A Text, an Abandoned Car, and a Missing Man: Louisiana Man Vanishes After Trip

2025-03-20

OPELOUSAS, LA – The disappearance of Wilfred Kinnerson III remains a chilling mystery that has left his family desperate for answers. What began as a routine trip from Louisiana to Dallas to Los Angeles in early October 2021 has become a case with no apparent explanation.

According to the Opelousas and Bastrop Police Departments, on October 4, 2021, at 11:45 p.m., 36-year-old Wilfred texted his 16-year-old daughter, Kaliyah Kinnerson, informing her that he was on his way home to Opelousas from Bastrop, Louisiana, after driving from Los Angeles. That was the last anyone heard from him. Four days later, on October 8, 2021, his silver 2016 Cadillac CT6 was found abandoned in the 600 block of North Market Street in Opelousas, Louisiana. The car was left just down the street from a restaurant his father owned, yet Wilfred was nowhere to be found. As the days passed, speculation regarding Wilfred's fate intensified.

Bastrop and Opelousas authorities reported that in 2022, reports circulated that a body had been discovered in Louisiana, leading many to believe it could belong to Wilfred. Adding to the mystery, authorities report that his sister received an anonymous phone call the week before Christmas in 2021. The caller claimed that she could find her brother’s body on Harris Road in Collinston, Louisiana, a small town near Bastrop, investigators reported. Soon after, police did locate a body in that exact location. His family submitted DNA to an LSU crime lab, hoping for confirmation, but no official link to Wilfred has ever been made public. There is no obituary or any records indicating that the body belonged to him, and he remains listed as a missing person.

When he disappeared, Wilfred Kinnerson was 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 170 pounds. His family is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that could lead to answers.

If you have any information about his disappearance, please contact the Opelousas Police Department at 337-948-2500, [email protected], or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 337-948-TIPS.
