice on Saturday afternoon at the Blue and Gold Game. Meanwhile, there’s been some talk about the possibility of adding former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava through the spring portal when it opens on Monday.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish linked to Nico Iamaleava
When the talk about a split between the Tennessee Vols and their quaraterback first surfaced, it took no time at all for JD Pickell to claim that Notre Dame might be a good fit . We can argue over the next few weeks about whether that’s really the case, the fact of the matter is that people expect the Irish to kick the tires.
That despite the fact that they have three quarterbacks who spent the entire spring thinking they were vying for the starting QB spot. On Saturday morning, it was announced Iamaleava will be a free agent come Monday. There’s gonna be drama until he finds his next school.
Baseball splits a double header
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team looked like it was in line to sweep a double header against Boston College on Friday night, but the bullpen couldn’t pull off the deal. After winning the first game 2-0, the Blue and Gold erupted for 5 runs in the first inning.
However, after taking the 5-0 lead, they didn’t score another run and in the 7th inning they allowed the Golden Eagles to tie and a run in the 8th gave BC a win. It’s the kind of loss that in the long run, doesn’t mean a ton, the Irish are 4-13 in the ACC instead of 5-12. But it also shows the team continues to simply not be that good.
The Blue and Gold Game
Notre Dame football will wrap up their spring practice session on Saturday afternoon with a scrimmage that will feature the offense versus the defense. In the past, Marcus Freeman and an assistant have drafted teams, but they’ve said there aren’t enough healthy players to do that this year.
The game kicks off at 2PM and can be seen exclusively on Peacock . The big thing to watch of course, will be how the quarterbacks play. But also, how the wide receivers mesh will be important for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish moving forward.
